King Edward VIII, known as ‘David’ to the family, was the eldest child of King George V and his wife, Queen Mary of Teck. While growing up, Edward did not have a close relationship with his father which created a lack of sympathy and understanding between the two. Due to their different perspectives, they were not able to relate on issues concerning the Crown as “(King George V was) strict and self-disciplined… who sought to imbue their children with a strong sense of duty”1. Whereas Edward would grow bored of the formalities of royal occasions. Edward to the people, was known for his “easy-going manner and outward-looking personality”2. This made him popular within society as it was seen as a refreshing side to the democratic attitude of the British Royal Family. Edward was called “one of the boys”3 meaning that he was able to relate to the public with ease and had great sympathy for the people and their needs. This was an approach he missed out on during his childhood due to his distant relationship with his parents. Although this was a valuable gift to have at the time, he would make mistakes that would cause conflict between the public and the monarchy. One event that caused un uproar between the two was in November 1936 when King Edward visited South Wales and gave sympathy over unemployed miners. His compassion towards the miners caused great political and economical interference and was referred as an attack on the Conservative economic policy. What makes a king an effective king? Is it how long they rule? No, it is actually the way in which they interact with their subjects. The way they are able to separate the personal from the political, not allowing personal feelings to interfere with his ruling. King Henry the 5th is a perfect example of this. The American Colonies wanted to break away from Britain and they did this by using a waging war. The colonists thought of the King of Britain as an unfit ruler who made poor decisions.
So, It has three days since news passed of the Declaration of Independence and I have been thinking about it since. It was and is still very shocking to hear that the colonies are actually coming through with breaking away from Britain. Here in Boston, King George III has taken away countless rights from us and forced soldiers into our homes. That is just plain wrong and I am more then willing to fight for my freedom in these situations. What do I even have to loose, I am as poor as a church mouse, I have only a few friends and my small family is so far away. How I see it, the people who wrote this Declaration of Independence just want the rights they should have had in the first place.
The church during the 1500’s, was changing greatly. This was the time of the reformation where the protestants took over from the Catholics, and therefore causing the Catholics to create a counter reformation. The shift from henry VIII to Edward VI was also a shift from Catholicism to protestants. This amount of change in religion created an immense change in what music was produced and what was actually composed as these two religions had very different ideas about music.

Let's start with Protestants. The time period I’m going to be talking about was when King Charles V was in charge. King Charles V was the Holy Roman Emperor of Spain and many low countries. While he was ruling, in 1530, many German Princes joined Lutheranism and opposed him. Due to that he became controlling and many others join Lutheranism as well. Charles V waged war on Protestant Germany to try and get control back to the catholic church he did not do so great. But there are some other people who came up with new religions as well, like John Calvin who started Calvinism. Calvin also published a book in 1536 called “Institutes of the Christian Religion” .
