Literature, the dictionary defines it being the art of written works that is simultaneously designed to entertain, educate and instruct its audience; writers, using their skill of telling stories, use literature in an attempt to transfer their ideas from paper to the reader; for some, this task means bringing their story to a different place and time that is entirely separate from what the could be perceive as ordinary, on order to serve the writer’s intent. With this, the impossible, becomes the probable, and the worst fear imagined becomes the breathed reality; with no separation between the truth, and fiction. The word “literature” in itself cannot be accurately defined, and by attempting to do so, it limits the word not only in its

I currently work at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center. “The Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center, located in Richmond, Virginia, is a 399-bed facility offering primary, secondary, and tertiary health care in medicine, surgery, neurology, rehabilitation medicine, intermediate care, acute and sustaining spinal cord injury, home care, and palliative care” (Hunter Holmes McGuire VA, 2015). At this facility it is very important that they prepare and manage a budget, so that they can strategize for the future, creating goals and plans. It also creates accountability, since they are spending tax payer’s money.

Short story fiction is a story that is shorter than a novel, has a few characters, and is about an imaginary event or person. Because short fiction is short the writer must capture and hold the reader’s attention within the first paragraph, which requires a mastery of literary technique. Some of the most helpful tools to use in literature are literary devices. Literary devices are any element, subject, or concept that is present through an entire body of literature. If these devices didn 't exist, literature would be very hard to understand. They define the nature of a story, and they bring the text to life. Literary devices enhance the meaning of literature by establishing the theme, mood, and plot. Devices, such as situational irony, symbolism, and setting, are all helpful when reading short stories.

In literature, there are genres. Two main genres are fiction and nonfiction. Fiction is a work of art that is not real or based on the facts. “‘Fiction’ refers to literature created from the imagination” (“What is the difference…?”). It can explain a story in a different point of view, maybe in a way that is out of the norm. Fiction is basically just nonfiction in an exaggerated way. Though fiction may not be based on the facts, it can still resemblance a sense of real life events. “Fiction may base on stories on actual historical events. Although fictitious characters are presented in a fictitious setting in stories and novels, yet they may have some resemblance with real life events and characters” (“Fiction”). A common subject represented in the non-fiction genre will be social studies. Just as in science, the content of social studies evolves as changes in the world result in new configurations of countries and people (Galda, Cullinan, & Sipe, 2016). The reason why social studies is part of non-fiction, is because social studies is based on true events and non-fiction is based on true facts and events. Many nonfiction books cover such topics as geography and maps, life in the past, and the social structures and customs of various cultures, past and present (Galda, Cullinan, & Sipe, 2016). Everyone's dreaming of living in a perfect society. Who would not want? A society in which each and everyone has reach the epitome and perfection of life; a society that is able to construct a social system based on reason, justice, and the unity - a society that everybody is dreaming off. It is the purpose of this paper to examine and analyze the condition of a certain society who "achieved" the Utopian society and briefly explore the effect and ethicality to the man, and a society in which it belongs. Literature is defined as written works published on a particular subject. Literature can also be viewed as witness, because it can be a source of proof based on the events it was written on. Literature as witness allows readers to get a deeper understanding of the issues that have happened based off of what the books are about. Those who read literary texts such as historical novels, memoirs and novels are witness to historical events. These texts can be viewed as witness because the events mentioned are based off of true life events. Some may argue historical fiction is not real and therefore could not be viewed as a reliable source. Next to being neo-slave narratives, Kindred and Beloved, as well as Who Fears Death, are examples of the genre of Speculative Fiction. This type of literature features supernatural and/or futuristic elements. Is serves as an umbrella term and includes science fiction, fantasy, literary fiction, supernatural fiction, horror, dystopia, utopia, (post-)apocalyptic and superhero elements, as well as their combinations (Jackson and Moody-Freeman, 127). Hence, “in Speculative Fiction the action of the story can take place in a culture that never existed, a world we know nothing of, or an earth that might have been or might be” (Shade, 2). In other words, speculative literature includes all texts that take place “in a universe slightly different from our own” (Wyatt, 1-2). Language is “not merely descriptive but also functions as a form of word building” (Burnett, 137), as neologisms can be both metaphorical and literal in this genre.

Every country has its story and literature reflects the most important events that happened during a determinate period, and also, how people, politics, religion and the society in general developed during those periods. As I see it, literature, just as all forms of art, is a giant chronological picture that shows all the shades of a society in all its aspects. In this case, English literature, from 1660 to 1830 specifically, shows a great transformation from the beginning of the Restoration to the end of the Romanticism.

A novel is long narrative written by a novelist that describes fictional characters and events, usually in the form of a sequential story. The later, an Italian word used to describe short stories, supplied the present generic English term in the 18th century. The first significant European novelist is Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quixote, the first part of which, the first part of which was published in 1605. The term novel refers back to the production of short stories that remained part of a European oral culture of storytelling in to the 19th century. Fairy tales, jokes, little funny stories designed to make a point in a conversation, the exemplum a priest would insert in a sermon belong in to this tradition.

1. The genre of "How Jack Went to Seek His Fortune" can be classified as a fairytale. This is because of the author's usage of the words "Once upon a time.." and the way the characters are incorporated into the story as Jack seeks his fortune. This story could also qualify as fiction because this excerpt from "How Jack Went to Seek His Fortune" is non-realistic due to its fairytale qualities.

The definition of literature has been discussed and argued over time and there is no precise answer to be given. Any reader or author can define literature as whatever they wish it to be defined as. This is more of an opinion of how one views certain pieces of work or writings and whether or not they feel that is actually literature or not. Literature is any type of creative writing such as fiction or poetry, for example. Literature is also any form of body of written works of language, which could be from the English era or even as far back as the Shakespearean or Elizabethan era. It is also work from a specific period or culture defining key elements or somehow relating to and/or expressing how it is exactly from that time. The

The short story is a concise form of narrative prose that is usually simpler and more direct compared to longer works of fiction such as novels. Therefore, because of their short length, short stories rely on many forms of literary devices to convey the idea of a uniform theme seen throughout the script. This theme is illustrated by using characteristics that are developed throughout the story such as, plot, setting and characters. The three main components are developed throughout the story in order to guide the reader to the underlying theme, which is necessary as a short story lacking a theme also lacks meaning or purpose.

Literature is an autonomous verbal art, independent from the context. A novel is “a fictitious prose narrative of considerable length and complexity,portraying characters and
