I am writing this letter to you in hopes that you will consider declaring war on the Japanese Empire. The United States must declare war against Japan. They have damaged us and others causing a great deal of harm. As by now I believe everyone in America knows, Japan has recently attacked the military base Pearl Harbor which resulted in the death of several thousand people. Japan carried out this attack without any sort of announcement or warning—a complete surprise attack. This single attack was still not enough, however, for Japan, and they continue to shoot down American ships with the use of torpedoes between the areas of Honolulu and San Francisco. Japan wreaks havoc on many other countries such as Malaya, Hong Kong, Guam, the Philippine
Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor seems unwise, ill-judged, and senseless. The attack was meant to keep the U.S. out of the war, but had the opposite effect and instead made them want to fight and join it. Japan, at this time, was not a major power and having them attack one of the biggest major powers by bombing the U.S. naval base in Hawaii didn’t appear like an appropriate idea for them. Then why did they do it? Japan’s reasons for attacking Pearl Harbor was their plan for a ‘new’ world order, the U.S. oil embargo, and the relocation and expansion of the U.S. naval fleet.
In the beginning, we are introduced to the Amber Billows’ father, Mr. Billows. He begins to explain that he has a big surprise, which is that he and the family is moving to Hawaii. Amber explains that she has moved 3 times (not including the time she moved from NYC to Washington), and that she does not want to move again, but the family needs to move because of Dad’s job as a news reporter. She believes that her father chooses the worst times to move, and that is when she finally settles in one place. She then gets angry at her dad for another move and storms off into her room. Her mother comes down to talk to her and explains that there is no choice, but she feels the same way, and she thinks that her father and her brother (Andy Billows) do, too. Amber feels better with her mom’s words, but she decides to stay in her room anyway, and the next day, she begins her research on Hawaii….
The attack on Pearl Harbor has been known for years since the attack, but do you know the reason why? Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese on December 7, 1941 at around 7:55 AM. About 400 Japanese planes bombarded the American naval base in Hawaii killing an abundance of our soldiers and sinking large ships. Also going on around this time was WWII in Europe against Germany. Japan had the same intentions that Germany and Italy had. And that was expansion of world power. So why did Japan attack Pearl Harbor? The attack on the US by Japan was made because Japan had its plans to create a new world order, the US embargo on oil, and Japan wanted to weaken our Navy fleet.
Have you ever wondered why the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor? There were 3 primary reasons that added together to lead up to the Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor. The Japanese wanted to create a new world order, they were in desperate need of oil, and they didn't want the United States naval fleets to grow too big to the point where they would be unstoppable. The Japanese were running out of time for all of those reasons, they needed to make a move quickly. They were running out of choices.
When the bombing of pearl harbor took place, many people thought the United states remained neutral in WWII prior to this devastating event. Cartoons were being drawn of the U.S showing no aid or support to our allies such as the cartoon in document 3. The United States remained politically neutral in WWII prior to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, however the U.S. was preparing for war behind closed doors.
Gowrie, Iowa native, Orval Hasty needed money to attend college, so he joined the marines in 1940, he ended up earning this money after the war. He got assigned at Ford Island to guard In February 1941. Around the 450 acre island there were other vessels and battleships. Orval said, "It was good duty. The climate was nice, we weren 't overworked and it was fun," with regard to the Naval Air Station Ford Island. When not at work Orval attended flying lessons, visited shows, and hung out at beaches. Sleeping in on Sunday mornings was normal for Marines and Sailors not on duty. Orval got up early asking his parents about his driver’s license through the mail. Orval didn’t know what was about to happen. No one knew. Before dawn 183 Japanese bomber planes, torpedo planes and fighter planes took flight on their way to Pearl Harbor. Wave two came later.
December 7, 1941: Attacks on Pearl Harbor: Around November 25, the US intercepted a message of an imminent attack on US soil. In addition, Japan started to move its navy towards Hawaii. Washington’s response to this was a warning to Hawaii, indicating the anticipated attack. However, on December 7, 1941, a fleet on Japanese bombers approached Pearl Harbor with the intent to bomb the navy port. US navy ships were left defenseless as the Japanese torpedoes starting to sink them. Within two hours, US lost eight battleships, two cruisers, and more than a hundred planes. About two thousand soldiers died and one thousand were injured. As a result of this attack, President Roosevelt addressed the Congress, asking for the declaration of war. On
The Pearl Harbor memorial is a beautiful sight to see. The memorial is over the USS Arizona but it is still recognizing all the ships that were sunk that day. A fair amount of people from Japan come to visit the memorial because it was a big deal for them too. Tons of people come to visit the memorial each year.
