I’m from the small town of Lindale, and I can say that it’s no longer a small town. I’ve lived there all my life and it’s blossomed since Wal-Mart and Lowe’s came to our small town. Lindale is a great place to live because it’s where you can sit on the front porch with a cold glass of sweet tea while being surrounded by a true caring community and at the same time enjoy the true beauty of Lindale which has a unique charm. It’s crazy to think that the census population of Lindale in 2010 was 209, 714. http://www.lindaletexas.com/detailed-demographics
Lindale has a great location because it’s in the middle of I-20 which brings plenty of traffic from the larger metropolitan areas. I do believe that economic catalyst like the Restaurants, residential

Now, many of these larger businesses have kept their promise in being socially responsible by helping the local community. We were able to test this when that Tornado hit earlier this year. We also see many of these businesses supporting our school events and community members who are in dire need of assistance. Many of these business organizations donate hundreds to help the people of Lindale. This is not seen much with other communities but Lindale still has that family feel to it and keeps promoting a strong partnership between business leaders and community …show more content…
You can’t go an organized event without seeing major business owners because they keep a deep connection with the community. Lindale has grown exponentially but school sports/band is still the center of this community. New businesses understand this concept and are willing to support these kiddos because this passion contaminates anyone who will take a second to breathe in the spirit of Lindale. This is the reason why I’m part of the Band & Football booster Club. This allows me to be part of this great community but it also allows you to grow as a person.
The cost of living has increased just in the past ten years. It’s crazy because I purchased two little rent houses after graduation for $29,000 each and now you can’t buy a small rent house for under $75,000. This is great for me because my investment has grown in the past ten years but it’s hard for those who are just starting out. These main reason why the cost of living has increased in the City of Lindale is due to the growing community and need for improved transportation and schools to fulfill the
John Mackey, founder of Whole Foods once said "Business social responsibility should not be coerced; it is a voluntary decision that the entrepreneurial leadership of every company must make on its own." (Mackey, 2005) In today’s society it is increasingly common for businesses to actively identify and become directly involved in the country and the global social issues and needs. It is now common
When the recession happened, and the housing market crashed in Los Angeles a few years back many people lost their homes. The foreclosure crisis displaced many homeowners, drove up demand, and rental prices increased. Now, it is almost two years later, and the dramatic rent increases continue to soar. There would be no issue with cost of living increase except; the increases in income have yet to make the same shifts. “In many cities, rent is rising out reach of
After many years of customer requests, Company Q began selling a very limited amount of health-conscience and organic products. When local food banks asked for donations of day-old products, management declined due to worries over employee theft and fraud. If Company Q had looked at this request through the eyes of a socially responsible business, they could have donated the left over products to those in need, which in turn, would have given the perception that Company Q is concerned about the people in the neighborhood. When the residents of a neighborhood see or feel that a company is giving back to the community, they are more willing to patron the business. “The actions of a company color the perceptions, behavior, and well-being of its customers, prospects, and the community at large, affecting its own health as well as that of the world around it.” (McKee, 2012) Employees who work in the grocery store would also feel a sense of pride that their employer is giving back to the people who spend their hard earned money at their store. Employees who are happy and proud of where they work have less
closing the stores they could have done community outreach or service projects to help lower the rate of crime. They could have led the establishment of a neighborhood crime watch. They could have set up a mentorship program for teens at risk. There are a multitude of programs they could have implemented, some could probably have been used as a tax write off. If all of these efforts failed then I understand closing the stores. If they had to close the stores they should have made every effort to be sure that the displaced employees were able to find a job in another store or assisted them in being placed in another job. They also need to make every attempt to keep the building they were using occupied or cleaned up until it is occupied. How do these actions contribute to being socially responsible? It shows they care about their community, that even though they may have to shut down a store, they still
In Whittier the cost of rent and gas was always on the high side. Weather you are looking for a place to rent or needed gas in your car to get to work you are paying almost ¼ more then you would in Laughlin. In Laughlin rent doesn't seem to be as high as Whittier it actually seems to be a lot more reasonable and affordable. As well as the price of gas out here is so much cheaper and I never thought I could fill my tank with $20. Its nice not to have to think about how much money you are losing by driving around or going to the
The demographics estimated for Lapeer, the population in 2015 was 30,402, Lapeer population in 2010 was 30,749 and population in 2000 30,789, as we can see the population has not change in the last 15 years. Population density is 254 people per square mile. Lapeer is a small urban city we have 12,866, Renter-occupied apartments and homes Lapeer was hit by the real estate bang then bust. It enticed many first time buyers and lower income buyers, many of whom had purchased with little or no money down. When the market began to slide, those particular homeowners really got hit hard. Since then however, many of the distressed homes have cycled through the process of foreclosure and are now owned by people who definitely go in for a more realistic
As a busy “cross roads community” at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Linglestown was soon built up as an area of commerce, cultural, religious, and educated people (Linglestown History, nd). The Square became the center of the community surrounded by schools, churches, shops, and a community park. The demography of many small towns change over time due to the influence of social factors; however, the demography of Linglestown remains similar to when the European settlers arrived in the Village (Moore & Asay, 2013).
