MBLGTACC is a three day conference that celebrates identities within the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer, intersex, asexual, and aromantic (LGBTQIA+) community. This conference will also explore issues related to oppression related to this community and how to resist that oppression. This conference will enhance my experience as an intern at The Pride Center at SVSU. The Pride Center is an office on campus that aims to provide resources, advocacy, and education related to the LGBTQIA+ community, to the University community as well as the Great Lakes Bay Region.
In Pablo Arauz article New Group Focuses on LGBTQIA Student Rights Arauz outlines the goals and ideals of The Rainbow Guard. Arauz begins by describing the Rainbow Guard’s goal to make campus a safer place for LGBTQIA people. The author then describes founder, Tyler Fincannons naming process. Arauz also describes how The Rainbow Guard is more political than other LGBTQIA clubs on campus who are more social. Another goal of The Rainbow Guard is to make campus safe for all members of the LGBTQIA community. The author also discusses the heightened percentage of suicides in the queer community. Another goal of the group is to create safe spaces for members of the LGBTQIA community, where students would be able to seek help if needed. Arauz also
As stated on the HRC’s website, “HRC envisions a world where lesbian. Gay, bisexual and transgender people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work, and in every community.” For the LGBTQ+ community, the Human Rights Campaign, known as the HRC, has been fighting for equal rights since 1980. Today, the HRC has about 1.5 million advocates and supporters throughout America. I will delve into the history of the organization and its logo and into programs such as, the Healthcare Equality Index, Project One America, Welcoming Schools, and All Children-All Families these measurements that the HRC has taken are changing the lives of those in the LGBTQ+ community.

As much as society has grown over the years there are still quite a few people who are bothered by the sexual orientation of the LGBTQ community. Emily Welter, of Butler University, constructed a qualitive study at a Midwestern University to better understand the social environment of the sorority and fraternity houses as it pertains to the acceptance of sexual diversity. It presses on issues such as: gender norms and perceptions of sexuality, the impact of sexual orientation, and the general decisions to join a Greek Fraternity or Sorority. The importance of this study is to see if there is an act of discrimination happening, whether it is intentional or unintentional.
In our modern era, the conversation about gender equality, marriage equality, and identity cannot be ignored. Even with current events relating to which public restroom one can use is a staunch reminder of the social inequities which exist in the United States of America. Beyond the social dialogue is the spiritual conversation. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer community fight not only an uphill battle with the pressure of society but also how to reconcile a relationship with God and a place within Christianity. It is through the thoughtful exploration of Queer Liberation Theology that a dialogue and public and spiritual discourse can flourish.

LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender. Most recently the community added on “QI” to represent those who identify as queer and intersex individuals.
I am passionate about help making a difference within the LGBTQ community. By improving the well-being of the LGBTQ communities. My underlying goal is to help serve the HIV’ AIDs community in order to help loved ones. My reasons for wanting this internship is to become an allied for both LGBTQ and HIV/AIDs communities. I will do this by having an open mind and being mindful of how others view individuals within these communities. I want to help to spread knowledge and awareness around AID/HIV and help get rid of the negative connotation around the LGBTQ community. I am passionate about helping individuals get their voice back. With my crisis intervention skills, and caseload experience, I believe I will be a great assess for this
What is a despaired population? What does despaired mean? A despaired population is a group of people that reside in a specific region in the world or have a specific label to them that makes them less equal than other population groups across the nation. Disparity is defined as a lack of similarity or inequality (Disparity, 2015). Therefore, when relating this idea to the healthcare system, many despaired populations have several health disparities as well, meaning they are at a disadvantage when attempting to access proper healthcare. One population in specific that is despaired due to many components is the Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, and Bisexual community, commonly referred to a LGBT. This population is mixed with individuals of various race, gender, income and many other qualities and was created due to sexual orientation. The sexual orientation of this group is described as “abnormal”, or what is not typical in this world. The LGBT community faces many challenges such as discrimination, negative stigma, rejection, violence, insurance denial, job denial, lack of money, and an absence of knowledge and acceptance. With these factors coming into play, many people within the LGBT community are at a higher risk for psychological disorders, a higher rate of suicide attempts and successes, and a higher risk of sexually transmitted diseases, which continues to makes this specific group a despaired population.
The presentation discussed many issues affecting the LGBTQA+ community, including the government, social media and NGO’s. The government has a big role in changing policies and laws that concern the LGBTQA+ community, such as police ignorance and propaganda law. Brazil had the world's largest pride parade but it is also the deadliest country in the world for LGBTQA+ people to live. This is highly contradictory and scary because if you participate in the pride parade, you become a target essentially. In russia, even though it is illegal to discriminate against LGBTQA+ people, the police are extremely lax towards this, making it very unsafe to be a part of this community. I think this is highly unfair because laws are created for a reason and this one does not harm anyone, it just provides equality. The police in both Brazil and Russia should definitely pay more attention to the discrimination happening around them and do their job by
The research question that facilitated our asset map was simply “What social outlets are available for LGBT youth in the greater Los Angeles area?”. We chose this question because the majority of the young people receiving services at our site are homeless, and as everyone knows, homelessness is a condition that can quickly lead to despair. We firmly believed that locating LGBT-themed social gatherings, groups, and organizations would be an essential step in pointing these youths towards systems of support that could help make their difficult circumstances more bearable.
Being queer isn't an insult! Many people of the LGBTQ ( lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) community feel attacked by people who are homophobic towards them. People should be informed about the LGBTQ community, and how they are not bad people for being queer. Mainly because there is a big stigma associated with being part of the LGBTQ community.
The article, “Some kindergartners to learn about gender identity amid push for new health education standards”, focuses on the hot topic of gender within the LGBTQ community. According to Strauss, LGBTQ students are more likely to be bullied in school promoting higher student dropout rates. Along with that, 56% of LGBTQ students do not feel safe at school because of their sexual orientation. As a result, the National Education Association (NEA) has proposed the policy to promote a culture of safety and support for LGBTQ students. Taking the NEA’s proposal into consideration, Washington state has been the first to update its curriculum to build an understanding of gender and gender identity starting as early as kindergarten. In my opinion,
When it comes to the topic stereotyping homosexuals, some people of the gay community will immediately agree that homosexuals act like the stereotypical gay person. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of whether gays are denying their sexuality and disregarding the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Community (LGBT). While some homosexuals are convinced that they are true to their gender, others believe that they should identify with the LGBT community and act like the opposite sex. In my own view men world wide have different personalities, those who are different tend to dress, talk, and act like the opposite sex these are the imperfect genders who 's sexual identities are mistaken.
