The motto of Johns Hopkins University, in English, means “The truth will set you free.” Although originally a quote from the Bible, it is essentially a quote that promotes academic freedom and the importance of learning. To me, this is what makes Johns Hopkins so unique and perfect for me. It will allow me to continue my current interests while simultaneously broadening the scope of who I am as a person.
Outside of just the academic aspect of Johns Hopkins, the location in the heart of Baltimore will allow me to continue exploring my interest in community service while also giving me insight into a new culture that is vastly different than what I can experience in Colorado. From the Walters Art Museum to the National Aquarium and the Baltimore Orioles, there is no question that Baltimore has an astounding cultural diversity that I am eager to take part in.
However, the allure of Johns Hopkins inside the classroom is even stronger. As a prospective student looking to major in physics, there is no better choice of schools than the Johns Hopkins School of Arts and Sciences. The ability to opt for a BA or a BS degree in physics will allow me to choose whether or not I want a general physics education or a more concentrated one. This is an extraordinary

No school in the country gets more research funding than Johns Hopkins, and as a result no other university would be able to provide me with as many incredible research opportunities. Although I am excited by the opportunity to learn new and fascinating information inside the classrooms of Johns Hopkins, my true passion lies in doing research during college. I have always been intrigued by mystifying concepts such as general relativity, dark matter, and black holes. The learning atmosphere at Johns Hopkins University will encourage me to pursue these mysterious subjects by working on research with the brilliant minds of professors and other
Last May, I traveled with Alternative Breaks to New York for community service. During this service, I worked with Meals on Wheels who dedicate their time to provide food for the elderly of Manhattan. As I delivered the food to the seniors, I got a sense of fulfillment because I made them smile by providing them with food. Thus, I chose MDC’s Single Stop because I wanted to make a difference in my home campus by providing and assuring nourishment to those that do not have it just like I did in New York. As my first two years of college comes to an end, I wanted to leave a mark of my own here at home at Miami Dade College North Campus. During the month of September, I decided to partner up with a few of my peers to serve at MDC’s Single Stop.
I am interested in being a part of the Camp MD program because I really love the medical field and I want to make new friends there who share the same thought towards the medical field as me. Anything and everything medical related has always been so fascinating to me ever since I was a little kid. It has had my eye because my family was always at the hospital dealing with surgeries, chemo treatments, and illnesses. And I thought it was cool how the doctors were able to help those who were sick and dying. In school, I have taken a medical terminology class in order to help get me started with the medical field, and next year I will be taking an anatomy and physiology class along with a CNA class to help pay for schooling. I am wanting to become
I am applying to the MD/MPH program after experiencing four years of undergraduate coursework to receive a degree in public health. The coursework as an undergraduate greatly drew my interest to things such as epidemiology, microbiology, environmental health, and global health. I was introduced to the importance of population health and preventative care, as well as the social aspects of health and the disparities stratified across populations. I believe that the rigorous undergraduate coursework I completed exemplifies my competence in terms of public health and suitability as a candidate for an MPH. I also had opportunities to have real-world experience related to public health, more specifically I have worked as an infectious epidemiology
It is without a doubt, attending Rutgers University brings prestige to your name, and distinguishes you from the competition. With over two hundred and fifty years of rich history, Rutgers has been proudly represented by alumni as they continue into their career paths. Dating back to 1766 when Rutgers was first established, notable Rutgers alumni through the years have ranged from politicians such as Elizabeth Warren or Chris Christie to businessmen like David Stern, or even athletes such as Carli Lloyd. It is without a doubt, that Rutgers provides exceptional education as seen through what these alumni have been able to achieve. It is due to the combination of history and high level of education that I believe will help me achieve my career goals.
I would love to be a part of Central Michigan's athletic training program. I have a deep love and passion for sports. After High School I would still want to be in the sports field and I also like caring for people which would make Athletic training the field for me. I am currently a captain on my basketball and track team. I make others around me better and take on the role of being a leader. My goal is to graduate and get my degree. After that I envision myself being a strength and conditioning coach or an athletic trainer. I want to be a good athletic trainer at a college or pro level.
I chose NDSU because I feel like I was pretty well acquainted with the campus during my time in high school. Each summer, for FFA, my chapter, along with others from across the state, spent a week here competing in different agricultural competitions. Also, I talked with alumni from this nursing program, and they all said it was set up very well, and also put them on a track to getting a good job afterwards. When I came for a tour earlier this spring, I got to hear a speech from the Dean of nursing, and I just sort of felt like this was the right place. On a side note, I like being here because of the agricultural side of NDSU as well, even if I’m not necessarily going into a field pertaining to it. It seems more like home to me, when the person next to me, going into Vet Tech, rides horse as much as I did.