Good post on community involvement. I agree businesses and the communities need each other to influence on another. Did you know that “In surveying family businesses, researchers found that social and economic factors affecting the community may contribute to business performance and responsible actions. The National Family Business Survey reported that family businesses with positive attitudes toward local communities were more likely to serve in leadership positions and contribute to the community. Further, they found that family businesses were willing to accept leadership positions and contribute in the
Lowe’s deems that having diversity is key to being a good corporate citizen. Lowe’s has the opportunity to deliver outstanding prices, products and services to their customers. Lowe’s believes that they take it one step farther than any other company. Lowes’ thinks that with community involvement that they extend beyond the traditional retail setting. Like Home Depot, Lowe’s gives back the their community however, they are known to help in natural disaster recovery and take active roles in programs
The author focuses on rising housing costs. Here is where myself and the author begin to part. Unlike the author I don’t believe the answer is this simple. Although the rates as he describes are rising faster than any other market or minimum wage. One most always look introspectively at a cause first before looking externally. The problem with blanket statement like: the singular reason is rising costs, is that it holds blameless those who choose not to better themselves. One of the major problems I see in the world is a sense of undeserved entitlement. If you can’t pay rent in downtown of city my solution is to look for housing elsewhere. I have moved across the country from my family for years and now am the closest I have been in over 4 years still 5 hours away. Growing up my housing situation has been just as unstable as many described in this piece. It was a sense of pride and entitlement that put me in that situation not rising costs. After leaving home and moving to California I found myself struggling one day to make rent, I was paying $1,800 a month just for rent let alone a car payment and utilities. Although this was unexpected and due to something I could not control I had to remedy the situation I cut back on unnecessary expenses, moved when my lease finished and now I refuse to ever be in that situation again. I am now here at UW-Madison pursuing an education that will allow me to be financially stable for the rest of my life. If I can make it with all of the setbacks I have had in my life, why shouldn’t we encourage others to do the same? Minimum wage although it should cover expenses for housing we all know doesn’t and we adjust our sights to accommodate for that. We get an education and better ourselves and those around us. This allows us the lives we want to live. In closing I hold the renters responsible
The cost of living for people who make minimum wage or below can be extremely high. Particularly, in Baltimore Maryland with the closing of steel plants and the opening of the Inner Harbor, the residents were faced with an extreme pay decrease. Due to the lost of jobs and pay cuts many residents left the city, or were not able to afford housing. This contributes to a community of homeless people and 16,000 vacant houses.
We looked at a variety of ways to help alleviate this cost. Since one of the main issues causing high living costs in the Bay Area is shortage of housing one of the possible solutions could be building more housing. Possible problems here are that San Francisco itself is not too big of a city and in most cities of this type in the world the population density is increased by building tall buildings –
Lowe’s community involvement is in the spirit of their community mission statement “Being a good neighbor means being committed to improving the places our employees and customers call home. We see that as an investment in our future” (Lowe 's,
One key to a successful business is to advance and respond to the issues that underlie in its social responsibility to the community. Of the companies, Target shows more of a social responsibility to the community. Target has included itself and various programs such as raising money for Education, volunteering and offering a diverse work place for the community. As Target states on their website, “As a good corporate citizen, Target works to strengthen families and communities wherever we do business.”
In other words, serving a social need doesn't necessarily mean the company is giving money to nonprofits that feed the homeless; it means the company invests in the future by innovating products and services that meet social needs and also happen to be profitable. Companies
