So, It is a tradition to celebrated the Carnival every February. As a preparation for the “Lent”, the passion of Christ. It is sore of a imitation of a European “Mardi Grass”.Because, in the end we do have a mix of elements from the “Aboriginals, europeans ,and the slaves transported to the New World. My father took that picture last February, in The “Carnival” season. This picture shows a “Lechon” in front of large crowd, with a sunset as a background. It was taken the Monument of the Revolution Heroes, in Santiago. At a place that I used to played as a child. Without no doubt, this picture brought so many childhood memories.Every year as the month of February came upon us, It was a time for celebration.Because as a good christian town, “Lent’ was coming.I still can remember the fist time, when I was eight years old.I was able to parade as a “Lechon”.Even now, I am able to remember the smell of the newly made empanadas and the couples dancing a slow merengue song .Meanwhile, the “Diablos” and “Lechones” with their diabolical mask and colorful costumes, parading around entertaining and scaring the …show more content…
First, cure with lime, ash and salt. Then, dried and inflated. They serve to strike noisy spectators and other demons.I still can remember my first parade.I mean, It was madness.A large crowd of people, but you are just waiting for that one person not wearing a costume.Because you are only allowed to strike, if the spectator is no wearing a costume and is on the cement part of the street.Oh boy, I can not even describe how much I ran and the thrill of finding your victims. As a child, the feeling it is just simply priceless. In addition, the loud Merengue playing while couples were dancing in the crowd.“Merengue”, is a type of music and dance originated in the Dominican Republic. It has a signature rhythm accompanied by drums, tambour and a güira. And the food, the taste of a “Frio-Frio” in the heat. It is a ice blended drink and accompanied by a flavor of your choice. My favorite one was Raspberry, while my sister’s favorite was the coconut. Also, the amazing “Empanadas”, a stuffed bread filled with meats or cheese. My favorite one was the yucca empanada filled with cheese and fry. I mean, I was not allowed to eat or drink those fry foods cover in flour and dyes. Not in any other time, but in the festivities of the Carnival. It is very important for a country to preserve their traditions, so the next generation can also enjoy. The food like “Empanadas
This is a picture of my BIC card and is what I get as a Medi-Cal recipient, and the other picture is my new insurance card. I chose this picture for government health programs because the department of Health and Human Services are where they provide Medicare and Medicaid. The department of Health Care Services is where they administer Medi-Cal, which is what I have. It is the nations largest Medicaid program and many Californians have it. It pays for almost half of all births in California, and a little more than half of all the revenues in California hospitals. Medi-Cal, which is what I have offers essential health benefits similar to what Covered California offer. When I visit the doctors or is taken to the emergency room, my expenses are

Over the course of history there have been many contrasting and similar views in terms of religion and the practices done in this aspect. An example is the Mexica (name given by the West to refer to the Aztecs) practices of El Día de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) and the Catholic (people in the Christian religion loyal to the Roman Catholic Church and the leader of that church, the Pope) practices of the holiday. The Day of the Dead fell on about the beginning of August which was the ninth month on the Aztec Solar Calendar and was celebrated for the entire month. The Aztecs and other Meso-American civilizations commemorated this day by using skulls to honor and
Having said that, it is actually very much religious in ways that the other Caribbean festivals and carnivals are not.
For the visual portion of this essay I chose to print and paste pictures of objects that were either in the story or were symbolized throughout the story. I decided to put a justice scale for Harrison Bergeron because the story was about equality. the story was unique because it did not only make people ''equal in the eyes of God and the law,'' Kurt Vonnegut took the idea of equality to a whole other level by making every man and woman equal in every way possible, which is why I chose to represent this story with the justice scale. Another story that had a lot of symbolism is ''The Study in Geometry'' who's title cleverly means the study in triangles or in this case love triangle. In this story our protagonist
I. Attention getting device: When most people think of how to honor the dead, right away they think of mourning but the indigenous people of Mexico had a different idea. Instead of mourning, they think of honoring the dead as a celebration with dancing, food, and reminiscing. The name of this celebration is called Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead in English.
