After legalization of abortion, over 1.6 million terminations were executed every year (Donohue). The commonality of abortion has led to many societal advancements in the years following the Roe v. Wade decision. Abortion should remain legal because it can better the lives of children, improve society in general for a multitude of reasons, and due to the variety of circumstances women undergo. Legalization of abortion has been beneficial to children by creating better lives for them universally. Since the potential lifestyle of most aborted children could be less than desireable, escalation of access to abortion would boost the overall potential lifestyle of all children (Gruber). If abortion remains legal, more couples would be more likely to give birth during the prime childbearing age to give their children a better life. Contrary to common belief, abortion is not predominantly used by careless, uneducated, low-class citizens using abortion as a contraceptive. Most abortions performed are because the mother feels she could not take care of the child, and pregnancy would interfere with her education (Fernandez). Therefore, if more women have abortions to wait for a better childbearing time period, more children will be born into more educated households that could better benefit the child in the long run.
