The theories for practice is the main factor in health and social care, a professional’s role can be an important one. As a carer you have power to control a situation over a client. According to French and Raven (1959) there are five different types of power, reward power which is observed on the capability to get positive consequences, coercive power which is the ability to guarantee negative consequences, legitimate power which is view that someone has the right to suppose certain behaviours, referent power is the desire of assistants to be like leaders they believe have desirable characteristics and lastly expert power based upon the perception that a leader has expert knowledge the assistance don’t have. Some of the more common learning theories include behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism.
