What is LASIK?
The part of the eye responsible for refracting light in a way that allows an image to be created on your retina is the cornea. However, any imperfections in the shape of the cornea can cause blurry images to be created. LASIK surgery is a procedure that uses a laser to remove some of the corneal tissue, reshape the eye, and permanently fix these imperfections.
The Procedure
LASIK starts by numbing the eye using numbing drops and then the area around the eye is cleaned before an instrument called a lid speculum holds your eyelids open. Then, if traditional LASIK, or mechanical microkeratome, is chosen, a ring will be placed around the eye. Using extremely high pressures to create suction, your vision will dim and a little bit

The patient was brought to the operating room, and tetracaine was instilled in the operative eye. The patient was then docked with the LenSX Femtosecond laser. My preestablished protocol for the operative eye was administered with the laser, creating the primary incision, the side port incision, the capsulorrhexis, the nuclear grooves, and toric mark. The operative eye was then anesthetized with lidocaine given in a peribulbar fashion. The eye was then prepped and draped in usual sterile fashion. The previously created incisions were opened using a Slade spatula. The capsulorrhexis was inspected and found to be suitable. Gentle hydrodissection was then performed. Using the phacoemulsification handpiece and a Drysdale nucleus manipulator,
A thin, lighted tube with a tiny camera on the end (laparoscope) will be put through the incision. The camera sends pictures to a video screen in the operating room. This lets the surgeon see inside the abdomen during the procedure.
Choosing the right doctor to perform your laser scar treatment procedure can make the difference in the success of your treatment. Because insurance does not usually cover the procedure, cost will be a factor for most people. However, you should not simply choose the lowest bidder. If you do, you may find yourself with a doctor who is more interested in your payment than in your health and the success of your scar removal treatment. Make sure you find a reputable doctor to whom you feel comfortable entrusting your skin. Once you find a doctor, ask about payment plans for your treatment. Some doctors also offer discounts for purchasing multiple treatment sessions in advance; this can be a way to bring down the total cost of treatment without
Main Point One: In 2017, Wachler stated that LASIK eye surgery also known, as laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis is a procedure performed to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism.
By using laser treatment it can delay the use of daily eye drops. Laser treatment is use to clear or open up the drainage canals that are lowering the movement of fluid in the eye. By clearing it up the eye pressure is lowered stoping the damage being caused to the optic nerve. Yet the effect of laser treatment is not permeant and the patient will eventually need to use eye drops.
Prior to a surgeon removing the diseased lens a long needle gets inserted through the lower eyelid, and anesthesia is injected in the area behind the eyeball. This will numb the area so the patient will not feel anything during the procedure. The two types of cataract surgery are phacoemulsification and extracapsular cataract extraction.
When someone has nearsightedness, or myopia, their eye is too long depthwise. This causes the image to focus in front of the retina instead of at the retina causing a blurry image when the object is far away. Using contact lenses causes the light to refract before hitting the eye lens to refract again. The lens is used to refract the light in such a way that when the light is refracted by the eye, the image will be formed at the retina.
The eyes perform the crucial function of capturing images; these images are then sent to the brain for interpretation. The eyes need to bend the light rays to allow the retina to apply focus for the whole process to complete. People, who have vision problems, often suffer from refractive or light bending problems. The solution to most refractive problems is wearing contact lenses or glasses. The other common interventions for eye problems include; vision therapy, ortho-k procedure and Lasik surgery. Below is a list of common eye issues that can cause one to use glasses or contact lenses:
sense of self-esteem and raise insecurity concern on his part. Besides, having to live with a life-changing diagnosis for the rest of his life was traumatizing and frustrating altogether as it was associated with some form of isolation from friends and family. Nonetheless, he acknowledged the contribution of his carers (immediate family and clinicians) who gave him hope in life (Hudson & Ogden, 2016).
Another common cause of blurry vision is dryness due to the inability of the eyelids to close because of swelling. The swelling makes it difficult for your eyelids to distribute the tear film evenly across your eye, which causes this distortion. Sometimes you may notice additional tearing, but your eyes remain dry, this should resolve over time.
Treatment of open-angle glaucoma usually begins with prescription eyedrops. These eyedrops lower pressure inside the eyeball, either by causing the eye to produce less fluid or by helping fluid to drain more. As an alternative to medication or when medication does not control glaucoma, laser surgery can be done. This surgery, also called laser trabeculoplasty, uses a laser to make the openings in the eye's drainage network larger. If medication and laser surgery are unsuccessful, conventional eye surgery may be necessary to make a new opening for fluid to leave the eye.
LASIK surgery is something many people have considered, but never gone through with because frankly, no one is particularly keen on lasers near their eyes. Modern LASIK essentially works by using a pair of lasers, one to first create a thin piece of hinged tissue known as a “flap” in the cornea or front surface of the eye, and a second to remove tissue underneath this flap to reshape the exposed cornea beneath this flap.
Femtosecond lenticule extraction is a new method for refractive correction of myopia and myopic astigmatism.1 The only available femtosecond laser platform to perform this surgery is Visumax (Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Jena, Germany). During the femtosecond lenticule extraction procedure, an intrastromal lenticule is created between two photodisruption planes (ie, cuts) and mechanically removed for refractive correction. The anterior lamellar cut is parallel to the corneal surface at a preset depth. The depth and shape of the posterior cut determine the thickness, shape, and refractive power of the removed lenticule. Corneal cuts are performed from posterior to anterior, as once a photodisruption plane is created the bubbles make deeper structures untreatable for the femtosecond laser platform.
I looked into the physics of the eye itself and into corrective lenses because I wear glasses. The human eye is a very complex piece of anatomy. Like a camera, the eye is able to refract light and produce an image that can enable someone to see.
