Kpop music is known as South Korean music in general and it consists of a variety of genres. Some examples of types of music used in Kpop are r&b, hip hop, EDM, pop, rock, rap, ballads, etc. They try and fuse American music although the lyrics are still Korean and contain a few words in English. The important elements in Kpop are the music correlated to the visuals of the performance such as the music videos. Mainly because they implement choreography that is related to the lyrics of the song. For lead singles, they usually have a ‘point dance move’ which just relates back to the topic of the song. They are known for their unique and colorful outfits and music videos.
As for the history of K-pop, it dates back to 1885. Reverend Henry Appenzeller started teaching American and British folk songs called “changga” in a school located in Korea. For these particular songs, the English lyrics were then replaced to the Korean language. (“History of KPop Timeline”) During the 1910 to 1945 Changga songs were popular by then, meanwhile Korea at the time was under Japanese rule and Korea used the songs to express their feelings against the Japanese oppression. From 1962 to the 1980’s, rock music reached Korea with the rise of popularity from The Beatles, Hippie Folk Pop was influenced by the American Hippie movement. Ballads became popular after the release of Lee Gwang-jo with his release “You’re Too Far Away To Get Close” which sold 300,000 copies. (“History of K-Pop Timeline”)
Everyone has seen a music video at least once in their life, whether young or old, or on MTV or YouTube. Music videos require a combination of a beautiful song and visually pleasing graphics that uses pathos and ethos in order to capture the attention of the audience. The Korean K-pop group BTS utilizes pathos and ethos in their music video for their song “I Need U”. Bangtan Sonyeondan, Bulletproof Boys, or simply BTS, is a seven-member K-pop group formed under Big Hit Entertainment in 2013. “I Need U” is the title track of the first album in the three-part album series titled The Most Beautiful Moment in Life. The song was created by BTS members in order to convey the message that youth is the most stressful period of one’s life, although by overcoming difficult obstacles it is also the best time of life. BTS’ music video for the song “I Need U” makes use of ethos and pathos in such a way that provides viewers with a new perspective on youth.

Gangnam Style, a K-pop single by Korean musician Psy was released in July 2012 and became an instant sensation all across the world. The popularity of this song and dance went viral, however, there is an prominent issue with the stereotype of asian males. Gangnam style is a a great example and representation on the emphasis of how established stereotypes of Asian males remain and continue in the media, particularly in Western media. In a personal opinion, Gangnam Style is such a success due to its Asian stereotype that is depicted as being fascinating and almost comical. The song has little English words and many people in the world do not understand a single word of the lyrics, let alone the meaning of it. The reason I picked this topic is because it’s safe to say that almost everyone in the world knows, or has heard of this song and I don’t understand why, and I can only come to conclude that it is due to this racist, yet evolving stereotype of the Asian male represented in its music video. Gangnam style isn’t just another well-known song, to me, the music video is a little offensive and makes me wonder if people actually realize how unpleasant and discriminating the music video is. This topic may be extremely different from my previous topic choices such as Tiger moms, but as the days went by, I was concerned and felt more and more repulsiveness to how this particular song managed to achieve such success in the global market and mainstream popularity within the entire
Youths of various nations have added their own style into the musical genre. In countries such as Japan, hip hop is better known as Nip- Pop, the genre has grown to be quite a commercial success and has become a cultural movement in Japan.

Many people do not understand her because of her hobby. K-pop is her inspiration to achieve her vision to be successful. The poem also says that as a fan girl, she wants to go to Seoul Korea to marry her bias. The poem states that as a K-pop fan, she emphasized that music has no language barrier because communication through the heart is better,

