Over the summer, I had the opportunity to work as a Management Trainee Intern at Enterprise Rent-A-Car at the home-city branch located in Kona. Enterprise Rent-A-Car is a management career, where each employee can advance from within. The branch office is on the second floor of the building and the rental cars are lined up on the ground floor, which made it easier for employees and customers to window shop from inside. Inside the office has tons of space for customers to rest and place their luggage(s), and the desks were hidden from sight behind a divider. Enterprise Rent-A-Car is a family business owned by the Taylor family. The Taylor family created a business that brought opportunity for all people, to build and grow a career, create friendships and leadership skills, and most importantly to have fun.
All employees are full of eagerness and enthusiasm for each work day. In our branch, each employee, except the branch manager, comes to work half an hour before opening and clocks out anytime after everything is taken care of, even after hours. There are 6 employees, including myself: branch manager, Phong, a middle-aged Vietnamese male, and assistant manager, Jordan, a Japanese adult male. There are three management trainees (MT): Tiana, a Pacific Islander adult female; Seneca, a Filipino-Hawaiian young adult female, Natasha, a Caucasian young adult female. Lastly, there is I, a Filipino college student as a management trainee intern. The office is evidently a diverse
Our client, Sage Rent-A-Car Incorporation, leased a vehicle to Jeffery Calkin. The Defendant, Mr. Calkin was involved in a collision by failing to stop at a stop sign, therefore colliding with Jane White, the Plaintiff. Ms. White filed a negligence law suit against Mr. Calkin and Sage Rent-A-Car Inc. While reading “Orientation” written by Daniel Orozco, I was reminded of my sister and the office she works in. Of course, I won’t say where to protect the innocent. My sister reminded me of the person who was conducting the orientation of the new office worker. My sister is very high in the chain of command and has been at her company now for over 15 years. Because of this, she knows the office workers, and their issues, well. When she talks about them,
make sure that they create a perfect work environment that give space for all time of
As we enter the new millenium, diversity in the workforce is rapidly increasing. Businesses and organizations are living up to the great melting pot image the United States has always been popular for. Employees now reflect a diversity of cultural perspectives, ethnic backgrounds, ages, genders, physical abilities, and levels of education. This wave of multiculturalism is here to stay and cannot be ignored. It is in need of attention in order to uphold the well-being and success of businesses and organizations all over the country.
Jack Taylor began his business of Enterprise Rent-A-Car in 1962 in St. Louis, Missouri. Following the successfully philosophy of, "Take care of your customers and employees first, and profits will follow", Enterprise grew steadily to become the nation’s largest rent-a-car company. What separated Enterprise from its other competitors such as Hertz, Avis, and Alamo was the fact that the company focused on two segments of the home-city market rather than appealing to the airport-rental market.
| Enterprise entered in two new markets, discretionary & leisure and corporate. Both of these markets are attractive as their industry share is larger than that of the replacement market (33% and 40% compared to 27%). So far Enterprise was successful in entering these markets. Since the opportunities are greater in them, it might be reasonable for the company to diversify its operations further towards the new markets.
Cons: The is difficulty in carry out this approach. And it takes long time. The investors cannot see the good performance of Zipcar immediately. Then it will increase the difficulty of raising fund.
Make the atmosphere relaxing. Play soft music, use gentle lighting and keep loud chatter between your employees at a minimum.

After a few months of detailed scrutiny of the numbers, we were able to make pricing decisions more quickly by using the breakeven change in volume to set the new price. Based on our broad
Today's workforce is undoubtedly varied. Creating an environment that is acceptable and optimum for performing is what you want in the business environment. This will reduce the chances that an employee will feel under-valued, which can ultimately affect absenteeism rates and employee turnover. More diverse companies produce better results. Companies that respect and support individual employees ethnicity, age, gender, skills, and abilities provide for an all-inclusive atmosphere that allows employees to feel comfortable. Understanding cultural mannerisms, linking them to there abilities and not taking there age and gender to heart may help the judgement of candidates for their job skills, not their interview skills.
There are two major cultural divisions, Hispanic and Caucasian, to further complicate the work environment the ratio of Male to female workers is 20 to 1. No effort from either group of being sensitive to the others existence is apparent. (DuBrin, 2004, p. 67). Management’s main concern is for “ethnic diversity” to the point of not having issues with the equal employment opportunity act.
Mentoring and on-the-job training of less skilled workers through courses, assistant programs, and continuing education programs may even the gap between different employees. However, it is important to recognize potential and use the skills already at hand to create a more efficient team environment where each member’s contribution carries some value and contributes to the organization’s goals. Economic status is as important an issue as is education. Various employees come from different economic background. Their views and manners may differ, along with their expectations and motivations in daily routine and overall purpose. Nevertheless, they have to work together. There are potential problems and differences of conduct, motivation, and initiative. Managers have to get to know their people and develop ways of using their differences for the benefit of the organization. The focus should be on the positive aspects of individuals, and on merging the best qualities people have to form effective teams. Managing conflict is also very important. One thing managers should recognize is that there will always be a potential for conflict and their job is to intervene and resolve diversity issues early and quickly. Statistics show the extent of diversity in the workplace. “Eighty-five percent of those currently entering the American workforce are minorities and
As previously stated the company expanded to different states and Jack changed the name in 1969 to the Enterprise Leasing Company, in honor of the U.S.S. Enterprise aircraft carrier upon which he served in the Navy (Tucker & Salamie, 2005). The energy crises of the 1970s hindered Enterprise Leasing Company’s expansion, but accelerated growth occurred in the 1980s, even though Hertz and National entered the hometown market. According to Tucker and Salamie (2005), “a key ingredient to Enterprises success was the innovative Customer Giveaway Accounts, which allowed any Enterprise employee to charge off items up to a certain amount in order to satisfy customers (p. 2)” To motivate employees the company instituted an array of bonus plans and
