After completing the SmaterMeasure Assessment and viewing the Learning Styles Tutorial, I found out that my two top learning styles are physical and social learning styles. The person with physical learning style learns better with an instruction that it allows students to have hands-on activities and use a touch of the senses. The person with social learning styles can benefit from a group discussions and interactions. I agree with the assessment because I like to learn by doing, and hands-on activities and experiments are the most helpful activities for me to learn new things. I also like to have a discussion about what I learn with peers and can benefit from it. Since the physical and social learning styles learners require the learning …show more content…
The Hands-On instructor creates the learning opportunities that consist with lecture-then-practice mode, class participations, and hands-on activities. I love the leaning environment that I can enthusiastically engage in learning activities such as a discussion and hands-on activities. While the Hands-On instructor is the easiest instruction for me to learn, the most difficult teaching style for me is probably the Well-Organized instructor. The Well-Organized instructor creates the learning environment that is well-organized for him/her, but it is not necessary that I would enjoy the most because most likely the Well-Organized instructor use an instruction that well-organized and well-developed consists with PowerPoint, Outlines, and illustrations; however, the instructor is only the one who talks, and there are no discussions and are no hands-on activities that I would enjoy and engage. Even though the Narrative teaching style, the Narrator can be challenging for me, I experienced that I can ask questions regarding the story that he/she is telling and the instructor love to answer with a story. I had positive experiences with the instructors who like to tell a story, and I enjoy listening to a
As an educator, I am a strong advocate for hands on learning. I envision my classroom with students actively learning by manipulating objects, preforming experiments, creating, presenting, teaching one another, and most importantly connecting what they learned to the real world. This type of instruction reaches students with different learning styles
It is important to decide at an early stage on the most appropriate teaching method for each candidate, to enable every candidate to achieve their learning goal in the easiest way possible. Some candidates will not respond well to classroom style teaching and may require one to one assistance for them to develop, others may develop their understanding better through demonstration or through explanations given by the tutor.
It is practical to assume that students will do better in tasks that reflect their particular style of learning, so knowledge of students’ learning styles, including a variety of tasks will make teaching more inclusive. A learning style questionnaire could be handed out at the start of a course which, once completed will inform the teacher about the learning styles of the students.
“Just as students have different personalities, they also have different ways of learing (Slavin, 107).” Learning styles are another important factor to incorporate when implementing the best learning environment. Learning styles are defined as an individual's mode of gaining knowledge. The most common learning styles addressed are auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. Auditory leaners understand information through hearing. Visual learners need more visual aids in the learning process, such as diagrams, webs, or pictures. Kinesthetic learners learn better by using manipulatives or by being physically involved in the learning process. Learning styles is a piece of the “backbone” of differentiated learning. Both are used to individualize instruction to help students achieve the most success.
Your child/student took a “Learning Styles Inventory” last week to determine how they learn best. They discovered that they were a visual, an auditory, or a kinesthetic learner.
i. Understanding the learners learning styles can make my course to be engaging. Flemming (1987) noted three different styles of learning; visual, kinaesthetic and aural. In order to know which method(s) to use to benefit my students the first lesson on my course will centre around discussions on what they already know, the resources they are familiar with, and a learning style questionnaire which will provide me with information on preferred learning styles. Effectiveness can also be enhanced if I adapt my teaching style to give maximum benefit to learners.
Learning styles and barriers to learning can be by the VARK to give a profile of learning preferences of how a person takes in and gives out information or Tidwell and Rodgers Practical learning styles Questionnaire. The VARK learning styles determines if the person learns by being a theorist, reflector, activist and/or pragmatist. The practical learning styles questionnaire looks at how people learn by their orientation, whether they are a realistic or creative, by their interaction, are they a doer or a thinker, by how they represent things, either by words or pictures, and how they process information, whether they are a surface or deep processor. There are many other
After completing the assessment, the inventory concludes that my learning style is predominantly feeling and concrete experiences. For concrete experience, my score of 43 reveals my passion to learn information that I believe is relevant for myself. Subsequently, scoring 34 for active experimentation indicates my preference for applying and testing ideas to understand a concept. Additionally, scoring 25 for reflective observation reveals how I learn concepts through observing others complete a task. Scoring 18 for abstract conceptualization indicates how my learning style does not depend on facts and figure. With all of these learning styles, my graph illustrates strong areas in mode 4 and 1, however, it is immensely low in mode 2 and 1. Overall, my results showcase that I belong in mode 4 learning. The learning style inventory is accurate as it reveals that my strongest learning style is concrete experience. This
As can be seen in the attached results, my learning styles are generally closer towards the midline, with my highest numeric value being a seven in favor of global learning, My tendency to favor the average has helped me to learn effectively in many diverse settings. Because I have almost no preference between active and reflective learning, I am able to learn from both teaching styles, however my slight affinity for active learning may explain why my skills in laboratory sciences and other hands on subjects are slightly better than my skills in classes requiring more thoughtful
According to the site educationplanner.org there is three major categories for learning styles, which is auditory, visual and tactile. I had to undergo a 20 question test to see which one of the three is my primary learning style.
Give some examples from your life and/or past school experiences of how your preferred learning styles have helped or hindered you.
(Learning Style Inventory and Learning Style Scales) and I agree with that results because I get the same results about my Learning Styles is Visual because that indicated I prefer using images, pictures, color, and maps to organize information and communicate with others.
Let’s begin with my Psychology class. In my psychology class, the teacher, Mr. Adkison uses a variety of teaching styles depending on the material. I would have to say out of all of them the one that is most used is a lecture or verbal with group discussions. This is also one of my strongest teaching styles due to the fact that it is more interactive and allows the class as a whole to discuss what we went over that day. My style of learning lines up with his method of teaching. When listening to his lectures, and looking at the pictures, graphs, etc. it allows me to make connections
By using educationplanner.org, acceleratedlearning.com and engr.ncsu.edu and their respective learning style tools, I have discovered more about how I like to learn. I have found that I enjoy mainly learning from visual sources. From each website, it is clear that I have a large desire to learn visually. Through my experience with school and these past few weeks of university, these learning styles tools agree with my presumptions. I have developed a habit to keep my work visually organised so I can process it better, such as using different colours when making notes as well as keeping the information neat. I also have found that when I am intensively listening and looking to a teacher or lecturer while making short notes I learn better than when focusing on note taking. By using this new knowledge, I will make sure to stick by this and
Traditional teaching styles use teacher-centered approach. It includes a teacher that stands at the front and tells students step by step instructions. The teacher decides what is learned, when it is learned, how it is learned, and how learning is evaluated. In a nutshell, the teacher is an information giver and evaluator. The students are just there to learn through lessons and direct instructions. Their attention is mainly focused on passing tests, assessments, and evaluations.
