Throughout the movie the themes observed; were violence as there were attempted rapes, initiation of gang membership with being beaten by gang members, there were people risking their lives for freedom by jumping on and off freight trains avoiding the boarder patrol hoping to get across to the United States, there was betrayal of family members and then violence with gun fire that led to death. I was angered by the mistreatment of women and the immigrants throughout the movie. The two young women in the movie were practically raped by the gang leader. I believe the movie was meant to bring sadness and also awareness of mistreatment of people. The message of the movie is that there are people who are born into life circumstances, others chose life circumstances because they feel there are no other options and then decide they want out …show more content…
Casper killed Lil’Mago and tossed his body off the freight car. Two wrongs do no make it right. Perhaps instead of taking matters into his own hands he could of wrestled him off the train and called the police. It was possible that his girlfriend being killed by the same person enraged Casper. The event most likely pushed Casper to unconsciously seek revenge immediately without thinking twice. Next there is Smiley the young one who idolized Lil’Mago. In a sense he possibly thought the gang life was a better way of life for him and he wanted to be a part of it. After Casper killed Lil’Mago he urged Smiley to leave immediately. He returned to the gang and told them every detail of the event. To prove his loyalty he promised to find Casper and get revenge for killing Lil’Mago. Smiley killed Casper as promised; he got his tattoo to honor his loyalty to the gang. The person I could see myself in counseling with would have to be Sayra. She was a young girl who had been through a lot and still made it to the United States. It is so important
Amazing how a little girl can make history and contribute so much to society. Despite the things she went through she stayed strong. She is great influence to all of us. Like Bridges says,“Don’t follow the path. Go where there is no path and begin the trail. When you start a new trail equipped with courage, strength and conviction the only thing that can stop you is
This movie Directed by Paul Haggis who also directed Academy Award Winning "Million Dollar Baby" and had also won an Academy Award for this movie as well puts a twisted story in this film. This movie is trying to symbolize what goes on in the world today in regards to racism and stereotypes. He tries to make a point on how societies view themselves and others in the world based on there ethnicities. This movie intertwines several different people's lives, all different races, with different types of beliefs. Such ethnicities include Caucasians, African Americans, Hispanics, Asians and Middle Eastern. This movie includes conflicts on both sides of the picture from cops and criminals as well
To start, the film seems like your basic run-on-the mill coming of age tale with a group of teenagers growing up to desire more after they graduate high school. However, there are various more themes discreetly displayed throughout the runtime of the film. For example, one central sociological overtone of this film is Marxism. With this overtone, it becomes possible to view this light-hearted and comedic movie in a
Q.1. What do you think is the main messages this movie is trying to deliver?

The movie shows the hardship and struggles of the black children and adults who are just trying to live their life in a disrespectful, uncaring white society. The movie has many scenes that show how blacks were treated by others, some scenes were more intense in showing racism than others. Some scenes are less graphic but racism was still obvious. An example of this is the way that other white coaches would talk to each other about Texas Western and insult them just because they were different from other college basketball teams at this time. There was one scene where the team was on the road traveling and they stopped for dinner one night at a restaurant. Before the basketball team enters the restaurant, people in the restaurant were talking badly about the team and giving them dirty looks simply because of their skin color. In some scenes, racism was also shown in more intense ways. An example of this is when the team stopped at a restaurant to get some food and get ready for the game. One of the players left the team to use the bathroom. While the player was in the restroom, that player was ganged up on by two or three white men and the player was assaulted and beat up very badly. The events and blatant racism really took its toll on the team. After some of these
The main issue throughout the movie is racism and the perspectives on different cultures. The movie is set in Los Angeles, a city with a cultural mix of every nationality. The movie starts out at
She dedicated her life to helping the sick and elderly after the war. Even though she was beaten throughout
One of the themes that stand out the most in the film is the struggle to overcome adversity and push through problems in one’s life that could otherwise get in the way from achieving goals. In the film, many
Although this film is disadvantaging to many people, it is also very beneficial. I think people that come from the lower class or an abusive household can really benefit from this film. The main point of this film is to show people that you can achieve anything you want to do no matter what background you come from, and although it might be hard because of economical/ personal issues you are not less of a person than anyone and you can still be successful. I love the idea of success because it doesn’t really have a set definition. You don’t necessarily need money to be/feel successful. You can work at Subway and still be successful while a twelve time Oscar winning actor can be successful. You sort of carve out your own success and make your own definition for it. This movie will also teach people that they are not on their own. Although you might think nobody is there for you, when you enter a room you don’t know what everyone is thinking or how everyone feels; you might now even know everyone. It is kind of like when you’re putting together a puzzle, you put certain pieces together and you get closer to finishing and you just need to keep trying to solve the puzzle because if you give up you just wasted your money on a puzzle

There were many issues and concepts that were arisen with this film. What seemed to be the major theme that predominated throughout the film was that being older does not mean that life ends. There are different issues that are dealt with when aging, but
The central message of this film is that Mexicans are taken for granted in the United States. The film touches on many major racial issues. At a comedic point in the film, it makes light of the confusion of Hispanics versus Mexicans and assumption that everyone is a Mexican. It highlights the very real poor treatment that some Mexicans face.
The playwright was trying to get quite a few messages when he created this play. First of all, I believe he was trying to show social change and the power and potential that an individual has inside of them, despite their circumstances. I think that this play/movie reveals the true messiness of life and how with the right mindset, you can make it through anything you
