My life was almost like an endless routine that went on continuously with no end. Sure, there were some highlights of my life but I guess I lived a “normal life”. Change was something I had never truly experienced before high school. One night at the local bowling alley there was a dance for the high school students. I went with some my friends and we were just chilling at a table. It was typical high school dance, girls on one side and guys on the other side. Everyone was taking their pictures and soon I was asked to take picture a with my older friend, Alex. We took the picture of each of us holding dollar bills in our hands. One of my friends later told me I looked fat in the picture. I looked at repeatedly in denial because I couldn’t believe what he had said. I kept making up excuses of why I admittedly, looked a bit over weigh. Later, that week a couple of my friends could tell I was feeling down. I simply played it off as stress caused from school which what any sissy would do. I came to the realization that I was overweight. I started researching ways to lose weight and found a bunch of ways to lose weight. The problem was I didn’t know how to lose weight to I just decided to eat three times a day with no snacks. It had been about 3 weeks since I started trying to lose weight and I was at the gym playing basketball. My friend, Eric said “ You look skinnier, have you lost weight?” This made me feel like I had accomplished something. Summer rolled around and I
I was still finding out who I was then, even now I’m not done changing, but I’m not who I once was, I’m not sad all of the time, I have a very small group of friends and I have changed for the better. My high school experience has been very interesting so far. Having few friends in life leads you to finding an alternative; I read of adventures and friendships, I learned the meaning of love and what it means to care about someone, I put myself in the shoes of those I read about. It’s helped me to become independent and more
My life changed dramatically when I hit my freshman year of college, and many things happened to me that I could never have foreseen. I have made horrible choices while in college, not just simple things that could be dealt with in a day or a week, rather it is going to affect me later in life. I was on the college
I’d been obese for years. At an annual check up my doctor told my mother “Your son weighs … 165 pounds.” Compared to my last visit I was 150 pounds. The yearly check-ups showed that I didn’t get where I wanted to be. My mother reassured me that we’ll lose the excess; it didn’t happen. The next year, 165 turned into 190, then 220. Finally reaching a maximum of 250 pounds. I had to learn to change my habits to fight my obesity.
Going to a high school in Atlanta, I had what most people would consider a typical life. I had a Mother and Father who loved each other very much, a sister who annoyed everyone when she was home, a dog as cute as could be, and a one story house, where escaping my family was near impossible. I loved playing sports, especially baseball. Academics were never my strong suit in high school, but I always got my work done. Looking back now, one could say I was an average guy living an average life.
1) First, you have to mentally psych yourself to lose weight. You have to realize that this is NOT going to be an easy task by any means. In fact, for some, this may be the hardest thing you will ever do. You have to think about why YOU feel you are overweight. Do you chalk it up to "bad genes"? Does the allure of an "all-you-can-eat buffet" get you excited? Then, you have to think about what you will GAIN by losing weight - and this is different for everyone. It could be that you 've always had a goal to run a marathon, and losing weight will help you to accomplish that goal. It could be that you want to look great in that bikini, or that wedding dress. Whatever your goal is, make it personal. Don 't make it about what society or the media says - otherwise, trust me, you will give up VERY quickly. Lastly, you need to mentally commit yourself to doing whatever it takes now, as well as months and years down the road, to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
My life was not much different from the average person’s growing up. I had a mother, father, and two brothers. We had a dog. We went on family vacations. My brothers and I played sports together. I don’t really have much to complain about. It was all, for the most part, very normal.
My life wasn’t bad, but it was suddenly very different than what it had been. I was certainly still fortunate in many ways. We remained living in a nice home, and all my basic needs were met. However, I was faced with instant and dramatic changes and had to adapt and accommodate my new situation.
