The ongoing theme of the text is the idea of being homosexual in a traditional and homophobic environment. It was important to me to choose this as the theme of the story due to the recent events regarding the LGBTQI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex) community (e.g. nationwide approval for same-sex marriage and the Orlando shootings. The decision was based on my own personal reading choices (i.e. something that the general populace doesn’t talk about and makes some people uncomfortable). The story follows a Liam Withersone, high school student, the son of two very successful and bigoted lawyers. Based around the concept of a growing adolescent coming to the realisation that he may not fit the normativity of those around him. The story follows him as he makes the decision to admit to his parents of this …show more content…
This would be used as the figurative door as he “steps into his past”. He was Liam’s ongoing symbol of hope and change throughout the text; He was never given a distinct name other than the pronoun as He was used as a subtle parallel to Liam’s inward struggle against putting a name to his “uniqueness”. The act of Mercy of Mercy shown within the text is shown in the thoughts of Liam himself. He continues his battle with himself until the end of the text, wherein he accepts himself and whilst receiving mercy from himself the reader is left with the notion that Liam showed mercy to him. The ongoing language of the text is in relation to the character’s emotions at the given time. I used this as it was most suitable to explain the character’s thoughts and emotions. For example “We sit around the table, the only sound filling the air is the sound of the cutlery on plates.” shows that Liam although in the present time and aware of his surroundings, is emotionless; only a basic description of his use of his

In “Two Boys Kissing, ” David Levithan shares the stories of seven teenagers who are all gay, and the experiences they have while coming to terms with it. Even though three of the main characters have different stories and are at different stages their everyday experiences are influenced by gender as a process, the social construction of gender, and oppression. These three concepts shape and influence the stories shared in this book, but the main theme stands true and that is to be proud of who you are as a person and an individual no matter who that may be.
Writer appeals to reader’s emotion when a human finds him or herself in the state of isolation, Yarhouse, Mark A states his theory in American psychological association (psycnet.apa.org) elaborates it; “Examines the influence of evaluative frameworks on sexual identity development and synthesis. This involves incorporating an understanding of attribution and volition that is often omitted in alternative models of sexual identity development”. Male youths develop sexual identity during adolescence or in isolation, that quote from the book Invented Moralities, writer appeals to audience’s emotions, as gender and sexual identity does affect humans life, they are not treated equally, Kertzner states mental health outcomes are contrasted with depressive symptoms, social status makes people think about themselves as different.
My first theme is prejudice. It is never right for one individual to own another, or for one group of people to be denied equal rights because they are different in some way. In NightJohn, they were prejudice and made African American people be enslaved and work for them and treat them differently just because they were a different color than them. I’ve seen prejudice a lot all my life. Whether it’s for for colored people or gay people or whatever, in the end we’re all the same and should all be treated equally.
Sociologically, conflict is anything that can arise from a disparity between the values of two groups. These conflicting ideals is often times what can later lead to intergroup violence, however it can also be resolved with tolerance and understanding of differences so as not to have one group inflicting harm onto another. Unfortunately, throughout history this has rarely been the case. There has been a near constant struggle throughout all of humanity between these conflicting ideals which usually end up with one group made to be an outsider. There have been different groups to fade in and out of the spotlight over time, but there has also been the marginalization of anyone who does not fit the role of a person in the mainstream accepted culture. This social construct of roles is also important to history as there have been ascribed features to people 's lives based solely in biological characteristics. From African’s being made to be slaves through the middle passage, the Japanese internment camps during WWII, and women 's fight for suffrage against the traditional decree of the founding fathers that only white landowning males could vote, the backlash to the subjugation of different peoples into the outskirts of society is awe inspiring. In today’s modern world, this fight is undoubtedly what inspires writers to take on the ever so relevant subjects of racism, sexism, and homophobia in literature. While the issue of gender and sexual orientation inequalities
In coming of age stories, the protagonists often experience a pensive and dramatic moment where either they break through to adulthood or retreat to childhood - it is this moment that unveils the magnitude of growing up for the reader.

There are kids all over the world, and most of them slowly matures. Throughout the novella “Shattered” written by Eric Walters, the Protagonist Ian changes from a childish boy who only cares about himself into a mature and wise young man in a very short period of time. Throughout Ian’s journey of growing up, a few thing helped him on the way. In the beginning, Ian the main character has a terrible point of view of the world but by the end, he has changed his way of life. There are a few things that made him change his mind about the world.
Within heteronormative ideas and discursive practices, lives are marginalised socially and politically, as a result of they can be invisible within societies. During the time the novel took place feminism was in its second wave and hierarchal structures were dominate. All of these factors are thought-provoking and something I noticed subconsciously throughout the text, I would like to knowingly
