In the story “Identity” by Julio Noboa Polanco, this author uses one phrase that describes the message and the character's feelings when involved in this problem. “I’d rather be” is the most important phrase in this poem because it portrays multiple things and affects many pieces of feeling and thought. This phrase was not only the most common phrase said in this poem, but it really helped analyze the author's feelings. This poem really talked about how this plant doesn't want to be a lovely flower that gets all the attention and is picked and brought to look nice, this poem is the total opposite. One thing the author talks about the most is that they would rather be, which if someone says this that most likely means they are not happy with what they have or what they are. One example from the text that portrays feeling for this statement is “I'd rather smell of musty, green stench than of sweet, fragrant lilac.” (stanza 5/ line 1 and 2) This is an example of feeling because when you think of flowers you think of healthy and beautiful lovely fragrance flowers and just happy and joyous thoughts. But with this, the author is explaining how different this character wants to be, this “plant” obviously feels like they are all just the same and wants to be different. This can show how the character may feel unwanted or wants to change something for once about it or start something that can change others
