McCarthyism by definition is the action of making accusations of disloyalty with inadequate evidence to support. This idea was introduced by Senator Joseph R. McCarthy and was a vital aspect in the U.S during The Cold War.

Throughout 1950 to 1954, the people of the United States of America were terrified of the spread of communism. This was greatly known as “The Red Scare”. During this era, a key person by the name of Joseph R. McCarthy (a republican senator of Wisconsin) started the supposed “remedy” of the Red Scare or an add-on to the famous Containment Policy.

McCarthy not only started the political witch-hunt, but also encouraged it and put it in the eyes of the people. In the article it states, “In hearing after hearing, he aggressively interrogated witnesses in what many came to perceive as a blatant violation of their civil rights. Despite a lack of any proof of subversion, more than 2,000 government employees lost their jobs as a result of McCarthy’s investigation.”(www.history.com/mccarthyism) Similar to how the Salem Witch were based on fear in the community, unproven accusations, and the finding of anyone guilty without fair trials, the McCarthy Hearings were also based on unproven accusations, finding anyone guilty who refused to confess, as well as propaganda and fear. Joseph R. McCarthy started a devious game that gave Americans relief but the innocents within the country dread. Everywhere you went, every little step you took, one sign and an accusation is made. The impact of McCarthy caused people to accuse others of being communists without sufficient evidence and to some, it was like playing a little game. No one knew who to trust or who to follow. It formed turmoil and bad relationships between people in society. Furthermore, many of the innocents accused lost their jobs, were shunned from society, and were questioned or investigated. No, because the reason why the U.S was in war with Vietnam was to try to stop the spread of communism. 2.8 million Vietnamese and 58,000 Americans would not have been killed, among many millions of others. And would there have actually been a Cold War? No, because the reason why U.S was at war with the Soviets was because U.S wanted to stop communism from spreading. We were very loyal to our Containment Policy which were numerous of strategies to prevent the spread of communism. These two wars wouldn’t have happened if McCarthyism didn’t
