Ever since I can remember I wanted to become a lawyer. I didn't know what exact practice I wanted to do, but I knew belonged in a court room. When I was in middle school, I started the first debate team at my school because I researched and discovered that debating could help me become an effective attorney. My 8th grade year I researched the best high school in the Dallas Independent School District that could prepare me to become a lawyer; that turned out to be Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet. JBS Law Magnet required their students to apply in order to attend. Their application process was rigorous; I had to compile a folder of essays and work I did over the years, write two times essays, and have an interview. After I did all of this, a …show more content…
In order to do so I needed to learn how to be an effective leader. Thus, I ran for National Honor Society President and won the election. This has increased my people skills; I can communicate with officials easier because I am more confident and assertive. This increased my ability to be a problem solver and taught me how compromise. It informed me that other people will have opinions that differ from mine. However, it’s important to listen to them because those different opinions could be better than mine. Other than being National Honor Society President I have had other leadership positions such as creating the year round freshman mentoring program at my school. Taking my idea to an actual successful organization has taught me patience and discipline. This also forced me to plan out every single detail, handle public questions and concerns, and persuade my officials that my plan was worth funding. I created contracts, rules, and guidelines for this mentoring program. Everything I have done has improved my abilities and skills. Every organization I joined, every class I have taken, and every choice I have made has been to achieve my end
Future Business Leaders of America is a fast organization that has taught me a lot about leadership. I have held the office as secretary for our FBLA chapter for two years, and held the position as annual reporter the previous year. Myself and two other individuals created a community service project to raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis; we competed at the state conference in Topeka, Kansas and received first place which qualified us to compete at the national level last summer in Atlanta, Georgia. It was an experience that I will never forget. I have also been a dedicated member of FFA for four years, I have held the position as Class vice president for three years, and I have been a member of National Honor Society for two years. National Honor Society is a service club that gives to the community and school. Service has taught me compassion and understanding. I trust that service is contagious. When people help others it can cause a chain reaction; one good deed leads to another. I enjoy helping others and realizing that I have made a positive impact on an individual’s
A good leader inspires people to better themselves. I feel I am a good candidate for the National Honor Society because I have leadership experiences in refereeing youth soccer games, volunteering in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, and taking Links, which is a class that helps students with autism in their classes. While referring children's soccer games I had to pick and choose the calls that I had to make so the kids could learn the game but also have fun playing the game. Even though some kids didn't like it, I had to be a sense of authority to them to make sure none of them got hurt when playing soccer. When I go to visit my little brother, for the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, I help him with his homework, and also make it fun
Another quality of good leadership is the ability to inspire others, and tutoring kids after school have greatly improved my abilities of
Being involved in everything I do, my leadership skills have developed naturally through experience. I can think creatively and critically and offer advice to others. Through past mistakes and other’s opinions, I have learned to make my failures into successes. Through many organizations and extracurriculars, I have gained many perspectives on various topics. For instance, at BAE Systems, I take part in hands-on learning with other students who are as dedicated as me. This allows me to learn new perspectives in a cooperative environment. We constantly communicate with each other, sharing our ideas on how to solve the task at hand.
My role as president of my high school’s National Honor Society also allowed to demonstrate my worth as a leader. I was in charge of the overall organization of the club, finding more volunteering opportunities
When it comes to leadership the mores experience you have, the high chance of success the team has. National Honors Society is a brilliant program, in which it allows students to take part in programs that have a positive impact on the community. This would help me in the future because with the ability to be a leader I can see what works and what does not. Also with the lessons I learn about leadership I will be able to use it in my future career field. With the experience of being a leader, I can further my career by planning events with museums and exhibits.
