John Paul Jones's Impact On The World

. The captain and ranking mate died of yellow fever. John Paul Jones did not hesitate to take the captain position and lead the ship back to the port safely. His early training gave him the confidence and ability to take the role of captain and he was successful. After that heroic feat by John Paul Jones he was promoted as Captain. He then lead two trips to the West Indies. On a voyage in 1770 John Paul Jones flogged a sailor who later died. This lead to his arrest and imprisonment, but later he was released. This incident put a damper on his young and flourishing career. A few years later he prevented a mutiny by killing the crew’s ringleader in self-defense. Unlike the earlier incident John Paul Jones decided to flee to Frederick, Virginia to avoid trial in  Federal Court. These two events shaped him, but he did not quit. John Paul Jones was born July 6, 1747 in Scotland. At age Thirteen he apprenticed with a merchant and went to sea. Over the next Fourteen years he was sailing on merchant ships. At the age of Twenty-one he was a captain of a merchant ship. In 1769 he had whipped a man to death. He was put in jail but later freed. In 1773 he had put down a mutiny and killed the ring leader in the process. He fled to America to avoid trial.

John Paul Jones was originally born in Scotland with the name John Paul. After he had had been cleared for the murder of a seaman under his command, he killed another mutinous sailor. When he fled to America, he attached Jones to the end of his name (Colbert 104).

John Nevin Andrews was born in Portland Maine July 22, 1829. As a child he loved to read books and he remain engrossed in his books even when other children were playing. At the age of eleven, he quit school and was self-taught. Later, he became fluent in seven different languages and could recite the New Testament by memory. His uncle Charles who was a member of the U.S. Congress encouraged John to become a lawyer. John had the qualities and ability to become a lawyer, but God other plans for him.

Jones Very was an American Transcendentalist poet and Christian mystic. He was born in August 28, 1813, in Salem, Massachusetts to a long line of seafarers, his father a ship's captain. Very was a friend of Emerson and Hawthorne and is best known for his intensely devout religious sonnets describing the nature of the "will-less existence" which he attempted to live and publicize in the late 1830s.

Jim Jones did a lot that seemed good in his life (Merlot). He worked with people of all different backgrounds to make their lives better and wanted to solve social problems. He spoke against the racist stereotype of the white man and towards the new idea of a united racial group. Jones also did a lot of bad in his life. Jim Jones was the craziest religious fanatic to live during the 20th century because he brainwashed most of his followers, abused his power, and led the largest mass murder for that decade in a single event.

His evaluation of Jim Jones is interesting due to the fact that he had all these reasons to not follow him but since no one else said anything, Odell wasn't able to stand up for what he believed in much like many of the other survivors. John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940 in the town of Liverpool, England. His parents are Julia and Alfred Lennon. He is named John Winston Lennon after his grandfather, and prime minister, Winston Churchill. He mostly lived with his mother because his father was always traveling as a merchant seaman. John’s aunt almost took custody of him, but then his father came home and made John pick between living with his father or mother. His decision was to live with his father but when he saw how upset his mother got he then ran up to her and his final decision was made. After that decision it would be 20 years till he had contact with his father again. Most of John’s childhood was spent living with his aunt and uncle, Mimi and George Smith. They had no kids themselves so they took pride in raising John. His mother, Julia, would come to visit regularly, and at the age of 11 taught him how to play the banjo. Jean-Paul Charles Aymard Sartre is arguably the best known philosopher of the twentieth century. He was born in Paris France on June 21st in the year 1905, and died on April 15th 1980 at age 74. He was a French philosopher, novelist, literary critic, playwright, political activist and biographer. Jean-Paul attended the École Normale Supérieure from 1924-1929 and became the professor of philosophy in 1931 at Le Havre. He is a well known figure in the philosophy of Essentialism and Phenomenology, along with being one of leaders in French Philosophy and Marxism. In the year 1964 Sartre was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature but declined the offer as he believed that “A writer should not allow himself to be turned into an institution” (”Announcement.”) This showed just how much integrity Jean-Paul had for himself.
