Leonardo Da Vinci Accomplishments

Leonardo da Vinci was a very intellectual and a scientifically gifted man of the Renaissance period. He helped the world understand many things such as anatomy and nature. He also created several inventions that were way ahead of his time. In addition to being an inventor, he was also an extraordinary painter, artist and sculptor and he influenced other artists such as Michelangelo. Therefore, I select Leonardo da Vinci to win the Nobel Prize for achievements in science.
Leonardo da Vinci is most know for his paintings. His most popular works of art are “Vitruvian Man,” “The Last Supper” and the “Mona Lisa.” The sketch of “Vitruvian Man" is a male figure in two overlying positions with his arms and legs apart inside a circle and a square. This shows his study of man to nature and studies of proportion. "The Last Supper" took almost three years to complete. This is a painting that shows Jesus and the twelve apostles having Passover dinner. The facial expressions and all the details make this painting come to life and it is considered a masterpiece. He would study the nature around him. He did sketches and asked himself scientific question like, "How do birds fly?" This led to his scientific career and also included anatomy, botany, geology, optics, aerodynamics and hydrodynamics. Because he was fascinated with the human body, he began to perform dissections on corpses and studied all the small organs, capillaries, and the skeleton. His studies, notes and observations of the human body started the birth of a new scientific method of study. This is another reason he is selected to win the Noble Prize in Science.
