Being able to deliver a speech in front of an international community service organization, the Conroe noon Lions club is the most exciting thing that has occurred to me. This Nonprofit organization is the 2nd largest club in the United states that support several projects with eyesight, recycling, and also many project to the youth of the community. One their projects is what landed me their opportunity to speak in front of them, the drug awareness speech contest that would offer the winners scholarships to extend their education. It was last October where I entered my first scholarship contest. I was in the college and career center where we are informed about college opportunities. That day my counselor Mrs. Bernhard informed me over a …show more content…
The two other participants and I were greeted by all the members which many were of important positions like local doctors, lawyers and business owner. It was an honor to be able to speak in front of important people. The two other contestants and I were to draw at random to decide the order of the presentations. The time had arrived where those 10 minutes all the attention would be on my stance with the legalization of marijuana. As a I began speaking all I could think about was to make contact with almost 100 people in the room in order to make an impact. Those ten minutes of my life I have never felt such a greater feeling to be able to speak my opinion in front of so many people, I no longer felt nervous or afraid, I felt like a powerful woman. After all the speech were done I was announced 2nd place and winner of a 1000 scholarship. This was a very memorable moment to me because it was my first time winning a scholarship. After our awards we got to talk about ourselves in front of the. It was exciting to have so many kind successful strangers come up to me personally to congratulate and compliment my speech. I even was offered an interview with a local magazine, and all of the participants would be featured in the Conroe courier. I have been the president of my school’s Junior Civitian club for 2 years now and I was color guard caption for two years also. I have learned how to become a leader. I also went to Girl State where I learned how to become a better leader. Becoming a leader is challenging, especially in high school, when you want to do what everyone else is doing. I have learned that being a leader you should be fair and treat people as if they are your peers and not lower than you are. As a leader I am the first person their and the last person to leave. I also have made myself available to the people in Junior Civitan and the people on the color guard team. I also have an ambitious attitude, as should ever leader. I will always try to keep everyone cheerful
which I wasn’t expecting. So on the side of beginning my BSN program this week and figuring all this out, I am finalizing a speech to give today in front of about a thousand people. Here it goes for public speaking!
Hi Kerri Howell. You should consider looking into Roger Gaylord for Folsom City Council achievements and accomplishments before you try and knock him down. I've seen and hear many things Roger's done in the community, which is one of the many reasons he has my support. He’s always out helping others, volunteering and supporting several non-profits in the community. Take a peek at Ripples to Waves Facebook; you’ll see where he randomly paid for a stranger’s entire SMUD bill when she was in need. Your close mindedness doesn’t propel you in your endeavors for the county supervisor position; it shows you have a complete lack of leadership.
This is your VP of Membership, Deven Kimoto, and I just want to congratulate you all for making it through 5 months both into the 2016-2017 school year and with Key Club. Keep up the hard work!
Changing who you are right now into who you want to be in the future is hard to comprehend. Especially as a high school student, our careers may still be uncertain. It’s undeniable though, that a big part of who you want to be is shaped by being in FBLA. Just being here at the state conference is evidence of the impact. Hello Illinois FBLA! I’m Neha Arun, and I’m running to be your FBLA state secretary. What comes to your mind when I say FBLA? Is it the conferences or the competitive events? Do you ever think about the business aspect of FBLA? The Business Leader part of FBLA often gets lost in the acronym. However, becoming who you want to be in the future is shaped by your business skills. What you learn by forming business partnerships will help you throughout your life, no matter
Commencement speaker Lyndon B. Johnson, in “The Great Society”, unveils a widespread set of domestic programs in the United States that serve to eliminate poverty and racial injustice. Speaking to the nation's youth, Johnson uses his speech in order to place the responsibility of the nation’s future success upon the upcoming generations. He develops his purpose by upholding credibility through the use of historical figures, which promotes a sense of patriotism within the audience. By utilizing alliteration, Johnson draws attention to his important ideals, which works to motivate the youth to act upon his desires. Through the continuation of his speech, Johnson uses the parallel structure of anaphora to intensify his ideals, and ultimately challenge the nation’s youth to help build a “Great Society” that will propel the nation to success.
As many of you may know today is a day for rebellion, against the slums, the ghettos, the bloody heels of crying children and bad jobs, today we arise as a nation for freedom and equality to stand against segregation. Today we rebel against the aggressors, to make a stand, so that every man, of any race may stand, and coexist as equals. Almost one hundred years ago all of the African Americans made free by the emancipation proclamation. But yet today one hundred, One Hundred, years later we still have to use the colored bathroom, the colored bars, the colored water fountains, and sit on the back of the bus.
On Monday, January 18th we commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Annually, we pause to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King, Jr. It is also a time for our country to reflect on what his compelling message meant and still means to our country. He was a champion of racial justice and equality.
The Civil Rights Movement was a zealous and essential period in American History. The civil rights movement began in 1954 and was led by African Americans to outlaw racial discrimination against Blacks. One century after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, African Americans still observing segregation and various forms of oppression and “Jim Crow” laws. The nonviolent and civil disobedience protests were used by the civil rights activists to bring about change. Some significant leaders within the Black community were Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and W.E.B. Du Bois.
I stood there in anticipation, speech in hand, facing the crowd. Then, I ripped apart the speech, but I had no worries about the paper. After all, I had already memorized the whole speech. At that moment, my goal was to inspire people with my speech. I had never thought I would be able to stand there in the gaze of a giant audience.
When I was a kid, my super hero was Superman, I kind of admired him because I thought it would be cool to be able to fly and to have super-human strength, but the main reason why I liked Superman is because he helped people, no matter what.
