Labeling happens all over the world, labeling mostly happens in negative ways. Labeling was the number one reason for hate in the 1900’s. Labeling was the biggest reason for Hitler killing the Jews, the Salem Witch Trial, Joseph Stalin, and Slavery by labeling the blacks, and Isis wanting to kill everyone and take over. Labeling rarely happens in a good way it is mostly 90% negative. When Hitler was in charge of Germany, he hated the Jewish. He never really had a reason to hate the Jewish he just did. Hitler wanted all people to be like him. He wanted to create the “perfect race” that he thought was blonde hair, blue eyes. Hitler killed all people, except for blacks. Hitler killed well over 6 million Jews, and 27 million people overall. Hitler …show more content…
If you were black/ African-American you were labeled automatically as a slave. Slaves were brought to America to work, they would be out in the field for 12-18 hours a day constantly working with no breaks. Sometimes the slave owners wouldn’t even give them water or food they would starve. Slaves were much mistreated, and it was so unfair to them. Slaves didn’t have rights because the civil rights weren’t yet invented. Slaves were always in the fields whether it was picking cotton, to producing tobacco they did everything. If the slaves ever messed up they would get beat, their owner would beat them and leave bruises, and scars on them. The owners were brutal they made the slaves get up early and go to bed very late. The slaves averaged about 4 hours of sleep a night. Slaves tried to escape and run away by getting to the Underground Railroad and hiding in houses but some of this was impossible to do. If they ever got caught they would be beaten, and sometimes even killed. “I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit together at the table of brotherhood.” This was a very famous quote from Martin Luther King Jr. This quote was when the blacks and whites would never communicate, never even allowed to do anything with each other. Racism still happens in today’s society, and is completely wrong. “Ants are so much like human beings as to be an embarrassment. They farm fungi, raise aphids as livestock, launch armies into war, use chemical sprays to alarm and confuse enemies, capture slaves, engage in child labor, exchange information ceaselessly. They do everything but watch television.” This was a famous quote as well from Lewis Thomas. This just shows what the whites thought of the black people, color doesn’t mean anything and all the whites were wrong. Eventually fell and collapsed when the civil war happened, and the civil rights were invented.
Whites have always considered themselves superior to blacks, no matter if they were slave owners or not. Blacks were considered lower than humans, making them a main target of oppression of whites. So even when a small group of blacks were given their freedom, they weren’t truly liberated from the chains of slavery and oppression. Blacks were freed in the early 1800s, giving a limited amount of blacks the freedom they deserved. These blacks were usually rural, uneducated, and unskilled domestic servants who had to work hard to survive in the society that shunned them. Free blacks were still given restrictions and laws because of their status in society. In the early 1830s, a law in Virginia was made to prohibit all blacks from getting their education. They even took it to the level where free blacks who went out of state to educate themselves were not able to come back and return to their own state. The worst restriction was that blacks could not testify in court. When a slave owner claimed that a free black was their slave, they could not defend themselves, and would have to conform back to their slavery. Despite the terrible treatment given to blacks, some rose above the oppression and became successful, therefore achieving their goals and potentials of being a free black man, leaving a huge impact on society in the 1800s.
Hitler’s hatred of the Jewish race stems from the German defeat in the first World War. He blames them for a “stab in the back” even though 100,000 Jews had served from Germany and Austria and 12,000 were killed. Right after he and his family moved to the city of Czestochowa, the German military came in and put placards up that ordered all Jewish males between the ages of 15 to 80 to report
Adolf Hitler killed 6,000,000-11,000,000 from Jan 30, 1933 – May 8, 1945, known as the holocaust.
Adolf Hitler wanted the Jewish race to be destroyed forever. But he didn’t just stop at beliefs. Even if you were a Christian, Catholic, Atheist, etc., you were still in danger. You were still in danger because if you looked Jewish to him then you were swooped up and taken hostage in a concentration camp.
Slavery is an association of authority and respect where one individual, the plantation owner, owns another individual, the slave. The owner can command the individual to various jobs around the plantation. Slaves were brought from Africa to work in the home, babysit plantation owner 's kids, and the most popular , to work on farms. Women were more common for working in the owner 's homes and watching after the owner 's kids. Where men were more likely to work on farms picking cotton. Slavery was serious and diminishing towards the African American race. Punishment toward slaves included numerous gruesome activities such as being whipped. Slaves had no legal rights. Slaves could not own property, vote, or have control over their family. There was so much expected from slaves to keep the plantation running like it needed too. Without slaves the South would not
The Jews weren’t always liked, and they never had a place to call home, being spread out all across Europe. However Hitler took things to another level, blaming the Jews for Germany’s defeat in WWI and its following economic depression and. It is unknown why he chose the Jews as scapegoats, or whether he actually even believed the Jews were responsible, but all he saw at the time was Jews living in prosperity while Germans were suffering. Hitler’s hate made him feel like he had to exterminate all the Jews in Europe, so in his memoir “Mein Kampf”, Hitler wrote down how he planned to kill all the Jews. However the Jews then didn’t believe one man would be willing to go this far for no certain reason.
