This quote struck out to me because it really emphasized Johnny’s courage to accept the inevitable possiblity of death and learn as much as possible until that day arrived. He tried very hard to do all that he could with a malignant tumor and he managed to write a letter to Albert Einstein and receive a reply, catch up on all his schoolwork, graduate, perform numerous science experiments, and eventually get accepted into Harvard. Although my situation is much less serious than Johnny’s, I find myself constantly relating to this quote. There is always a seemingly endless task of things to do, whether it be for school, sports, music, etc and just not enough time to do it before a certain deadline comes. In Johnny’s case, he was determined to fulfill as many of his goals as he could before his unfortunate deadline arrived. …show more content…
I enjoy reading quotes in my spare time and have read a lot of quotes on death. However, this one stands out as a more interesting quote about death. I completely agree with it as well, because as one approaches death, they are forced to face and analyze their life, their choices, their mistakes, etc. It also allows the close friends and family of the deceased to ponder on the meaning of life and death. Death is the shining gate to life and it should not be feared or dreaded. Johnny’s main wish was to do some good in the world, help humanity, and live a good life. In his “Unbeliever’s Prayer”, Johnny stated that God would motivate him to continue fighting. This quote, along with a few others, was what made me admire Johnny’s courage and compassion. I think it was very inspirational quote, even to a non-believer, about morality and life. Johnny believed that God was the good in him and his goal was to use the good inside of him, given by God, to help
Because of Dallys words to Johnny, he is a hero. This quote explains how Dally really cares about Johnny. Dally doesn't show this amount of love to the other gang members; it is mainly geared to Johnny. If any other of the gang members stood up to what Dally said to them, they were gonna get hit or bad mouthed by Dally. This was not the case for Johnny, when they went to the drive-in theater Dally was talking to Cherry in a bad way and Johnny stood up for her.
What would you do if you had the chance to get back at someone who has wronged you? Would you do something that could ruin their life or would you turn the other cheek and forgive them and not do anything? In the novel Johnny Tremain, Johnny, a fourteen year-old prideful boy, is an apprentice for a silversmith. He is a hard worker, gifted and clever in the work that he does and holds it over the heads of the two other apprentices. He bosses them around constantly, is always getting on to them for the work they do, do not do, or do not do well enough, and never says a kind word even if they did finally do something right. All in all, Johnny was not pleasant to be around most of the time. When Johnny’s hand is burned, he is forced to find a new way to
The next hero was Johnny Cade. Johnny Cade was a hero because of his actions and he fits my versions of a hero, my vision of a hero is someone who is brave , strong and willing to do something that normally someone wouldn't do something brave or dangerous. Johnny really fits my version of a hero because he went into a burning church when he did not have to but did and saved little kids that would have died. Johnny’s response was “ there life is worth more than mine, they have more to live for. The quotes means it was worth saving those kids even though he had to die.
Johnny does not have the best life, yet he seems content with it. He comes from an unwealthy family, his dad drinks too much, he lives in a poor neighborhood, and he did not finish school. Yes, his life could be better; however, he remains satisfied with the food he eats and the clothes on his back. He seems to be a good person who is loving, responsible, and empathetic. However, reading between
Johnny's home life was horrible, and he was always scared to go home. He was in constant fear after the “Socs” beat him up, which is one reason Johnny had killed Bob. He was terrified his friend would die and wanted to protect him, with what we know. When Johnny was saving the little kids from the church fire, it shows that he wants to protect people and is willing to risk his life to help save others, no matter the cost. Just because Johnny suffers severe abuse and most people turn into abusers when growing up in a house like that doesn't have to make him one of those people.
Hanna Mann 27 October, 2015 Period Three Timorous Hero Heroes are often thought of a person who is idolized for courage and noble deeds. This characterization is not always the case however, heroes are not habitually dauntless. In S. E. Hinton’s book The Outsiders Johnny Cade is recognized for these traits. Johnny Cade has a tanned face with jet black eyes and hair and is known for being small yet having a slight build.