My life just like everyone else on this crazy rollercoaster has been filled with lots of ups, lots of downs, and quite a few unexpected corkscrews. For me those downs have always felt more like the rollercoaster was flying off the rails and was never going to go back. Of course, given time things might not return to how they were but they will return to a constant and steady state. Some things will help speed up the process and other things are going to make it worse or slow it down. It’s all about finding new things that make you want to hop back in line and take another go around the track. Going to college has really changed how everything in my world works in a way for the better. The terror of showing up on the first day and knowing that your life is in your hands for the first time ever is terrifying, but at the same time it’s also the most exhilarating feeling. Everyday has been a new adventure and each time I think about what’s going to happen
It all started with my nose. The flat bridge was constantly squished and prodded by my little fingers when I stood in front of the mirror. My nose- short and wide- was just the first physical trait of mine that I could differentiate from my peers. In every yearbook that showcased our school’s students, I always stuck out like a sore thumb. Physical features such as this were the only thing I could compare between me and my friends, who were all undeniably white in our Minnesotan town. They had narrow noses with high arches that crinkled when they smiled, which was the image of perfection for a flat-nosed outsider like me. To a child growing into the period of life where everything revolves around outward appearances, the worst possibility was being an outlier in a sea of people complying to the same standard.
To say that I have lived a mild and boring life is an understatement. There have not been many, what I would call, substantial, life-changing moments that I have gone through in my 44 years that I am sure several others have not experienced as well. From meeting my wife to the birth of my son, everyone can connect to a lot of the same experiences in life. When I reflect on my life thus far, the one that truly stands out is one that I am sure many others in this class have unfortunately had to experience as well. However, the divorce of my parents when I was young not only changed my life as far as where I am today, it also did so by bringing me even closer to the two people that made me who I am.
It is no secret that in today’s world most people are unhappy with their physical appearance. Women, particularly, struggle with their perception of overweight, unproportioned bodies. Meanwhile, icons such as Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Eva Longoria, and Kim Kardashian flaunt bodies of perfection that every woman dreams of having. Women become obsessed and determined to put themselves through tough weight loss regime to achieve the hot, sexy, beach body look of these celebrities. That is not necessarily a negative because weight loss provides empowering and rewarding outcomes for people’s lives, but there are several different options that people have when it comes to losing weight. For example, liposuction or eating healthy and exercising. It should be no surprise that liposuction is becoming more and more of an acceptable way to lose the extra pounds, but it’s not the best alternative to diet and exercise. When debating on either getting costly liposuction or committing to a rigorous healthy eating and exercise routine, it becomes evident that healthy eating and exercise boast far more benefits; those desiring a Jennifer Lopez beach body should stick to dieting and exercise and should avoid going under the knife to obtain the best overall results.
One summer in my birth home in England, my birth mother had passed out on the floor in the morning after my father left for work. My brother and I heard a loud scream and came into the room, seeing that she has passed out. In our right minds, we thought it was going to be moderate, but soon later finding out she died from damage in her brain, causing her left side of the body not to work and to barely eat and support her other side. Her funeral was a warning of future events that started going ridiculously wrong after and I knew there was going to be a major turning point in my life, with a tone and cause us to leave and figure out problems on our journey. Due to my mother's death, an increasing amount of work was to be done to protect our future.
Life before graduation was a struggle for me. I lived in a home that seemed to bring me nothing but pain and anger. I watched someone close to me die little by little every day. I did not live a normal childhood because I was a
Staying healthy and eating right is a lifestyle that many people should consider. A juicy hamburger from McDonalds dripping with special sauce topped with cheese is not exactly considered a healthy meal. Our society today is busy and on the go at all times. It is so much easier to stop and get fast food and then continue on. However, we should stop and think; is it really worth it to not eat right and exercise?
How does healthy eating affect your life? Many people really pay attention to the food they put in their bodies, until we get sick and need medical attention. I know that many of us love to eat fast food, but it catches up with us in the long run. While eating healthy would stop you from getting sick, and lower the cost of health care, healthy eating can enrich your body and prevent you from getting high doctor bills.
