In addition to Jesus’ specific claims about Himself, His disciples also acknowledged the deity of Christ. They claimed that Jesus had the right to forgive sins—something only God can do—as it is God who is offended by sin (Acts 5:31; Colossians 3:13; Psalm 130:4; Jeremiah 31:34). In close connection with this last claim, Jesus is also said to be the one who will “judge the living and the dead” (2 Timothy 4:1). Thomas cried out to Jesus, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28). Paul calls Jesus “great God and Savior” (Titus 2:13) and points out that prior to His incarnation Jesus existed in the “form of God” (Philippians 2:5-8). God the Father says regarding Jesus: “Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever” (Hebrews 1:8). John states that …show more content…
If it is YHWH who is pierced and looked upon, and Jesus was the one pierced and looked upon, then Jesus is YHWH. Paul interprets Isaiah 45:22-23 as applying to Jesus in Philippians 2:10-11. Further, Jesus’ name is used alongside God’s in prayer “Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” (Galatians 1:3; Ephesians 1:2). This would be blasphemy if Christ were not deity. The name of Jesus appears with God 's in Jesus ' commanded to baptize “in the name [singular] of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19; see also 2 Corinthians 13:14).
Actions that can be accomplished only by God are credited to Jesus. Jesus not only raised the dead (John 5:21, 11:38-44) and forgave sins (Acts 5:31, 13:38), He created and sustains the universe (John 1:2; Colossians 1:16-17). This becomes even clearer when one considers YHWH said He was alone during creation (Isaiah 44:24). Further, Christ possesses attributes that only deity can have: eternality (John 8:58), omnipresence (Matthew 18:20, 28:20), omniscience (Matthew 16:21), and omnipotence (John 11:38-44).
Now, it is one thing to claim to be God or to fool someone into believing it is true, and something else entirely to prove it to be so. Christ offered many miracles as proof of His claim to deity. Just a few of Jesus ' miracles include turning water to wine (John 2:7), walking on water (Matthew 14:25),
Jesus is known by many titles, perhaps most importantly the Savior of the world. Jesus Christ was sent to this earth to pay the price for all of humanities’ sins. According to Merrick, (2015). Scriptures primarily focus on His ministry as an adult however, there is an account of Jesus reading scriptures in the synagogue. Jesus was also known as the Messiah, or anointed one. This title gives further explanation to His divinity and supreme rule. Jesus was also known to be both man and God. This truth is significant because as (Merrick, 2015a) states “one beholds what all human life should look like.” (Section The Image of the Invisible God, para. 1). Bowen, (2014) gave a great explanation of Jesus when he said “This Jesus holds together the atoms in our bodies, keeps the laws of physics constant. Those individuals who believe the earth’s existence and beginning is a scientific occurrence can learn a bit more about the role Jesus played in the
Chapter 4 JESUS CHRIST TRULY GOD The word ‘Christ’ means literally Messiah or Anointed One. It points us to a greater understanding of Jesus’ person. It tells us that Jesus is more than a mere man but not a superman or a conglomerate god like Hercules of Greek fame. It magnifies his Person and focuses upon his Godhood as the God-man.
Jesus claimed to be God consistently. First, by forgiving sins. This was something that the Jews believed that only God could do. He also had the ability to cast out demons again something only God could do (Mark 1: 21-24). He also claimed to be God incarnate through his miracles. Jesus didn’t claim to be a submissive son of God. He claimed much more, to be God in human form. As a Christians you have to believe those claims to be true, not out of blind faith but simply because Jesus' thoughts, actions, and the effect that he has had on countless billions of people throughout history, all confirm these claims to be true.
Hebrews 1:2-3 says, “But in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven” (NIV). In an article in The Christian Crier, author Jack Wellman gives a great description of Jesus.
The Odyssey by Homer encompasses a rather modern idea of women and their role for its time. Homer portrays women as creatures who are strong but are ultimately defeated. It is true that in most stories they are portrayed as being weaker, but the women in this poem are oddly strong or have a very strong presence. The three main examples are Calypso, Athena, and the Lotus Flower. Each of these examples has a predominant presence in The Odyssey making them sturdy objects.