However, Johnny felt that his life was worth the sacrifice to save the children. This is shown in the text on page 178 when Johnny says, “It’s worth it”. It’s worth saving those kids! Their lives are worth more than mine, they have more to live for” (Hinton). Johnny grew up in a home with abusive and neglectful parents, but he didn’t let that take away from his kindness and positivity like it might have done to others in the same situation.
After being escorted by the police to the hospital me and Ponyboy dashed with excitement to Johnny’s room. Before we could get even an inch in the door the doctor stopped us in our tracks. The doctor said “he is dying”. Before I could think I pulled out two-bit's switchblade. I wasn't going to let some punk doctor keep me from seeing my friend. Instead of what I thought the doctor was going to do he let us see Johnny.

Dally wanted to die because johnny had died from the beam that had fallen on him when he was trying to help the little kids. Had he of not gone in the burning house he probably would have lived. But knowing Johnny he had to help. So all in all he died while trying to save someone in a house, burning with hot scorching flames that would probably burn anything in its way. I think he forgot to think about that he didn’t have to die right then to be with Johnny to know that he could be with him because Johnny would always be with him even though while in heaven. He was mainly focused on the fact that his best pal was now gone and somewhere where he could not see him at the time. So he committed suicide by going to a gas station and robbing the
While Johnny lay on his deathbed he writes his final act of heroism. In Johnny’s last breaths, he writes a letter to Pony. Pony read the letter from Johnny, “It’s worth saving those kids. There lives are worth more than mine, they have more to live for” (Hinton 178). Basically, he said saving the kids was worth the pain, and that he feels that their lives are worth more than his. This act of heroism shows that Johnny is not afraid of dying and he is willing to save others even if he doesn’t personally know
The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.” (Mark Twain). This quote from the famous American writer is the basis for what became one of the hardest ideas to comprehend, death. Death has always been a complex term, causing one to struggle with what the true definition is. It is also hard to wrap your mind around what does it truly mean to die. These are the questions we long for the answer. Whether we acknowledge it or not, death has always been feared by many. Death remains an impossible question, one that has been unexplained since beginning of time. Even though dying is a natural, we as a human race still fear it. What can be done to defeat this never-ending battle? According to Montaigne’s “To Philosophize is to Learn to Die” and Cory Taylor’s “Questions for Me About Dying” we can overcome this by living to the fullest, living with no regrets, living a legacy, and lastly not fearing the inevitable. If you want to conquer the question of life, live in the moment.
“Johnny Got His Gun” by Dalton Trumbo is a story of a man, Joe Bonham, who is in a hospital after suffering multiple injuries that alone would be considered life-threatening. His life is forever altered by his injuries and it appears that for the rest of his life he will be trapped in a hospital with nobody listening to him and strangers surrounding him that he cannot form bonds with because of the disabilities he now has. Joe is trapped, alone, with only his thoughts surrounding himself and is living a life constantly switching between memories and reality that at many times he does not even know if he is living his real life or is just trapped in a vivid dream. All of these injuries, mental problems, and disadvantages stemming from these
During the book, The Outsiders, Johnny was represented as a hero. One of the signs pointing to this was when he showed responsibility. On page 95, Johnny wanted to take responsibility and turn himself into the police. He also wanted to do this because he cared about Ponyboy and his brothers. Although this did not happen due to the fire, Johnny showed another heroic trait. He showed bravery by jumping into the burning church with Ponyboy to save the kids inside. You can see in the middle of chapter six, Johnny even broke his back attempting to rescue the children. Lastly, Cade showed humility while in the hospital. In the letter he wrote to Ponyboy, Johnny said, “It’s worth saving those kids. Their lives are worth more than mine, they have more to live for.” Hinton showed the readers that Cade was a real hero through the entire story.
