The books of Wisdom : Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs are hugely different from the preceding books of history. They focus on raising questions about God, creation itself, humanity and the essence of evil and suffering. In Job, we see one of the most famous individuals in the Old Testament. His continual struggles and trials cause him to call out to God for answers, and he receives one in Job 40:2 “Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him?He who rebukes God, let him answer it.” It's hard to read of Job's suffering and crying out to God without questioning why God would let him suffer, but it does show us the peace that can be found in recognizing God's sovereignty. In Psalms, we see a collection of lyrical poetry, songs and prayers. Many of these were written by King David himself. The book covers almost the entire gamut of human emotion, from sorrow to joy, from doubt to faith. …show more content…

For example, in Proverbs 10:4-5, we see that working hard will lead us to a better life, but slacking off will cause us shame. In Ecclesiastes: we have Solomon's (generally agreed upon to be the author) analysis of life. It seems cynical, but overall the message of the book is hope in God. In Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 we get Solomon's basic lesson to those who are seeking a full and abundant life “ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing,Whether good or evil.” In Song of Songs, we see another lyrical, poetic book. This book is only one of two in the Bible that do not mention God directly. It gives us an insight on how love, marriage and even sex are to be viewed and practiced in a loving Christian home.
