Many schools each year are gradually turning towards the use of school uniforms. Statistics show that 5% of schools worldwide are starting to take use in having school uniforms. I believe that schools should have uniforms because it limits kids to getting bullied, parents don’t have to worry if their kids have name brand clothing or not, and the school doesn’t have to worry about kids dressing inappropriately.
In case, you didn’t know, more than half of the kids who don’t wear uniforms to school get bullied every day. If kids wear uniforms to school it decreases their chance at getting bullied about the clothes they wear. Although most kids don’t like the fact that they have to match every other kid, however, even matching eliminates the chance for you to get bullied. Any

Most kids are late getting to school because they do not know what to wear. If schools get uniforms it will reduce the amount of kids showing late up late to school every day. Also, teachers won’t have to stress about kids wearing inappropriate clothing to school if they have to wear uniforms. Although, kids like to express themselves by the clothes they wear, having school uniforms decreases the chance of kids showing up late to school and dressing inappropriately. If schools who have uniforms came up with a way for kids to express themselves, uniforms wouldn’t be as bad.
All things considered, I think every school should have uniforms. Although, not very many schools have uniforms now, this can be the first of many steps to end bullying, they can help the parents save money, and they will stop kids from dressing inappropriately. After considering all the solutions that can impact your students in positive ways, schools should consider having uniforms. School uniforms can fix many of the problems that students face on a day to day basis although, they don’t let kids express
If schools do so there will w a better learning environment. If schools require uniforms students will not spend as much time laying out their outfits each night. Students would not struggle with self-image as much, since everyone would be wearing the same outfit. Garland states, “Kids from modest backgrounds could stand out because of their personalities and intelligence, rather then being tagged as losers because they can’t wear the season’s hottest sneakers or jeans (621). I agree with Garland not everyone can afford new clothes every season, so if
Having school uniforms greatly decrease one’s way to get bullied. “Perhaps most importantly, a uniform means students don't have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes. When everyone is dressed the same, worrying about what you look like isn't so important. There is no competition about being dressed in the latest trend, which would put a great deal of financial pressure on students and parents. Potential bullies have one less target for their insults; it's hard to make fun of what someone is wearing when you're dressed exactly the same...” (Should Students Have to Wear School Uniforms?). With the same as gang violence, having uniforms does not get rid of bullying altogether. With my experiences in both non-uniform and uniform enforced schools, I saw far less bullying in schools with uniforms. Most of the bullying incidents I have seen are focused on the kid’s appearance due to clothing. Having the uniforms can help students look at each other in a more equal
There are many students that go to school with low self esteems and thinking that they are not as good as others just because of their clothing. This problem could be reduced for many kids with school uniforms. Example a school in southern California made it mandatory for all student “k-8” to where a school uniform. From 1933 to 1995 the conduct had major improvement after going to school uniforms (Riley). That is a fact showing that school uniforms have an impact of student life. Another highly talked about topic is bullying, bullying can come from many things but one of the reasons student pick on other students is because of their clothing. With school uniforms every student will not have to worry about having the name brand clothing which means that puts all students on a level field. So if all kids are dressed the same that would decrease a big problem known as bullying and would also increase students self esteem.
Furthermore, school uniforms have the potential to make schools a whole lot safer. Think of it like this – if you were to see a student walk in wearing an ugly polo shirt and sweat pants, (s)he would probably be picked on just because of what (s)he is wearing. We as humans naturally judge on what we see first, and it’s usually their face / clothing. If school uniforms were implemented in many places, then it would eradicate school violence and students wouldn’t be indignant with each other based on what they wear. Also, since everyone on school grounds is wearing their uniform, it would be easy to pinpoint unwanted visitors and be one step ahead. Not to mention it would help kids with less money evade the bullying and teasing that they would usually receive, which brings me to my next point.
Requiring school uniforms eliminates the chances of bullying. Bullies usually pick on kids based on what they wear. With the use of uniforms, everyone will be wearing the same clothes, not allowing the bullies to pick people out by their choice of clothing. Even those making fun of others would be wearing the same clothes as
Although uniforms cause countless problems, there are some benefits to them. Uniforms discourage crime and increase student safety. Uniforms also keep students focused on their school work. They provide less drama and distraction, and more focus on education. Uniforms save valuable class time because they are easier to enforce than a regular dress code. Therefore, there are some pros to uniforms.