A slave is a person who was the legal property of another person. In this context, they were Africans that were abducted from their homes and shipped to North America. Slaves were poorly treated and physically abused. Both men and women were treated like animals. Slaves had to do an obscene amount of labour, often to exhaustion and sometimes until death. They usually had to do agricultural work such as picking cotton, harvesting sugar cane, planting and harvesting rice, harvesting tobacco, growing and harvesting coffee, building railroads, weaving, carpentry, washing clothes, cooking and more. They had no control of what they had to do, as they had to obey their owners. The housing that slaves lived in was atrocious. Slaves usually had to make their own homes. There were up to ten slaves per hut. Their beds were made from straw or old rags. A quote from someone who has witnessed the cruelness of slavery: “For black men and women, slavery was an equally
Finally, many purely hated Jews because they were not Aryan. Germany was one of these countries. Hitler, the leader of Germany, has carried hate for the Jews since early childhood. Primarily, he blamed them for his mother’s death along with him not getting into his dream school, Vienna Art College. Also, they were blamed by Germany for defeat in WWI and as the cause for unemployment. However, mainly Jews were persecuted because of the way they looked. At the time, Hitler wanted a racially pure Germany. He believed that by adapting the Darwin theory of survival of the fittest, he would be able to create a stronger generation and kill those that are impure or disabled.
In the mid 19th century racism had started to occur. Then it quickly transferred into slavery where than African Americans were slaves to the whites. The African Americans were not brought to America by choice but because the whites decided to use them for slavery. Some whites would trade them for any house supplies they needed, and they were sold to the colonist of Europe. Where then they had labor work that needed to be done, African’s did not get a wage for doing this labor. There was a law that Africans were not considered humans, but objects that worked. When Americans won the land from the british, Africans were not exactly free from slavery. Slavery was a hard subject to talk about but they still did not receive the respect they needed. They were not even
The Jews were starved to death, shot down for the most pointless reasons, were put through all different kinds of torture. Those who survived were forced to work in labor camps, all because Adolf Hitler had a bone to pick with Jews. Adolf Hitler was a dictator who had 850,000 Nazis under his hand. He despised Jews, and used his forces to take Jews hostage and force them to work in concentration camps. Ironically enough, it is believed that Hitler may have had Jewish ancestry. He wanted to rid the world of Jews, creating what he believed to be a perfect civilization.
The main reason why Hitler divided the Jews from Europe was because of race but also because of religion. Hitler believed that Jews and Judaism were dangerous and would take over the world. In Hitler’s Mien Kampf he states, “The Talmud is not a book to prepare a man for the hereafter, but only for a practical and profitable life in this world.” Hitler really believed that Jews are taught by their religion to dominate the world so he decided he would do everything in his power to prevent that from happening. The Jews
Hitler, in 1934-1945, believing in the works of Charles Darwin, made concentration camps for the jews. He discriminated against the Jews, and declared The Aryan race to be superior. The killing of the Jews was both out of fear and pride for Hitler. He feared the fact that the Jews might spoil the pureness of the Aryans. He took pride in the fact that his race was superior, and so wanted to maintain his race’s superiority to keep his pride intact.
Slaves weren't allowed to work, “Only unskilled jobs”(History Alive 335). Black people were separated from white people. White folks created separate bathrooms, restaurants, and bars for black people.
Back then, not all blacks had the same privileges and racism wasn’t just about black and white people. This is an example of colourism. Colourism can be “defined as a conscious or unconscious state of prejudice that may be experienced by both blacks and whites so that they label as less attractive and intelligent individuals of a darker complexion, particularly, when it comes to black women” (“Demystifying”). Among the black community, there is racism between it as well. Back then, white slave owners “allowed those of a lighter complexion certain privileges and denied those of a darker complexion those privileges and created in the minds of blacks that “light” is better. In addition, the selling of lighter-skinned women into prostitution or to salve masters to become their mistresses helped to concretize the idea that light skin is better” (“Demystifying”). But racism is not just about blacks and whites. It can be between any races. With the internet and the power of social networking these days, it is even easier to repudiate and excoriate people. People can criticize you secretly and not include you in certain events without your knowing. You can express racism even behind a computer screen on a website plus make it private so it can’t be seen by the public.
Some sociologists believe that the cause of crime and deviance is labelling which is when a label is attached to a person or group of people due to their appearance, sex, ethnicity etc. Labelling theory argues that once this label has been attached it can create a self fulfilling prophecy, which is when the person begins to act according to the label and hence it comes true simply through being made. Labelling is similar to stereotyping but this is when a person assigns certain characteristics to a labelled group. An example to support this would be 9/11. Since this disaster people label Muslims as being terrorists
