The Fourteenth Goldfish by Jennifer Holm tells a tale about a young teenage girl and her seventy-six-year-old grandfather who found a formula to turn him into a thirteen-year-old teenage boy. Their names, Ellie and Melvin are about the same age. Attempting to get the T. Melvinus, along with Ellie’s friend Raj, can they all find and decide if humans should use the T. Melvins, or destroy it. I would recommend this book written because the book sparks my interest in the biological field. Both children and adults including scientists would like it because it combines terms that scientists use, “children's literature”, along with “adult’s literature.” Can the group figure it out? Maybe the settings have something to do with it.

Loneliness is a revolving topic throughout the book. Many characters are impacted by it and this changes the outcome of the book. In Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, he develops the concept of loneliness through Candy's disability, Crooks unable to fit in, and Curley's wife in order to demonstrate that loneliness impacts people by causing anger and depression.

One thing that can change a man is meeting another, as this gives him the opportunity of having a friend and not being alone. A person who is lonely will always search for a friendship. In Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, the characters Crooks, Lennie, and Curley’s wife all exemplify loneliness and isolation.They all search for a bond in their own way.

Loneliness, it's a strange thing to think about since it isn't a problem these days, but during the Great Depression and times around this loneliness was not rare at all. This is why loneliness was a significant theme in the book “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck. The most lonely characters in the story by far were Crooks (The dark man that works on the ranch), and Candy (the old one handed man that operates on the ranch). These two characters were not described directly as lonely, but it grew more noticeable the further into the story.

Loneliness is one of many central themes in John Steinbeck’s classic novella, Of Mice and Men. Throughout the story many characters sought after the company and attention of others. Each character has a certain barrier that keeps them isolated from the outside world. Three characters who portray this loneliness throughout the novella are Crooks, Curly’s wife, and Candy. Each having a different wall between them and society.

The story of Mice and Men, centers around these feelings as it describes the experiences of two migrant workers, George and Lennie. Of Mice and Men tells the story of two friends, George and Lennie, who find themselves on a ranch in pursuit of their dreams. Unfortunately for them, circumstances beyond their control cost Lennie and George their dream and much more. In Of Mice and Men, the author John Steinbeck portrays that loneliness leads to bitterness though the characters Carlson, Curley's wife, and Crooks.

In the novel Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck looks at the theme of loneliness as it affects many characters on the ranch. Crooks, Curley's wife, and Candy are the most excluded characters on the ranch, because they all have dreams that they will not be able to live out and they all are at loss when it came to companionship. Crooks is lonely because he is the only black man on the ranch. Since this book is set during the Depression, Jim Crow laws are still in effect, whites and blacks had separate facilities for socializing and living. Crooks comments that he can't live in the bunkhouse, and cant even play cards in there.

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is book of many themes; one that is very prominent is loneliness. Loneliness is common in many people's lives and that is also true for the lives of the characters of the book. Almost all characters in the book are lonely in one way or the other.