The Book of the Dead is a funerary text from ancient Egypt. It was used during the New Kingdom which was around 1550 BC to 50 BC. Other translations of the book include “Book of Coming Forth by Day” and “Book of Emerging Forth into the Light.” The book is basically a loose collection of texts which was intended to assist the dead on their journey into the underworld and into the afterlife. Over a thousand-year period the book was constructed and the authors included many different priests over that time period.
After reading each of the selected scriptures, they all have one thing in common, Jesus, the Son of God, has all the power, strength, wisdom, love, and knowledge as God. Jesus mentions in several of these passages his abilities are the same as God and it is through the Father that He is able to do the things that He does. Knowing Jesus, was the same as knowing the Father. Jesus is the most complete countenance of God in history.
Created September 25,1978 and ratified December 15, 179, the Bill of Rights was imputed into society as a tool to establish law, order, and morality. James Madison, a political theorist, was known as the father of the Bill of Rights. One of the most important amendments in the Bill of Rights is the right to freedom of speech, expression and media. In the Bill of Rights, the First Amendment states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” The First Amendment guarantees the citizens of America that they have the right to freely express themselves about anything, including political arguments and views. This amendment also guarantees the press/media the right to overtly publish their ideas on any topic in the newspaper. The purpose of this amendment is to assure America’s people that they shouldn’t worry about being censored or punished for the expression of their feelings because they are human just as everyone else.
When exploring the concept of ‘God the Son’, the incarnation and attributes of God as seen in Christ enter the picture. In order for human sin to be covered, a human sacrifice is all that could meet the requirement ordained by God, yet, they had to be sinless. Only the incarnate God could fulfill this role, exhibiting qualities of God Himself, such as selflessness, unconditional love, and purity. Another core trait was humbleness, although Jesus held the highest status in all the world, which shone brightly in His ministry, as He also served the children of God. Paul captured the essence of Jesus as God and the reality of the incarnation in these verses, “let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God…made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men” (Philippians 2:5-7, NKJV).
When discussing and proving the person of Christ, there are two basic laws that must be addressed and proven. First you must prove that Christ is one hundred percent human (humanity), then you must prove that at the same time Christ is one hundred percent God (deity).
Vincent Willem van Gogh was born on 30 March 1853 in Zundert, a village in the south of the Netherlands. His father was the protestant minister of the place, but three of his father's brothers were art dealers, and so it is only natural that Vincent became an apprentice at the shop of his uncle Vincent van Gogh in The Hague. His uncle had become a partner in the firm of Goupil & Cie, and after having worked in The Hague for four years Vincent was sent to other branches of the Goupil firm, first in London, then in Paris.
So, who does Jesus say that God is? In perhaps His darkest moment, just hours away from the arrest that would lead to His torture and death, Jesus walked into the garden at Gethsemane. He fell to the ground, and cried out to God, “Abba, Father” (Mark 14:36). Abba means “father.” We can also think of it in today’s terms as Papa or Daddy.
Throughout the history of mankind, there have been many great men who have left an impact on today’s world. Some of these men may have changed a certain system was run or established a better community for other people. While doing these things is certainly commendable, there is one man who stands above the rest. This man is unique in every way from His conception to His death. In addition, this man made astonishing claims and performed many great miracles. While there were many that embraced this man, there were many that called him foolish and a sinner. This man was Jesus Christ. Through the use of Old Testament prophets, various New Testament testimonies, and certain divine attributes, it is proven that Jesus Christ is unique in that He and God are one.
The title "Christ" is used most often for Jesus in throughout Luke and Acts. “Christ” also served as foundation in constructing Jesus’s journey from earth to him being exalted [1, pg 14]. It refers to Jesus as the Anointed One of the Lord, the Messiah. The title was first used in Luke 2:11, and the strength of this title was clearly outlined in Luke 1:31-35, which described the role of Jesus as the Messiah. Stating that he was the royal figure promised
