José Julián Martí y Pérez better known as Jose Marti accomplished and was known for many things in his short lifetime. He did many things such as a revolutionary philosopher, translator, professor, poet, journalist, and publisher. He helped organize and was a leader of the Cuban Independence movement from spain. Even though he never lived to see Cuba free of Independence, he is considered the national hero. Thorough writings and political activity Marti became the face for Cuba’s independence against Spain. José was born in Havana on January 28, 1853. At a young age he traveled to Spain, Latin America, and the United States spreading his thoughts and in support of Cuban independence. Marti grew up in a family with little money and was the oldest of eight. To earn extra money his sisters would sew and José would help his father with his paperwork for his job. He was well educated and by the time he was 15 he had several published poems. Marti’s teachers noticed how well he was at writing and helped him alot. They were poor and owned few slaves. It was a small cotton plantation with a big family so the slaves had to work extra hard. In 1891 a boy named Rafael Trujillo was born by a middle aged family in San Cristobal on October 24, 1891. Another thing was that he was one of 11 children and was the third of them all. When he started growing up Trujillo wanted a job so what he decided to do was go and take a job as a Telephone Operator at the age of 16 years after attending a formal elementary school and a private middle school. So after he had his job for a little while Trujillo decided to forge a check from his family bank and because of that he lost his job and also was served time in jail. This celebration started off 2500-3000 years ago that was created by ancestors of Indigenous nations to commemorate the death of their family members. This celebration has dated back from an Aztec festival for the goddess Micteccachihualti and has become a national symbol for the nation. The Mciteccachihualti was a queen of the dead in which the people of this time used skull as the Mayan and Aztec traditions. The origins of the day of the dead begins in ancient Mesoamerica cultures and arrives in Mexico in the early 1500s. The skeleton images are associated with this holiday, such as Calaveras made with sugar and decorated with bright colors that establish a unique Mexican style of art. The skeleton was used to represent the dead playfully ridiculing the living in ancient rituals. The day of the dead is celebrated on November 1st. on this day we commemorate the deaths of the infants or children who passed away and on November 2nd. It is referred to commemorate all adults who passed away.

He didn’t like school as a child because he heard many wretched, racist comments; he also saw signs that said, “Whites Only” One of the worst parts was that Spanish was verboten at his school. If a student got caught violating that rule, they were hit on the knuckles with via a ruler. That was was very unfortunate, considering that he only spoke Spanish at his house. In eighth grade he left school to support his family by working in the fields. He did this on behalf of his father getting in an accident, no longer able to work.
