In the novel “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck it has many lessons and morals throughout the story. Two men, one named George and the other named Lennie are close as can be, but when Lennie makes the mistake of touching a young woman’s dress. They then leave the town Weed and go to Salinas to work at a ranch. They meet some of the other workers but problems start to form when Lennie meets Curley’s wife. Steinbeck uses this novel to show us how loneliness has a negative outcome. For example, someone may isolate themselves for so long that when company does happen to appear they are not very happy about it. Old Candy boy was lonely when the guys shot his dog. The boss's son’s wife was pretty lonely in the whole book until her end.
In Mice and Men there is many people that are driven to find companionship due to the loneliness of California ranch. For example, George and Lennie. They definitely have a love/hate relationship with each other. George always gets mad at Lennie for forgetting about things and for always messing up but he never wants Lennie to leave. Even though Lennie forgets things a lot and may make George mad sometimes,George always stands up for him and helps him get a job.
Thesis: In a time of savagery and loss Crooks, Curley’s Wife and Candy cope with loneliness by dehumanizing others which shows that loneliness ultimately corrupts the whole community. Crooks: Loneliness causes Crooks to dehumanize people that are less powerful than him. “I ain't wanted in the bunkhouse, and you ain't wanted in my room”(68). When Lennie walks into Crooks room, Crooks finally feels more powerful than another individual and takes advantage of the rare opportunity.
