In this paper, the writer will explain the following questions about the American's belief about Jesus. The first question is Why do you think Americans' dedication to Jesus is, in most cases, "a mile wide and an inch deep?" What is the root of the problem? How do walking with Christ and engaging in the community help people's faith become "a mile deep?" The reason the Americans' dedicated to Jesus is said to be "a mile wide and an inch deep," because many Americans are financially stable with big houses, maids, and cooks and some feels they do not need Jesus, however, some will attend church religiously like they are doing God a favor. According to Bama Group, "The more money people make, the less likely they are to have committed to Jesus: …show more content…
Some people did not want to stop chasing materials things because of the acquired taste. Whereas the Bible tells us to taste of God and see that he is good (Psalm 34:8), and moth and rust destroy materials things (Matthew 6:19). However, the things of God are incorruptible. Many roots stem from trees and flowers. Sometimes it is not just one thing that causes declination or conflicts/problems in the church. One root could be a lack of knowledge and understanding. The second root is people judging others lifestyle forgetting where they derived from in their past. The third root is some Pastors has lost the interest in the people souls and more interest in the number count, building a big church, shame, and guilt of sin are another roots of declination in the church membership. Equally important, people are leaving the church because they are hurting and wounded.
The compassion shown by the Pastors and leaders helps people's faith walk become "a mile deep" while walking in Christ and engaging in the community. Individuals who remain active in the church, are the ones discovering their gifts and using their talents for the glory of God and to build the kingdom of God up. Also, the church must take ownership of their faith and grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ to the point where they are willing and ready to reinvest their faith into the life of another person. One of the ways to succeed in doing this is by putting together
In our book “American Jesus” by Stephen Prothero, the chairman of the religious department at Boston University, has published an engaging book that explains how the Son of God “Jesus Christ” became the nation’s most known and forming celebrity figure. While the United States of America was founded on religious freedom, Prothero explains to us that America has more active Christians than any other nation in history. And while this nation has been somewhat of a hedonistic society, Americans are more interested in the figure of Jesus than their Puritan forefathers, who were, as Prothero writes, "a God-fearing rather than Jesus-loving people." But that’s no surprise; Prothero warns us that Jesus may rule the country, but the people in the country
The book says that one in five Americans claim no religious identity at all. They are the fastest growing religious group in America (7, 21, 23). The book is trying to accomplish the description and characteristics who the “nones” are and developing more outreach to them. White gives steps in a vision for the chuch to rise up and reach this rapidly growing group with the gospel of Christ.
This was a ginormous step for the people and the diversity of religious believes exploded thereafter. This is where American Christianity’s roots bagan. Over the years American Christianity’s teachings and characteristics have been molded, creating the trends each individual walking down the street sees today. Wolfmuller examines throughout his book, Has American Christianity Failed, how the false teachings and dangerous practices of American Christianity have become accepted throughout society. After close examination, it is easy to conclude that Wolfullers deductions of American Christianity are correct in pointing to nothing other than
From when Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire in 380 A.D. to the postmodern age, the Christian Church had varying degrees of control on Western society as an authoritative figure, dictating moral decisions and controlling mass culture. This cultural super-influence, of course, bleed into literature, music and film as well as everyday life. With the decline of believers, Jesus’ contribution to American culture has surely not shaken. The
During this week, I read an interesting book “Big four” wrote by Dr kidder. This reading assignment helps me see how the ministry can be fruitful when you are willing to commit your life to Christ completely.in the beginning of this book he point out the two things that every members desired about church. The thought church is an exciting place to do ministry and experience the grace of God in community.in addition, the want their church to be a place where people can find they love of Jesus Christ.
Thenature of this paper, which deals with the presence of a subconscious set ofparticularly American beliefs, inherently involves more reflection than thegathering of data. Whatsimportant is the way we live, not the historical manufacturing of facts whichis more evidence, not description, of the current Religion of the AmericanEconomy. And while most ofthese truths should be self evident (like any good preamble), some statisticswill be cited to illustrate their culmination in everyday life. To set this new dogma in context, Iwill also describe the founding principles of Christian living, with particularattention paid to the
In his sermon entitled “A City on a Hill,” Jonathan Edwards portrays the idea that this nation serves as a model for the rest of the world, and because of this level attention, it must attribute all its glory to God. In emphasizing its importance as a Christian nation, Edwards shows to a modern audience the influence of America’s religious roots, as well as why America today holds itself in such high esteem.
The word “God” or “Christianity” is often thrown around in the political world today. Candidates often can be seen supporting the invasions of other nations, but then claiming a strong devotion to God only a few moments later. The question is, “how has America become such a broken nation with such distorted views of the role of Christianity?” The emergent idea of America as a Christian nation is an important and relevant issue with many possible consequences. In reality, there are many cultural and religious influences in the nation, but many people have internalized the idea that the Christian religion is not solely an influential aspect of our society, but instead helps to construct the society itself. Personally, before reading
Church buildings, musical instruments, ministers’ attire, choir robes, hymns, names of converts, schools and curriculums had Americans’ religious, cultural, and economic trademark. The Christianity that addressed issues of life in the American cultural context was transplanted in different parts of the world. Unlike the transition of the Hebraic-Christianity from the Jewish culture to the Gentile world in the first century, which developed its own unique theological, cultural, and leadership identity in a short period of time, the phenomenal growth of Christianity in the majority world has been largely influenced by the dominance of American Christianity. As the result, we have Christian faith that is not well anchored on local theology. And to most of the churches in the majority world, up until recently,
Diversity is common in America today, many people sharing a unique blend of many different collective cultural views on religion, politics, moral and ethical values. Conversely, an unsurpassed rich mixture of religions, races, and cultures, making it a wide-ranging synthesis that is unique to any other part of the world. Still, among the many religious cultures in America (secular, Christian, and other religions) Christianity still has much ground to cover with non-believers. Inasmuch, many religious cultures do not belief that Jesus is the son of God and humanities Redeemer, such as, the Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons believing that Jesus Christ existed, but he is not the Son of God. Similar, the Roman Empire in the third century, “Christianity
Although Christianity was well known throughout the affluent classes, Jesus’s philosophies touched the hearts of the plebeians. The self-proclaimed Messiah often spoke of money and riches not being needed in the afterlife, and that God measures you not on how much money you have but on your values you showed throughout your life. This touched the working class’s heart as it informed them that there is hope for a better life that everyone can achieve but not a lot deserve. Therefore, this was the main reason why Christianity was spread as quickly as it could.
Some people claim that this is a Christian nation. However, Christianity is not the official religion in America, even though it may be the most popular. Although 71% of America are Christian, the other 29% is forced to pledge
A) Most by far of Americans distinguish themselves as Christians. This fundamental certainty focuses on the Christian character of the country.
The religion of Christianity is a practice that has been apart of the American nation since it’s early founding, but what is the United States relationship to Christianity? In this class we have discussed three very different versions of the “Christian Nation” dialogue in the books that we have read throughout the semester. These books include John Fea’s Was America Founded as a Christian Nation?, Matthew Sutton’s American Apocalypse: A History of Evangelicalism, and Kevin Kruse’s One Nation Under God: How Corporate America Invented Christian America. Each book gives a different interpretation of the relationship between the United States and the religion Christianity, and how this relationship shaped the United States to the country that it
The ministry of Jesus began when Jesus was 30 years old, after his baptism in the river Jordan. Within three and a half years of his ministry Jesus did more miracles than any man in the world could have accomplished. He preached about the ways of changing lives and often gave parables to educate people. Even though he was rejected Jesus continued to spread the gospel in different cities around Israel, including Capernaum and Bethsaida.
