Kevin Link was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and lived the latter half of his childhood in Houston, Texas. In 2010 he graduated from Beloit College with a BA in Studio Art, Rhetoric, and Creative Writing. His artwork explores the relationship between creativity, cognition, and supernatural experience through the mediums of writing, drawing, screenprinting, sound sculpture, acrylic vinyl, plexiglass, light, and sound—often co-opting non-traditional fine art mediums such as blacklight paint as a visual cues for intangible concepts such as the "the otherworldly". The focus of each art series often trend towards specific esoteric subjects, stemming from his lifelong interest in liminal states and neuroscience along with their tenuous relationship …show more content…
With the help of electroencephalography (EEG), neuroscientists have identified six dominant rhythms that our brains produce throughout the spectrum of human experience. Among these is the Theta (4-7 Hz), a curious brainwave pattern that teeters on the edge between the conscious and the subconscious. Through the use of mediation, music, and brain entrainment techniques, each piece in this series was designed in the Theta brainwave state. The majority of our childhood is spent in Theta—a fertile, dreamlike domain of possibility, intuition, and wellspring of imagination. Upon entering adolescence, however, this realm retreats, emerging only to adults during transitional moments—on threshold of wake and sleep, perception and hallucination, conscious action and subconscious fixation. The series presented lends form and contemplation to wanderings through this lost wilderness of the mind. Layer by layer, each shape is drawn, organized, and combined with forms culled from topography, sacred geometry, ink blots, Lichtenberg figures, and fractals to create a bizarre bricolage of the natural and the …show more content…
Multifaceted forms loom frozen in space simultaneously recalling the intricate wetwork of biological systems, celestial bodies in collapse, and occult ideas inflicted upon the land through symbol and symmetry. Each piece attempts to bait the viewer to linger, gaze, and engage in a moment of meditation on the state of their own waking consciousness—and the shadowy abstractions that lurk beneath. This fall, a freshman approached me after cross country practice. Having never met or spoken to her before, she told me that she recognized me from the freshmen class orientation that I had led a few days earlier as a coordinator for Link Crew. She continued to thank me for organizing it and confessed that going through the program I coordinated made her feel at home at the high school, and even inspired her to go out for cross country. Comments like these are what I love and remember most about leading Link Crew, our school’s freshman mentoring program. I strive to spark a passion in those I lead, from the freshman at orientation to the tutoree struggling through math homework. Seeing a face light up with curiosity and excitement makes my
Post and Lintel Construction is made when giant structures are standing upright; these are called the posts. The lintels are the horizontal structures that are placed on top of the posts. The main structural limitations are the lintels cannot be extremely heavy and they have to be well supported by the posts, or else they can fall down. The most popular example that is also in our text is Stonehenge on page 18.
Abstract artist, Rachel Goodyear, created a large scale drawing in her work Restless Guest. Each piece of the artist’s work relates to one another in their use of formal and principal elements of design. Tonal gradations of black and white is a common feature in her works, as well as the use of pencil and watercolor. In most of her abstract pieces she often uses various forms of space and mixed media. Rachel manages to create a push pull relationship within her drawings based on the uniqueness of her expressive

Robert Smithson’s, “Spiral Jetty,” is an example of earthwork art. In Smithson’s 1972 essay, “The Spiral Jetty,” he explains his first impression of the area where he created one of his best earthwork projects. Throughout this essay, Smithson recounts how his work was built and explains some of his artistic intentions behind the piece. Earthwork art is a type of process art that is also related to minimalism due to its nature of the aggressive character and makeup of bold, “unitary” forms. His essay placed a strong emphasis on how the integration of literature and visual art can develop the perception, interpretation, understanding, and sensory experience for viewers.
Time is important when thinking about where a work of art is going to be. If it on a belabored people passing will not be willing to read long messages so using few words to get a point across will work best on a billboard. And for works in museums where people are more willing to stay and interact with works of art, in Jenny Holzers words, "they are reworded," with uncovering a deeper meaning.

The innovative and passionate presence in both Jackson Pollock’s and Wassily Kandinsky avant-garde paintings exemplifies the redefinition of boundaries throughout their art making practices. Both artists challenged traditions both materially and conceptually using innovative and diverse approaches to materials and techniques when painting. Wassily Kandinsky goes against traditions and academies to create vivid, sensual and symbolic large-scale semi abstract expressionist oil paintings in a heightened state of mind. Many artworks of his convey bright and cheerful spontaneous colours that make the audience fully consumed within his works due to hypnotic and distorted semi realist shapes. Consequently, Jackson Pollock also goes against
The use of geometric shapes in this painting allows the subject to be viewed in both a recognizable and unrecognizable state at the same time. Overall, geometric shapes and patterns play an essential role in what the viewer sees, which is further supported by a powerful color palate.
Art is a way that humans use to express their creative, skill, and imagination. For most artists using the world and all other unimaginable things are how they come up with their own work. One example, is Daryl Thetford, who is an amazing artist that makes art out of all kinds of photographs. One photograph is the search for realty, which is of a man sanding on a clock while holding a remote control pointed on a bulletin board full all kinds of photographs. The photograph colors are all light colors, many shapes, and many lines are used in the photograph. The search for realty is a vertical panting that expresses Thetford overview of the world, and how in many things in hid panting we see many evidence of his world view. The way Thetford views
Ellison approached a convoluted concept in chaos and in four paintings titled Off the Wall 1, 2, 3, and 4 was able to exhibit an often overlooked trait of chaos. Through these four paintings Russell Ellison depicted bizarreness. He didn’t do this through strange five-headed monsters, but through an unusual texture. He creates these unusual textures through a process of grinding and cutting the canvases until they really are three dimensional. On top of the texture Ellison employs a randomness in the coloration of the pieces.
Most people recognize the artistry of walls in ancient palaces, of mosaic pictures, and even of honeycombs. Likewise, the artistry and intricacies of M.C. Escher's drawings astound most people. When we look at these objects and artwork we recognize the shapes within them; we see squares, hexagons and other shapes without giving them much thought. We might not even know that these patterns of shapes have a name, and we certainly do not think of mathematics when we see them. But, in fact, these patterns - or tessellations - are part of the field of geometry.
