This writer decided to read the first three chapters of the book Leaders Without Titles by Steve Sampson. The first chapter was called “Intellectual Dimension” which was mainly an introduction to the book as a whole and introduced some of the main topics to be discussed throughout the rest of the book. What was interesting about this chapter and caused this writer to pause and seriously rethink the idea of leadership was the statement retold by Sampson (2011) which was originally spoken to him by one of his mentors (Kindle Location 224). The mentor stated that “to influence without authority was the key to leadership” (Sampson, 2011, Kindle Location 224).
It seems that many have the idea that leadership is all about authority and power. This is seen both inside the church and outside as well, at least that has been this writer’s personal experience. The statement reiterated by Sampson (2011) drove home a major point and that is that leadership is more than simply demanding, commanding, or directing individuals under one’s control or authority, it has to do with one’s ability to influence others even when no apparent authority is present.

The second chapter was titled “Physicality Dimension” and explored the issue of physical appearance, health, and fitness as they related to leadership. This was probably the most interesting chapter read this week due to the fact that it was basically about physical health and fitness which was not something that this writer had ever taken into consideration when thinking about
Robert Banks and Bernice M. Ledbetter believe the subject of leadership to be one worth exploring, and they do so in their book much to our profit. In this short book, Banks and Ledbetter begin by presenting the overall question they want to answer: Do Christians' core convictions shape their views and practices of leadership or are they affected by wider cultural assumptions? [1]The book begins by exploring the many reasons for the increased interest in leadership today. The authors offer a plethora
Lord of the Flies has quite the turn of events in the first three chapters. As many as there are I’m only going to focus on one. That is when they choose a chief of the group.
The essays that comprise Traditional Classics on Leadership present varying notions of authority and of challenging authority. This is largely due to the fact that this manuscript is comprised of essays from 31 contributors, ranging from well-known political theorists to some of the more salient voices for individuality that the world has known. Still, there are some points of commonalities in these essays that present a synthesized viewpoint of the concept of challenging authority.
Leadership might be the most discussed and written about topics in our modern society. Thousands of books have covered this topic and people are often using this term correctly as well as in the right format. But what does it really mean? Strength? Power? Leadership could be as simple as holding the hand of a small child crossing the street, or as complex as signing the Declaration of Independence. A leader is not someone who cheats their way to the top, or tricks others into doing things. Being a leader is also not all about power and control. Power is not leadership because leaders don’t necessarily need any source of “power,” but instead are looked up to by their followers. The assertion of power can create feelings of fear, betrayal,
Leadership Implementation Quotient is a test performed to evaluate areas of strengths on a leadership position and to evaluate areas that should be improved. When I say leadership position does not mean a title. The book You Don’t Need to Have a Title to Be a Leader by Mark Sanborn has a very interesting and appropriated definition of the word leader. “Leaders are people that inspire and influence others, coordinate efforts and work with others to achieve goals, affect the quality of others experiences, and shape their life and careers” (Mark Sanborn, p.67, 2006). Leadership Implementation Quotient Quiz, helps a leader to self evaluate and have a better perspective about what can be modified and enhanced in their leadership, in order to improved
The concept of effective leadership is a topic that has been widely debated by individuals and professional leaders in many societies. In Kevin Cashman’s book, Leadership from the Inside Out: Becoming a Leader for life, the author reveals that leadership is defined through a person’s understanding of their internal nature, rather than the values, beliefs, and morals a society claims that a leader should possess. Even though Cashman does acknowledge the importance of the societal view of leadership, he argues that true leadership is defined by an individual’s understanding of their internal essence. In each chapter Cashman strongly debates that leaders lead by virtue of who they are. He defines this outlook on leadership as the Inside-Out Leadership Method. This is a method that allows an authoritative figure to develop a strong understanding of their physical, mental, and spiritual essence to lead others towards a mutual goal.

Chief King was promoted from the rank of deputy chief of the police department, and the outgoing Chief Mac’s right hand man, to chief of the department after a nationwide search. What makes a good leader? Everyone has different opinions on this, but a good leader is strong enough to make the right decision even when it is unpopular, holds up under pressure, and decisive when reacting to threats and opportunities. Great leaders do not need to be a certain race, religion, or military background, but they need to tolerate others and accept different views. Great leaders can gain respect by being knowledgeable of the field they are leading, whether it be engineering or finance. A good president favors a decision that benefits the nation, regardless of their personal or party views.
In The Leader Who Had No Title, Robin Sharma pictures Blake Davis, young army veteran whose life is transformed from a boring sad story to an epic adventure when he encounters Tommy Flinn, an eccentric stranger who teaches and guides him to become the best version of himself. The basic underlying principle of this book is anybody can become a leader irrespective of his/her hierarchical position at work. According to the author, any person can embrace self-leadership to take ownership of his life, unleash his hidden talents and abilities and make a difference to the world. Our young hero is eventually introduced to Anna, a self-actualized hotel housekeeper; Jackson Chan, a CEO-turned gardener; and Jet Brisley, a superstar massage therapist
Leadership is something that we are all born with because we are all born. Therefore, who is a leader and who is not depends on who really wants to be a leader and who does not. Leadership is a skill and so it can be learned. As anything that is learned it demands practice and practice to be the best. It would not be something that will happen in a matter of a day. There are multiple elements that make a leader. Collaboration is a key element for successful teamwork. Therefore, a leader must always be in the look for ways to foster collaboration. Creating trust within the team, support face-to-face collaboration, transfer responsibilities when making decisions, and ultimately teach other how to be leaders. All of this is not done if it is not done from the bottom of your own heart.
Over the years, a great deal of time, and research has been dedicate to the study of leadership. Even with extensive data on the topic, many still disagree on what leadership really means. Hence, leadership is a word that has many different meanings and different researched theories associated with it. On a basic level, leadership involves having and establishing a clear vision, sharing that vision with followers, respecting followers, and leading an organization with excellence while ensuring that everyone is part of the team. Leadership is also a method by which a leader uses his or her influence towards getting a group of followers to take ownership or buy into a vision.
“Leadership is influencing others by your character, humility, and example. It is recognizable when others follow in word and deed without obligation or coercion”.( Sonny Newman, president of contract manufacturer EE Technologies)
Leadership in the missional church can be instrumental in creating an environment where all people in the community “all owned the community.”(Bolger, 203). An emerging church requires leadership to foster an egalitarian point of view towards its community of members because this promotes an environment where people can feel they are productive, contributing and making a difference for their missional community. According to Bolger, “When leadership is
Leadership has been studied extensively and many varying definitions exist. Hughes, Ginnett and Curphy (2015, p.4) review many of these definitions and consequently describe leadership as ‘the process of influencing an organised group towards its goals’. Leadership involves the interplay of a range of different factors, not least the leader themselves, the followers and the situation. For