As a former college athlete and the daughter of a veteran, I was always infatuated with the idea of staying physically fit. However, when I began working as a medical scribe at a Family Medicine clinic and interacting with many patients living with a pattern of chronic illnesses such as Diabetes Mellitus and Coronary Artery Disease, I realized that many people did not share these same ideas and passion for physical activity and disease and injury prevention. Talking to these patients and their families, I realized that most of their diseases were life threatening and costly, yet what if these patients had taken steps to prevent their illnesses through exercise and diet, would heart disease still be the leading cause of death in the U.S. today? If we could lessen tobacco prevalence,
Since the 8th grade, I’ve known I wanted to be a student at Howard University. Howard University has cleared every major specification that I so very looked for in school in a way no other school could ever. From the moment I stepped on campus the beginning of my junior year, I knew this was the place that I would be able to thrive and inherently become a better “Me”. Howard exudes a certain liveliness that attracts me… Whether it’s the prestige and notably, the mass opportunities presented to all of its students, or the noticeable ambition that exude off each student; I Matthew Smith want to be part of it.
Statement of Purpose There are several reasons that Johns Hopkins University is my school of choice. According to the U.S. News & World Report, JHU is one of the 10 Best Universities in the United States and one of the top 20 Best Value Schools. In addition, JHU’s public affairs program is ranked at 34 in the nation. I also love that Johns Hopkins is a member of the AAU, and I am a huge fan of the Big Ten Conference, so I find it exciting that JHU is part of the Big Ten for lacrosse. I admire many JHU alumni, as their success in their careers and personal lives speaks to the quality of education that they received.
First and foremost - my life is dedicated to the service of others. Through my time serving as Parkwood Beta President and the State President of the North Carolina Beta Club, I have understood the importance of a servant’s heart. I have had the honor of being Student Body President and Class President here Parkwood, and during my tenure I provided vital assistance and planning to events that included, Spring Fling, Winterfest, Powderpuff, Teacher Appreciation Week, dances, pep rallies; and, simple facilitation and leadership within the PWHS Student Council at large. Moreover, I have had the great opportunity of serving on the Executive Board of the PTSO for a few years now and served as the student liaison between the PTSO and the school. I had the honor of assisting with the Parkwood Pride 5K,
I come from a small rural town nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. My hometown is split down the middle by a set of railroad tracks. On the north side, one can find pristine neighborhoods, newer schools, most doctors’ offices, and the only hospital in town. The south side of the town stands as a stark contrast. On the south side, you no longer find the wealthy neighborhoods but rather dilapidated and condemned homes and housing projects. One seems to find abandoned buildings on every corner, many inhabited by those that have lost their homes. Limited help is coming for those who need it, mostly through churches and volunteer programs targeting the underserved. Many doctors, dentists, and nurses are giving their time and resources to help
Being enrolled at NOVA (Northern Virginia Community College) was a choice made out of necessity. Coming to the states from Malaysia resulted in a lot of my previously earned University credits becoming worthless. Also due to the staggeringly high currency rate, which is 4MYR to 1USD financial feasibility was also an issue when contemplating the choice of an institution.
Diverse; despite the fact that Salve is a small Catholic university but I was able to learn so much about diversity and the true meaning of it. My journey at Salve helped me engage in different opportunities where I experienced the real meaning of it and how significant it is to make our world a better place. Whether through the classes that Salve offered, different events and festivals, the welcoming community itself or the variety of internships and volunteer opportunities that Salve connected me with, I was able to realize and understand the true meaning of Salve’s mission that revolves around love, respect and acceptance of
I have always had an interest in science, especially in the sciences regarding outer space. When I was younger I was always fascinated with rockets, and especially in stars. I have often regretted not pursuing this interest at its infancy. I do remember going to the Planetarium, and studying about a topic that I had seen talked about on television. The topic was black holes, and back then all that they knew was that they were black. The idea of a space in the universe that is completely void of light was difficult to imagine. Recently, I have learned more about this topic and a science call cosmology. I had never even heard of this field of science before I was introduced to a scientist by the name of
The unique mechanics of patterns and paradigms which unites and divides us as part of the human race is something that has always appealed to me. India is a country that lives in multiple eras at the same time. It is my homelands unique diversity and ethos which encouraged me to incline towards Liberal Arts. Given my education background in media and communication I see changing dynamics of culture due to globalization. Which needs to be understood, preserve and critiqued as it has the ripple effect world over. Understanding and sharing knowledge has always come naturally to me given my desire to explore and research in Liberal Arts I see myself in academia in the future. Humanities is very important for deliberating the human race as it encompasses fields such as literature, arts, philosophy and religion these are subject that even STEM(science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) need the perspective of to serve the human kind better. An M.A. program at John Hopkins would be the perfect place to help me realize my full potential, thereby holding me in good stead for a career in academia.
