Set high in the Adirondack Mountains range, Lake Placid, a sizeable freshwater lake, lends its name to the village which lies on its shores. Ripe with history, Lake Placid has flourished as an Olympic Village since its settlement in the nineteenth century. Over the course of these last two-hundred years, residents have built and rebuilt Lake Placid Homes which have experienced history in the making firsthand. The first documented settlers of Lake Placid arrived with the discovery of iron ore nearby. Although their Lake Placid Homes are probably long gone by now, it was these families who inspired others to come to the region. Having failed in the mining industry, the land was sold off to the likes of Garrett Smith who attempted to relocate his former slaves to the region to start their lives anew. One such slave was John Brown and, of the many Lake Placid Homes that are standing today, he is recognized as one of historical significance. An abolitionist, Brown built a farm in Lake Placid and was later laid to rest on the land. Some years later, the founder of the Dewey Decimal library system brought fame and money to the region by building one of the most important of Lake Placid Homes, the Lake Placid Club. …show more content…
Lake Placid Homes can often be classified as Victorian style, but more often they are considered "Adirondack" as they are rustic and "woodsy" much like the region itself. In recent years, many new Lake Placid Homes have been built and the village has expanded its boundaries to accommodate new rural developments. Despite the "new" construction, Lake Placid Homes are still typically of the Adirondack style, staying true to the roots of the town. The history surrounding Lake Placid Homes and the popularity of winter sports continue to attract new settlers to the region, although unlike history, they are not in search of iron

This summer one scientific thing I did was use a water mat on Lake Winnipesaukee. A water mat is a giant raft that floats on the surface of the water. It's constructed from the same styrofoam type material that a pool noodle is made out of. It is extremely versatile and can be used in many different ways. The way that I enjoyed using it the most was to jump from our pontoon boat onto the mat. I would make my way to the edge of the boat, steady myself, and leap, landing directly on top of the green float. The impact of the jump made my feet feel sore for a few seconds. When I was ready, I would hurdle myself off the mat and climb back onto the boat. While this activity does require a lot of skill, it requires a lot of science as well.
The Battle of Lake Champlain was an important victory because it created a dent in the British plan to invade from the North and it ultimately convinced the British to surrender the War of 1812, which caused the US to gain worldwide respect. To begin, the British had been trying to invade America from the south, but they had very little success. They then decided to try and invade from the North, using Plattsburg, a city on the shores of Lake Champlain, as their headquarters for the invasion. This is why it was so vital that the US won the Battle of Lake Champlain because it hurt the British plan to invade by destroying a major part of their plan. This also convinced them that it would be too difficult and expensive for the benefit they would

Lake Placid 3 can be a video from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, that is going to DVD later this month (October 26th). The picture debuted around the SyFy station July 21st and also the first film in the line was made long ago in 1999. The edition assessed this is actually the unrated content with loads of T & A, with all the best performance via Yancy Butler (Kickass) since the lout and part time hunter, Reba. Betty White has long been ignored inside the first picture and her alternatives, a bunch of small twenty somethings, certainly are a poor, soon-to-be useless alternative. Not so cuttingedge and never really family honest, Lake Placid 3 is simply plain average.