Korea is a vibrant environment for contemporary music, and produces a wide array of styles. The country has produced internationally prominent composers and singers including Psy in which one of his music became a global phenomenon. Moreover, a new genre called Kpop also emerged during the 1990 's up to present. Today, The melodies of Korean music are quite similar to the mood of early 2000 's rhythm and blues music from America. Reflections of African American music are quite prominent due to Korea 's western influence and the United State 's heavy influence of Negro spirituals deriving in the 1800s during slavery of which you still see in music today. Story telling is very important in every culture and as Korea has had it 's own hardships it is easy to see how musicians took their own hardships applied them to influences from African Americans.
This tragic Korean pop song is about a man who finds the love of the life and has a desire to propose to her, but right before he can make his move another man comes and proposes to her instead. Taeyang fashion choice is very interesting because it’s not as different as what most people perceive Asian culture. He wears very casual clothes like biker jackets, suits, branded t-shirts, and others. It shows that hip hop culture has not had an impact not only in America but in other countries like Korea. Taeyang choreography is very similar to Justin Timberlake where they use a lot of hand movement to express emotions but it’s different in the sense where the background dancers almost always mirror his movement. The only time he doesn’t mirror their movement is in the final eight counts where he does his own solo and the background dancers have partners. This movement is like how we will have to create our own solos to stand out for our Pop Dance
I was the “funny guy” in my clique of high school friends. Ever since I learned to read English, I enjoyed reading and collecting joke books. I exhausted every single joke book from the small community library in town. Riddles, jokes about animals and wildlife, reasons why I didn’t do my homework, lawyer jokes, and later on, ethnic jokes. I knew they were funny, but I wanted more. Perhaps it was my lack of physical achievements that made me obsess with a need to entertain my peers.
Furthermore, global consumers are progressively embracing popular cultural products such as music like Gangnam Style as well as film and other audio-visual media content through online social media community networks. Jung & Shim (2014, pp.485) illustrate that following Psy’s global success, other Korean pop music or K-Pop, have become one of the most vigorously distributed forms of pop culture globally, through its distribution via social networks. Hogarth (2013, pp.144) illustrates how K-Pop entertainment agencies have recognised the Internet as an important means of spreading this cultural product internationally, and now continuously launch K-Pop music videos through YouTube. As most K-Pop videos are freely available on YouTube, they are accessible to a multitude of viewers worldwide. This in turn has facilitated the ubiquity of K-Pop music consumption though social media among individuals, on a global scale which Huat and Jung (2014, p.41) illustrates with example to the Indonesian youth. This however is not limited to Asia, as Sung (2014) shows how K-Pop and its popularity and participatory fan culture have spread quickly beyond Asia and have gained fans in America as well as European countries such as Austria. The dimensions with which K-Pop has spread worldwide within a media environment is noted through studies done by Jin & Yoon (2014) and Jung (2014). Such research show how a wide range of fans from all over the world embrace this Korean pop culture through

Most of the music on the radio today sounds very similar, and even those that sound a bit different still have the same subject matter. It seems that the lyrics to songs don’t matter much in pop culture, judging by the songs played on pop radio that involve sex, drugs, and partying. Those like me who truly have passion for music realize that lyrics are, in fact, important, if not the most important part of a song. Those that are as passionate about music as I am tend to appreciate a song more if its melody is nice and its lyrics are meaningful, rather than one or the other. Most of the overplayed music on pop radio has lyrics that take less deep thinking than adding two plus two. On the other hand, less-popular genres of music, including indie and alternative, two genres much less likely to be found on pop radio, incorporate some of these same themes -- drugs, sex, and partying are still referenced in genres other than pop, and I refuse to lie and tell you all indie and alternative music is completely innocent and wholesome -- it definitely isn’t. But the themes that occur constantly in pop music are translated into these genres in a way that means something far more in-depth. For example, where a song like “We Can’t Stop” by Miley Cyrus blatantly states the lyric “dancing with Molly” and talks about how she and her friends can do whatever they want because they’re high at a party, a song like “The A Team” by Ed Sheeran -- yes, this song does play on the radio, and yes, I do

South Korea is a country with a multi-faceted culture, ranging from K-pop, Korean cuisine, beauty products and Kdramas. Recently Korean culture, also referred to as the KWave, has been expanding around the globe at an exponential rate. As someone who has been invested in the Korean culture for a couple years now, some of my favorite things about it is being able to learn about the culture and geography of South Korea through watching Kdramas and Korean movies. The movies I have chosen for this assignment are: Train to Busan, A Werewolf Boy, A Stray Goat, Tazza: The Hidden Card, and Silenced. In the movies I have chosen to review and compare we get to see a whole lot of the geography of the country, starting from the northern part of South Korea, Seoul, all the way to the southern region of Busan, and also exploring the countryside and other cities like Goseong, Gwangju. In these movies we will see all kinds of geography from physical, economic, cultural, city, rural, and so much more, and how each movie uses and portrays each geographical location to more deep themes like safety, community, memories, and even acceptance. The way I ordered this movies was from my least favorite to my most favorite
