In the movie, King Arthur (2004), I realized that it had some similarities and differences from Myth #1 : The Drawing of The Sword, Myth #2 The Sword Excalibur and Myth #3 How the Round Table Began. One of the main differences in the movie and in none of the myths is why Arthur pulled the sword out of the stone. Arthur pulled the sword out of the stone to save his mother from a burning building but he didn’t make it in time. King Arthur is the son of King Uther Pendragon and Igraine. It all started when King Uther fell in love with Igraine but she had a husband named Gorlois. While Gorlois was at war Merlin made King Uther to look like Gorlois, to be with Igraine. During the times of war Igraine got pregnant of Arthur. Merlin told King Uther and Igraine that it would be best to raise Arthur in a secret place. Merlin took Arthur and gave him to Sir Ector to protect his truth identity. In case of King Uther death Marlin feared the conflicts of who would be the next king so he set a sword on a stone called the Excalibur, written in gold it said "Whoso pulleth out this sword of this stone is the right wise born king of all England.". That meant that only one could pull out the sword of the stone and this one would be the rightful king of England.

Since King Arthurs days on earth their has been an on going debate with no real evidence to prove each side of the argument. People believe that King Arthur was a legend because he was such a heroic warrior. King Arthur had fought in many battles which made him such a heroic warrior along with all of his knights of the round table.

Many know of the epic hero Arthur, but don’t know what it is that makes him so. Though there isn’t one solid story, like Beowulf, there are multiple stories that agree on the same things, such as Arthur’s allegiance to the Knights of the Round table, his companion Merlin, his relationships with his fellow knights, family, and close friends, and the legendary sword Excalibur. When all aforementioned qualities are explained and put together, it can truthfully define Arthur as an epic hero.
