“The Goldfish” by Etgar Keret is a fiction story, that is also a parable. The Goldfish is a story that reads into the tendencies of the human race. This short story consists of a kid; Yoni, asking what people would do if they were offered three wishes. Yoni then came upon a man named Sergei. Sergei owned a magical pet goldfish that he thought Yoni would steal. He later kills Yoni and uses his last wish to bring Yoni back to life, after debating it for a while. This story shows how the horror of loneliness is greater than most expect. With these facts, the theme of the story is going to be loneliness. Loneliness is a great fear for plethora of people and the goldfish illuminates. Throughout the story, Sergei shows signs of being antisocial.
