Anne Hathaway once said, “Loneliness is my least favorite thing about life. The thing I’m most worried about is just being alone without anybody to care for or someone to care for me.” The central theme in the novel Of Mice and Men, written during the Great Depression by John Steinbeck, is loneliness. In this essay I will talk about how the characters George, Lennie, and Crooks were impacted by loneliness. Although George would be able to make it on his own, George relies on Lennie’s friendship as a companion.
