Two artists called Sue and Johnsy share an apartment in a community for artists, which gets invaded by a deadly and vindictive disease that spreads and kills many of the members in their community. Johnsy gets infected, gives up any hope of survival, and pins her destiny to one remaining leaf on a vine. A physician tells Sue, Johnsy’s best friend, that her best friend’s chance of survival is slim to none unless she can find something to hope for. After a violent storm, Johnsy looks out and sees the last leaf still intact on the vine. Johnsy decides she still wants to live, and she figures there must be a reason that the leaf she pinned her destiny on did not drop off, even during a storm. Johnsy later finds out that a kind old man called Mr.
What if your best friend went on an adventure. They had everything they had ever wanted. They didn't tell you or their family where they were going or how long they would be gone. They just picked up and left. Would you respect their decision to not tell anyone their plans? Would you think that this was a good idea of theirs, or would you think that this was a stupid decision on their part? Well this is what Christopher McCandless did. In 1968 McCandless was born. He was born to a good, wealthy, and happy family. He had everything any child could ever wish for. He was smart, athletic, and had a good education. In June 1990 he completed collage. In July of 1990 Christopher McCandless left his family and almost all belongings, and didn't tell anyone where he was going, or how long he'd be gone. Three years later McCandless was found dead in a blue bus located in Alaska. He had died of starvation. He went off and, ¨lived his life.¨ McCandless went out and lived in the wild. While Christopher McCandless died peacefully, the question has arose on whether McCandless was a noble adventurer or an arrogant fool. The evidence from many stories and social media clearly states that McCandless was in fact an arrogant fool. Christopher McCandless was an arrogant fool because he was not prepared, he
When you see yourself living out your dream, the thought of what you're most passionate about pulls you in. Passions in one's life change based on what had affected that person. Dreams are defined to change. However, the benefits of these thoughts is that they belong to you and only you. Not one person's opinions matter but your own. Chris McCandless simply was living out his own ideal life, the way he wanted; not to the idea of his parents, his friends or of society. McCandless wanted to escape society and civilization which he felt was tying him down, while also trying to discover himself. McCandless is not by any means a wacko. He was simply defying society and its ideal expectation it holds upon us as a whole.

In March 1857, one of the most controversial events preceding the Civil War occurred. Dred Scott, and his wife had once belonged to army surgeon John Emerson, who bought him from the Peter Blow family of St. Louis. After Emerson died, the Blows apparently helped Scott sue Emerson’s widow for his freedom, but lost the case in state court. Which was because Mrs. Emerson left him with her brother John Sanford. Whose name was misspelled in court papers. He was a New York citizen. Scott sued again in federal court, claiming Missouri citizenship. Scott’s lawyers eventually appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Johnson was right in wanting Reconstruction to be simple and meet a minimum test of loyalty. The country won’t agree on everything so why have a full exam on loyalty? We took an oath to the Union and Constitution, rewrote our state constitutions, and got rid of what our entire economy survived on just because you thought it was bad. Isn’t that enough? So our state government shouldn’t be taken away. We never gave up our right to govern ourselves, and the President agrees the federal government has no right to determine questions at our state level. He cares about us, giving Presidential pardons, even to us Southern plantation owners, allowing state government to be reestablished and accepted, and giving our rights back. But not Congress.
The World Anti-slavery convention, this is where many abolitionists met at Exeter Hall in London. This convention was formed because of the common goal to end slavery. (Hollitz, Contending Voices, 161) Many didn’t want slavery to end but the people who did come were people intent on stopping human bondage(slavery). Many women and men came to this convention but the females and men were not allowed to sit together and the women were not allowed to speak for themselves. This convention humiliated many women that came that day and made many determined for women equality. (Hollitz, Contending Voices, 161)
The civil war did reduce sectional antagonist a huge amount but it also made the United states One Nation. The war was a test for the nation or in this case ANY nation for those dedicated to see if they could endure and a final resting place for those who died and for the nation to live. There was division between the north and the south which eventually brought upon the Brutal Civil War. In president Andrew John’s Amnesty proclamation, the Union forgave the confederate and made them swear on an oath to faithfully support, protect, and defend the constitution of the United States. “The union eventually showed that they had no “antagonist” against the south which made the United States One nation once again. The soldiers that risked their lives

Maria was scared of Jawanna and did everything she told her to do. For an example when Jawanna wanted Maria’s brownie she gave it to her, even though Maria wanted it for herself. Jawanna had basically owned Maria. Once when Maria only had one pencil she gave it to Jawanna just because she asked for it. Jessica, Maria’s friend tried to convince Maria to stick up for herself or the bullying would never stop. After Maria thought about it and a talk with Ms. McMillan she said enough is enough. The next day on the school’s playground Jawanna had came to Maria and said that she needed to do her homework for her. Maria then told Jawanna that she didn’t have to time to do her homework or anything else for her again. From that day forward, Maria
People judge others through stereotypical analysis, where untrue, negative thoughts about a person are based on precedent assumptions. The Youngers’ faced these issues when trying to move into a predominantly white neighborhood called Clybourne Park. The family was alienated by the neighborhood in multiple ways. In one particular way, the community board thought that the Youngers’ would make the predominately white, upper-middle-class neighborhood unclean because of them being the only black family to move into the neighborhood. There were times when the Younger family received unwelcoming looks and unfriendly responses from their neighbors. These types of accusations were morally wrong but not unusual for this era. To properly get an analysis
Before the Shapley-Curtis Debate most people were under the impression that the sun was the center of the galaxy, and the universe. Most people couldn’t grasp the idea that there was a bigger world in space beyond our planet, the sun and our moon. While we saw stars in the night sky, the idea that our universe was as vast and complex as it is seemed unreasonable. In 1920, Harlow Shapley showed just how vast the Milky Way was. However Shapley did not believe that there was anything more to our universe than our galaxy. He believed that because it was so big that nothing else could possibly be out there. His opponent, Heber Curtis, argued that the Milky Way galaxy was not as big as Shapley said, but that he believed that there was more to the universe than just our galaxy.
