Suicide attempts are common for transgender people. More try to kill themselves in their lives compared with the public. Transgender people get discriminated by the public. Having support and acknowledging someone's rights are important. There are many laws against transgender people. Everyone deserves equal rights, no matter their identity. All humans are human, even if their gender isn't their birth one.
Transgender people are discriminated for who they are. They usually feel like they don't matter. As seen in interviews, young transgender people feel like they have no control over themselves, and they have little laws that give them basic human rights. As said in Michigan Radio, “So I'd just sort of be walking with all my friends and then they just sort of kept going into their bathroom and I got to go into my special just-for-me bathroom... It made me feel like I was an "other." It just got lonely.” (11 1) Young trans people can be in bad positions, and can't get the resources (like top surgery of testosterone) because their parents are not supporting, which can increase suicide rates. These people need rights to feel accepted.
Another right trans people need is bathroom rights. Most

Eaglerising says, “A biological man, Christopher Hambrook, claimed to be ‘transgender’ in order to prey on women at two Toronto shelters. He was recently jailed “indefinitely” after a judge declared him to be a “dangerous offender…This is exactly what gender rational people have been arguing: allowing men into women’s bathrooms poses dangers to women and girls. It’s irrational, irresponsible, and gives predators free access to prey on the innocent.” (Bethany 1) Also, they think that transgender people wanna feel special and different. However, this just makes transgender body dysphoria worse, and they just want to cure body
People who identify as transgender need visibility in society so people can get educated on the matter and they can get what they need.
People shouldn 't have to kill themselves to become free, we as a society should make them comfortable enough to live there truth. 4.6% percent of the U.S. population has self reported suicide attempts, that number jumps to 41% for trans or gender nonconforming people according to digitalamerica.org. These stats were shocking to me, due to the fact we have celebrity transgender figures.
Majority of transgender people will face some sort of discrimination in their lifetime whether it is through being rejected by their families, denied housing or finding employment. “Employment discrimination forces many to become involved in the street economy and in survival crime. Widespread bias and ignorance among law enforcement and other officials mean that transgender people are disproportionately subjected to arrest and, in turn, imprisonment.” (al, 2011)
Transgenders are being categorized as being mentally ill. Though transgender counseling exists it only focuses on pathology and diagnosis. Transgenders are also severely at risk of hate crimes. In the United States alone, there are 321 transgender hate crimes per year. Transgender hate crimes can be compared to Muslims post-9/11. There’s no law to protect them from these hate crimes and nothing is ever really done to show them that they have rights too. There’s no law protecting them with employment right’s either. Due to discrimination they are vulnerable and led to no job, homelessness, suicide and even no health care. ( Anneliese A. Singh, Danica G. Hays, and Laurel S. Watson 20)
Oppression is prolonged unjust and cruel treatment. The LGBT community has faced oppression for a very long time. Transgender individuals face oppression in a different way and are often overlooked by LGBT groups because they are finding themselves in a different way. Transgender people are treated cruel and even murdered because of their choices and decisions. These individuals are facing oppression based on themselves but also in ways such as poverty. With discrimination comes the difficulty to keep a job and a safe work environment. This group is one of the main groups forgotten about and misunderstood. Instead of facing oppression for one reason these individuals face cruel treatment just walking down the street. It is impossible
I believe these people deserve a positive life, where they do not have to feel afraid. From reading accounts of transgender people and their experiences, I also believe being trans is more than just an identity. It is the way one feels deep down that makes them want to make the transition, as gender dysphoria can become painful to deal with. Gender dysphoria is a mental illness that causes extreme stress upon a person due to the identity they were assigned to at birth. It doesn’t sound like much, but to the person it
I think it's about equal rights. Transgender people don't want special rights. We want equal protection under the law, and mostly what we want is to be left alone. And if we can’t be left alone, we'd like to be treated with love.” Many parents of transgender children also say they are concerned for their safety. The human rights campaign says as of now there have been 16 deaths of transgender people just in 2016, and 25 in 2015. This goes to show that the LGBT community is not immune to violence, but rather much more likely to face it then to contribute to
In a lot of places around the world more and more people are coming out as “Transgender.” The term transgender means that the person’s gender identity does not correspond with the gender they were assigned as having at birth. From personally having a transgender boyfriend I have since realized that these people experience a lot of discrimination in and from society. Many people simply just do not understand what the term transgender means and they see it as someone just “wants to be a man” or “wants to be a woman.” While there may be people who present it this way, it is more so that the individual just “feels” different, and “feels” as if they are “in the wrong body.” Some people experience this feeling at a young age as my boyfriend did in his elementary age. We live in a world who put these people down for being who they truly are, and no human being wants or needs that.
I still think Prospect Avenue, is the best firehouse in the job. When the three companies rolled together, I was part of an unbeatable team whose tradition was written on an old, worn sheet hanging from a tired wall-high on the apparatus floor. “BE PROUD,” read the demanding motto.
Nearly 80% of transgender people report that they were harassed while 35% said that they were physically assaulted at school. Transgender people are also frequent targets of hate speech, Hate crime, Bullying, physical and psychological violence, Between 2008 and 2016 there have been over 2,000 reported murders cases in 65 countries across the globe. In the U.S at least 25 transgender people were killed in 2017. 30% of transgender youth reported a history of at least one suicide attempt, and nearly 42% reported that they had attempted self - harm. According to the national center for transgender equality research, transgender people with supportive families are for less likely to
Transgendered people in America have made many great strides since the 1990s. They have encountered violence, lack of health care, and the loss of homes, jobs, family and friends. There have been many phases of the struggle of being transgendered in America over the years. The current phase we must be in now is equal rights. There are many variations of discrimination against the transgendered community. In our society we simply do not like what we do not understand. It is easier to discriminate than to try and understand. We are all created different and we should appreciate our differences. The change must come by addressing the views of the public. There is much justification in the unequal rights of transgendered peoples. The Human
Transgendered men and women face more discrimination today than gays and lesbians. Individuals in the transgender community have been murdered at alarming rates as each year passes, trans-women and men are four times more likely to commit or attempt suicide than individuals who are heterosexual, Awareness is beginning to become harder to spread nationwide as many state legislatures are calling for transgendered men and women to enter public restrooms by their designated gender.
Transgendered individuals are more likely to be questioned and stopped by the police due to the fact that they are not the same as those around them. Additionally they are more likely to be engaged in survival crimes such as sex work, end up behind bars, and more likely to face abuse behind bars. They are humiliated daily; physically, sexually and are now emotionally scared for life.
In conclusion, the data indicates that the young adult’s within this study do not view marriage as a crucial step in the coming of age process, and rather place other life events such as attending university and working to advance their careers as more important in order to complete the coming of age process. The data obtained throughout this research project helps to understand both the lifecourse approach as well as the literature that has been previously written on this subject. An idea that is very relevant to the conclusions that this research project is mostly in correspondence with the idea of context. It is important when analyzing the data found within this research to understand the contextual evidence that is presented from the interviews. “The idea
During the mid 1800s socialist movements bagmen to arise in order to combat the system of capitalism that occurred at the time. These movements hoped to cause the economy to organize in a manner where production was left to the community (Sherman & Hunt, p. 94). The socialist movement spread rapidly due to the inequalities, as a result of capitalist structure, that persisted within England during this era. Despite the socialist movements, capitalism persisted with capitalist enterprises being replaced by corporations that grew to be giants. With this occurrence, the incomes of individuals grew to be more unequal. This resulted in many people advocating for the more equal income-distributed, socialist movement. In the following years, during
