For many years, people from all across the globe have entered into America. Referred to as the “Melting Pot”, the United States consists of various classes, cultures, and ethnicities. Consequently, some people think that immigrants hurt our economy by taking away the jobs of the American born and raised; despite the fact that immigrants are here for a better life and to let our economy grow. Many immigrants have completely changed the world. From science to fashion to entertainment, immigrants have contributed greatly to America. Liz Claiborne took a great effect in the fashion industry. Born as Anne Elizabeth Jane Claiborne in Brussels Belgium, Claiborne always had a love for art/fashion. Her and her family moved to New Orleans in 1939, but Claiborne moved back to Europe to study art. After winning the Harper’s Bazaar design contest, the eager 19-year-old traveled to New York to pursue her fashion career. Furthermore, Liz Claiborne Inc. reached $5 billion in sales in the year 2006. She defined the male dominated ranks of fashion and became the first woman (that founded a company to be among the Fortune 500.