I believe I have many leadership skills and experiences. I am currently the Vice President of the Red Cross Club, and the Historian of Club MED. In addition, I have volunteered to be a leader in Vacation Bible School and an assistant in Korean School. Lastly, I act as a leader also in the classrooms assisting students in subjects that I feel confidant. Being a leader allow me to learn many technical skills and improves my communication with others. It required many responsibility and patient. Yet, I suppose being a leader has made me an optimistic
Being a leader is a valuable skill, not just for the National Honor Society, but also for life. Leaders must take initiative and make hard decisions, even when it is difficult. I am one of the leaders of a praise team group for my
I realized I wanted to pursue the legal profession very early on in life. I believe I was in 4th grade or so when I first got the notion to become a lawyer. My father had gotten injured at work and as a result had a worker’s compensation claim against his employer. There were frequent Doctors’ visit, attorney appointments and court appearances of which I would accompany him. What appeared to be every day after school there were a myriad of documents neatly organized on
I am not one of those individuals who realized that a career in the legal field would be their lifelong dream from the age of six or even twelve, or to be honest, after graduating high school. I have been aimless for a majority of my life, and it shows. I chose to major in biotechnology, then after a few semesters, decided to double major in literature. I then went on to become president of an academic society focused on International studies. It was not until I took the course Law and Business in my Sophomore year with Professor Jisoo Lee that I believed I could be nothing else but a lawyer. I was enthralled by what others found tedious and boring, spending every available minute reading case files and figuring out ways to, as my professor
Many leadership experiences have helped me become who I am today from running meetings to teaching showmanship to other members. The 2015-2016 year is the first year I have held the position of president in my clubs, and I am currently president of 5 clubs. I have grown so much already just by leading meetings and putting the learning activities together. I have been able to put agendas together as well as picking which learning activity we are participating in at each meeting,
After a big snow fall we all went to each others grandparents and shoveled their driveways and sidewalks. When we finished we all went to go fishing together but before we were going to go, we got a phone call asking if we could go help our grandparents friends out. With this service in particular I learned to go above and beyond what was asked of me,even though I wanted to fishing. The quality I learned from this was having initiative to help people. This quality I believe should be found in all leaders and was happy to learn and experience it while helping out someone in
In middle school I realised that I had a passion for leading and got into Leadership. Since sixth grade, I knew I wanted to run for ASB president in eighth grade. The time finally came around for elections and I poured all my time and energy into campaigning, and working towards my goal of being president. There were two spots for ASB president because one was needed for each of the periods of Leadership, while me and two other girls were running. I remember being in sixth period waiting for them to announce the winners of the election, so nervous that I could not focus on the math problems in front of me. Finally they announced the winners and I was not one of them. My heart sank, I had put weeks of effort into this and I had devoted all my time to it, yet I had lost. Choking back tears and trying to look like the results did not upset me, I walked all the way to the car. Finally I got to the car, unable hold back my tears anymore, I let them flow freely. My family consoled me and although it took me a while, I realised that I had to keep going on and improve myself. I had an epiphany realising that it did not matter if I got knocked down in life, I had to just keep going, so I practiced my speaking skills and gained more experience as a leader the next year. Then, once freshman year started, I knew I had to run for class office, so I ran again, knowing that if I lost I could keep going on, and realising that through running in seventh grade I got my name out there, allowing people to realise that I was serious. Through all the times of risking my reputation and going out of my comfort zone I learned how to lead, be brave, and not worry so much about what others think of
From when I was ten until I was fifteen, I wanted to become a lawyer. I’ve always had impressive public speaking skills, a persuasive personality, and a knack for debate, so it seemed like the perfect fit for me. However, upon a taking a law class my sophomore year, I realized that lawyering might not be exactly what I expected it to be. As I learned about the different laws and the complexities of the court system I was
Since the eighth grade I have known I wanted to be a lawyer. I have also known that becoming a lawyer meant commitment and dedication and being able to manage your time wisely. I have learned to manage my time wisely and I am dedicated and committed, but I have no idea where to start. Being apart of the High School Law Institute will show me where I need to begin in order to achieve my goal. Also the program will give me a better understanding of law itself and the long journey I plan to embark on. Furthermore it will teach me about what I need to expect when I am applying for colleges and what schools I should apply for. I say this program will teach me these things because neither one of my parents attended college and the three relatives
