John Proctor, Mary Warren, and Reverend Hale are dynamic characters, because they undergo change that affects their life. A dynamic character is someone who changes drastically. During the Salem Witch Trial these character will experience events that will change their personality and motives.
John Proctor is a strong and confident during the witch trials. He is an uncompromising character never falling into Abigail’s tricks. Proctor regrets his affair his with Abigail and tells his wife Elizabeth. Proctor becomes desperate after he tells his wife. While in jail Proctor becomes determined to get the truth out about the girls and Abigail. Proctor admits he the court his affair with Abigail saying “God is Dead!’(Miller 199). When Proctor says that it convinces the court he is possessed and they accuse him of witchery. Proctor jeopardizes his reputation in town. In jail he begins to compromise his integrity and manhood. He finds the only way to gain back respect is to admit to the accusations, and lets the church hang him. Regaining back respect as Hale predicted.

Mary just wants to fit in with the girls and Abigail. Mary especially wants to meet Abigail’s needs. Mary start acting out with the girls becoming disobedient to proctor during the witch trials. Mary says she is an adult because she on trial and she looks at it as a mature moment in her life. Proctor eventually gets her to realize why she must go to the court, admit to the lies, and show the girls have put on.