The motivation behind a bombing can be complex. In December 1941, the American naval base stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was savagely bombed by Japan. The destruction was, in part, the result of fears toward immobilization and defeat. It was also due to an obsession with power.
The main focus on this essay is “Why Did Japan Attack Pearl Harbor?”. On a normal Sunday morning when the American navy units were busy doing their normal routine work, the Japanese navy planned a surprise attack that stunned the world. This attack was so unpredictable that the entire American navy went in deep shock. Very few of them realized the need to manage and control their position to save the naval power. All the staff and ships that were present at the Pearl Harbor suffered massive loss. Just a couple of hours of bombing gave the Pearl Harbor, a battlefield view with fire and smoke emerging from every corner. The attack left American navy at a loss of 2400 of her best men as well as 21 ships that were either sunk or completely demolished.
Franklin Roosevelt was the thirty-second president of the United States. He served twelve years and four terms. He fought to keep the United States out of the war and helped those nations that were threatened or attacked. As a result, when France fell and Great Britain came under siege in 1940; he began to send all possible aid short of military involvement. The nation’s largest contribution was made to Great Britain in the form of fifty old and out dated destroyers that were built between 1918 and 1920. The Lend Lease Program and the Destroyers Bases Program was a major way the U.S. supported the Allies was efforts in 1940. At this point as a country we were anti-war and isolationist. So
Pearl Harbor is an American military base located in Oahu, named after the pearls that were found there. This base was originally a normal bay until the late 1800s when an agreement between America and Hawaii was made. At this time, Hawaii wanted to make their sugar industry stronger by taking away the money needed to send sugar into America. America accepted this, but in return gained access to Pearl Harbor and changed it into a refueling station for its army. 10 years after this agreement, America won a war against the Spanish, and gained land within the pacific such as the Philippines. America needed an army to support these new lands so, they started to change Pearl Harbor into an enormous army base. Although it suffered an attack from
Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike from Japan's Navy mostly on Hawaiian territory. First you could hear the fighter planes coming. It was before eight o'clock A.M. on December seventh, nineteen forty-one. United States into World War II. The U.S. base was attacked by Japanese fighter planes, bombers, and torpedo planes in two waves. The following day United States declared war on Japan. The Pearl Harbor bombing should be a holiday. The first reason is the background to the conflict. The second is the approach and attack, and the last reason being the aftermath. The date should be December, 7 because that is the day Pearl Harbor happened.
The event that brought forth the Idea to attack japan and destroy the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was Pearl Harbor. Japan had a history of executing surprise attacks before declaring war; one main example is when japan invaded Port Arthur in the Russo- Japanese war which would prove to be very successful . Many books were written prior to 1941 predicting an invasion of the Hawaiian Islands to gain access to the United States mainland including ‘The conflict of nations’, and ‘The valor of ignorance’ . The United States saw the military base on Hawaii as a point of power in the pacific and a last defense of their home land. Japan saw Hawaii as at point of expansion and an easy way for the United States to launch an attack on them. Attacking Pearl Harbor was not the original plan for japan. Japan wanted to bring the United States to them, but Japanese commander- in –Chief Isoroku Yamomoto pushed for an attack on the United States .pearl harbor was the home to the United States naval fleet and many fuel reserves. One of the main objects of japan was to destroy aircraft carriers and sink battle ships to put the United States fleet out of action and to discourage the people of the United States to not join the World War. The Japanese army spent over a year planning the attack and training pilots. The Japanese even created special torpedoes to operate in pear harbors shallow waters .
Breaking news; last week on December 7 1941, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour, Hawaii. Japan attacked as a preventative, so the U.S pacific fleet couldn’t interfere in the world war that is currently happening. As you probably know Pearl Harbor is located on island of Oahu, Hawaii, west of Honolulu. The japanese attack by dropping bombs out of ships and planes. The Japanese were very prepared and used the element of surprise, so they could attack Pearl Harbor. We have figured out what happened on the day of December 7th, so here is a brief timeline; at 6am the first wave of fighters left Japan, then at 7:33 the Americans got a message from Japan, they decoded the message and decided they wanted to fight. Hawaii didn’t get the message
