For many of us obtaining a University education is genuinely important. It guarantees us a better future, with a high paying job doing what we love to do most. But sometimes we must step out of our little bubble of dreams and expectations and step into reality. Over the course of the years many have questioned the importance of obtaining a higher education. Is it worth spending thousands of dollars a year? Or in many cases taking out student loans, worth over thousands of dollars for a degree that doesn’t always assure you’ll have the job you’ve always wanted?
Writers, Brittany Bronson and Megan McArdle discuss their thoughts over university education and the different dilemmas that have come up in the past years. In “Long Odds in the Game of Life” Bronson focuses on the importance of her students demand on expanding their education. She also mentions underemployment, how to avoid it and reasons why students might undergo through this …show more content…

Bronson starts of by questioning why students decided to pursue a university education and what they expect to gain from it. Not many students have clear vision of what they want to do after college, just like they seem to have no aspiration on the type of opportunities they hope will be open once they have a degree. She argues that students are not realistic enough, and cites Richard Vedder, director of the Center for College Affordability and Productivity, “There are too many college graduates for the kinds of jobs they expect to hold.” She also mentions undergraduates falling into the underemployment category and what they can do to avoid this. Although Bronson addresses important points, she lacks the availability of stepping out more and putting herself in other student’s shoes and ask herself why students really decide to stay in one place instead of moving somewhere else where they can have bigger