From Thanksgiving til mid December, people go to various stores to buy presents for their family and friends for them to open up on Christmas morning. While little kids go to bed early on Christmas Eve, to get their presents from Santa Claus. While in Guatemala, Christmas is one of their most important holidays to celebrate and it is very different from the way we celebrate here. In Guatemala, the season starts on December 7th. This day is called Quema del Diablo or “burning of the devil”.
Foreigners have more trouble understanding Dia de Los Muertos than any of Mexico's other celebrations. At first glance, they see Day of the Dead decorations which are colored paper garlands, little skeletons performing daily tasks and sugar skulls inscribed with names, which remind them of Halloween. Other tourists discover that much like Memorial or Remembrance Day in the US, families here visit, clean and decorate graves of loved ones for the
When thinking about Hispanic parties, most people think of piñatas, traditional hollow papier-mâché creations filled with candy. Each child at the party is blindfolded and given a stick to try and break the piñata, spilling the candy onto the ground for all the children to collect (Explore Hispanic Culture, 2012). However, researchers believe this tradition extends back to Mayan times, where clay pots filled with gifts were broken open and considered to be favors from the gods (EHC, 2012).
Generally believed to have begun in Florence, the Renaissance – also known as the ‘Rebirth’ – was a period of reviving interest in classical art and the beginning of scientific revolution. The Renaissance period did not begin abruptly; instead, it was an idea that took shape since the time of the painter Giotto (Gombrich 2007). In the early Renaissance period, Giotto experimented with and laid the foundation for painting with perspective, a method that was refined and perfected by later painters and sculptors. The period towards the end of the fifteenth century was known as the High Renaissance. It was the apex of artistic innovations, techniques, and productions. The height of the
This is an anti-smoking advertisement geared towards parents of young children. The advertisement is overall plain and simple; it gets straight to the point when you look at it and utilizes a dark theme. This anti-smoking advertisement is trying to evoke a sense of “parental guilt” into parents who smoke. The way the advertisement is able to do this is through the use of an optical illusion, use of text and the use of negative space.
For decades, the media portrayal of the Arab culture and Islam has contributed to a skewed public opinion in America. Looking closely at the news coverage concerning the Middle East and the United States, there is an inherent media bias against Arabs and Muslims as foreign threats to domestic security. Stephen Franklin argues that "Islamic nations are often portrayed in news reports as uniformly intolerant and anti-democratic" (Franklin 17). Unfortunately, such coverage has contributed to the public and government misconceptions of all Arabs and Muslims as terrorists. According to Fawaz Gerges, "terrorism has emerged as one of the most important political issues in the United
This story depicts a minister who was ridiculed his entire life over a veil he used to represent individuality. Hawthorne uses the super natural within the story to show how the unforeseen can be burdensome.
In short fiction is important to have a complex protagonist character. Characters exist largely for the purpose of moving the story along from one plot point to the next. The reader experiences the story through the eyes of the protagonist. A good development of the main character makes a good story. Based on Edgar Allan Poe’s quantifications as what constitutes a short fiction story protagonist, Sergeant Price, in Phil Klay’s work, “Redeployment” is an excellent example of a short fiction protagonist because he embodies the protagonist traits of being distrustful of the government, is an outsider, and is a reluctant hero.
Secondly, Trinidad has many renowned customs and traditions and prides itself for it carnival. Lieutenant Roberts says “Trinidadian Carnival is known world Wide and isn’t only a party, but a lot of history associated to it.” In early celebration of the festival by the masses activities were held over the three days preceding Ash Wednesday. However in the face of over sixty years of criticism from the upper class about the low standard of Carnival and strong feelings expressed about the desecration of the Sabbath. In 1943, the carnival on the street was restricted to the Monday and Tuesday. Belize Similarly has adopted a time for celebration that attracts much attention both nationally and internationally. This is our September Carnival Celebration. Belize’s carnival doesn’t have such a unique history and has adopted many of its structure from the Trinidadian carnival. This has included the recently introduced j’ouvert which has been a part of the Trinidadian Carnival from the onset. There was many notable differences that were noted such as the judiciary body where colonial style courtrooms were replaced with modern infrastructures. In Relation to Dimension 2, Lieutenant Roberts said that Trinidad citizens would demonstrate more Individualism than Communitarianism. This was mainly because of the rise in crime people would be focused on safety, personal gain and career opportunities. However, he noted that during many of these national events people would be united and