School is a place to learn, grow and acquire the necessary fundamentals to become a productive adult in society. I believe school uniformity create an environment where kids can learn and focus on their education. School uniforms should be required in grades pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade. I recognize that school uniforms create structure and discipline, equality and a sense of belonging amongst each other, and lastly school uniforms are cost effective. There have been many on-going debates for and against school uniforms for years. In the following paragraphs I will support my claims on why school uniforms should be required. In high school back in 1997 our school did not require for us to wear uniforms. Everyone was free to wear what they wanted and school staff was quite lenient with the dress code. Amongst my peers I noticed a lot of kids seem to have no discipline in their life, school was not a priority for them. Our school had a very high drop-out rate, tardies and absences were also high. I believe that if our school would have required the students to wear uniforms, it could have made some type of difference. According to one surveyed parent pro school uniforms, "School uniforms send a signal that school is something to be serious about. I agree with the parents views, because when children have rules and guidelines that they have to follow, that teaches them structure and discipline. In result, the discipline can help guide
Most teenagers think that wearing uniforms is a waste of time and that it shouldn't be mandatory. There are many positive and negative effects but I believe that school uniforms should be mandatory. There are many advantages such as peer equivalency, self esteem, easier for parents, and also stress reducing. There are also some questionable disadvantages such as lack of self expression, demeaning morale, and lack of diversity.
School uniforms are our debate today, I think we should not do school uniforms because in may result in other schools bullying the students in school uniforms. But it also could show violence around the community. Parent’s should get to choose what their child can wear and what they can’t wear. School uniforms a ugly and no kid wants to wear ugly clothes.
In conclusion, it is time for schools to put an end to uniforms, as the negative effects of uniforms heavily outweigh the positive effects. Uniforms are extremely detrimental to adult development, costly, and it lowers students
School uniforms should definitely be used in school systems. Uniforms are both good for schools as well as for the students. Wearing uniforms will help build a sense of unity within the school. Instead of everyone as a separate team, everyone will be in the same team. Wearing uniforms will help free students of the stress of what to wear in the morning. Wearing school uniforms will help improve student individuality and improve their self-esteem.
Another big benefit to having a school uniform is the increase of student safety in multiple things. The first, is the reduction of bullying. This happens at schools with mandatory uniforms because it gives bullies less ammunition. Bullies have less ammunition because social status and wealth are not visible to other students because everyone is wearing the same thing. Another thing more broad than bullying is physical student safety. For example, at a K-8 school system in Long Beach,CA enforced a two year mandatory uniform policy and the results were staggering. Assault reports dropped by 34%. Sex offences got cut by a whopping 74%! Fighting incidents decreased by 51%, and vandalism dropped by 18%. It is crazy to me how much things can improve in just two short years by having kids wear uniforms. One more thing, is that it makes it a lot easier to identify trespassers. I mean think of all the school shootings that have
Regardless of whether the school is private or public, the use of school uniforms should be executed as a way to promote an environment that helps students get the most out of their school education.
Why do we need uniforms? Most student have their own style, but a common argument against school uniforms is that they take away the students right to show their sense of style, creativity and culture. Yes, school uniforms may limit what the students have to wear, but he/she can still have their own ways of self-expression in many forms. Students can still express their style of choice by what shoes they pick, color of the shoe laces, how he or she styles their hair, what accessories they add, jacket they wear or socks; there are many ways. Uniforms are still versatile where they will not be breaking the dress code policy the school has set. Just because a student can’t wear the most latest Polo ,Lacrosse , or Hollister shirt or jeans to school doesn’t mean that his/her rights are taken away. School should be a place where Children come to learn, not to scope out the latest fashion trend. Outside of school, kids can wear and show off their unique sense of style.
School systems have debated for years if they should make school uniforms mandatory for all students. Some parents do not want school systems to mandate uniforms due to pressure from their children to be able to maintain their individuality through clothing, while other parents prefer uniforms to reduce spending money on name brand school clothes and to minimize associations with gangs. More school systems across the United States of America are going to uniforms from grades one through twelve where students are still impressionable by their peers. I believe public schools should require students to wear school uniforms to help parents save money in these hard economic times, to limit the number of incidents of violence in the school systems due to gangs and gang associates such as colors, and to prepare students for the job force after school where some places make it mandatory to wear uniforms to work every day.
