Hello Theresa, I agree that Jessica the novice nurse, should have ask her manager or charge nurse for their opinion before calling CPS. Moreover, before jumping to a conclusions that the patient was being abused, parents should have been interviewed with the present of an interpretor. The facility where I work, we have twenty five percent of Spanish speaking patients, there's always a Spanish interpreter on site and one on call. However, for other languages, we use Martti to provide one-on-one, real time interpretation with a live interpreter. Great
On Thursday 11/17/2016 around 2300 hours, I, Security Steven Evans was informed by Dispatch to make contact with 5 East Unit Charge Nurse Tonya Smith in regards of Code (34) Customer Service Assist. I arrived at 2302 hours and met with Charge Tonya Smith who explained to me that the Correction Officers for the prisoner in room # 504 had given her hard time few Months ago on the patient, Angel SantiagoGonzalez (Fin# 86424089) last visit. Nurse Smith further stated that she had a personal problems with one of the Officer and that she was informed by Lake Correctional Institution that this Officer would not be working at all on 5 East. She described the Officer as a Black female about 6 feet tall with braided hair. I walked over to the room and
It is very important for graduate nurses to fit in to a hospital as this gives them a chance to practice safely and effectively. For a New Graduate Nurse (NGN), fitting-in is about establishing secure and meaningful social bonds with ward staff (Rush, Adamack, Gordon, and Janke, 2014, p. 222). Fitting in, or the wish to fit in with ward staff is one of central piont of NGN transition experiences; it gives the NGN a feeling that they are a part of a social group with common goals, common experiences and a shared culture (Tingleff and Gildberg, 2014, p. 537). Success for the New Graduate Nurse would depend on how fast they establish friendly relationships and a sense of belonging. Hospitals understand the importance of NGN getting used to the
Since I was a kid, I always wanted to be a nurse. I am taking the very steps to be a nurse and, due to educational requirements, I had to read a memoir written by an actual nurse called The Shift by Theresa Brown. In this book, Theresa talks about her experience over a twelve-hour shift. She illustrates how a nurse works in a hospital environment with positive and negative aspects. There are so many beneficial outcomes of being a nurse such as the relationships formed between patients and nurses, and saving lives every day. But there are also disadvantages behind this profession like the long shifts nurses must work, the hierarchies of hospital jobs, the stress of life and death situations, and picky patients.
I'm Maria Guadalupe Garcia, and a mother of four, the youngest having ASD. I tried to find a logical reason behind the diagnosis. Was it the Diet Coke I drank when I was pregnant of him or the coke we gave him to drink when he was a baby? Whose side of the family did it come from? How was his birth different than that of his brother’s? All of these questions, left unanswered, only increased my tension. I'm more at home on social care issues, and as a parent quite involved in issues around transition. I'm also an ABA technician for Centria Healthcare. Each and every time I worked with a new client, my son comes to mind. He may not had received the needed services. My family may not have been provided with the necessary support and information.
The staff person did not take the correct approach in trying to communicate with the patient. The staff person should have made an effort to obtain a trained interpreter to speak with the patient. If unable to do this, the staff person could have sought to find a staff member who spoke Spanish. However, after touching basis on what the patient is seeking care for, a trained interpreter should be obtained. It is not appropriate to use family members as interpreters since this can result in a breach of confidentiality and misunderstanding of information. The patient son is also a minor, which is another reason he should not be used as an interpreter. This situation was not an emergency that required immediate need of a translator, thus an appropriate interpreter would have been the best approach.
Have you ever known somebody who had a baby and they were rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)? A Neonatal nurse is also known as registered nurse. They are extremely important and they are very compassionate. On September 12th, 2012 my nephew John Robinson III was born. Before my Aunt could see her baby boy he was rushed to the NICU. All of us were terrified and scared. John was born premature and his lungs were not developed enough for him to breathe on his own. John had to be given surfactant, and be put on CPAP, so he could breathe. CPAP stands for Continuous positive airway pressure. CPAP is nasal prongs that deliver oxygen at a positive pressure to keep the alveoli open and to improve oxygenation. So with the surfactant
I would like to take this opportunity to say Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to discussion my application issues.
After some more reading and reflection, I decided I wanted to add some more things to think about as being Maria’s school nurse. At first I did not cite the healthy people as a reference but now after going through the different topics I can see why it is an important tool and a great resource. The topic that focuses on Maria’s weight is nutrition and weight status (DHHS, 2014). Healthy People 2020 helps by referring to the different determinants of health to take that into consideration in regards to Maria’s care. A physical determinant that can hinder Maria is whether Maria lives in a food desert (DHHS, 2014). Having access to healthier foods is a crucial component when wanting to live a healthy lifestyle. As thinking about my own experience
Job retention rates amongst newly graduate nurses tend to fluctuate widely. These fluctuations have many possible and combined explanations including orientation quality, level of confidence, residency programs, pay rates, mentoring programs, management support, and countless views of job satisfaction. My concept will focus on transition to practice success of new graduate nurses in relationship to their organization’s orientation process, job satisfaction, and the effects of job retention rates.
Julia Beynon is a graduate of the University Of Utah College Of Nursing and began her nursing career at University of Utah Health where she continues to this day. Along with
The aims and objectives of this assignment are to reflect on an incident and to explore and discuss research and theory with my understanding of the incident. Within this study the client referred to will be called Mr Bloggs, this is in order that his real name is protected and that his confidentiality will be maintained, in line with the UKCC code of conduct (1992). This contributes to one of the four NMC outcomes (Professional/ethical practice). My critical incident took place at a local Hospital during my thirty weeks placement.
As an Enrolled Nurse we will be presented with many issues, from medical to social, and all those in between and to help us cope with all that is put in front of us we need to use the resources and knowledge available at our disposal to help our clients/patients. One such instant is that of a 2 year old boy – Toby, and what transpires is that Toby’s mother has said that his behaviour has change from that of an easy to care for boy to one who refuse to do anything and all can say is no, and the dinner time period is very stressful, as now Toby refuses to eat and has a tantrum. Through our training we have found that there are theorists who can give insight into why Toby is acting in this way.
A nurse’s role is about evoking and installing willingness for exploring a person’s ability rather than inability to rediscovering the pathway into their past. Missy the happy little girl that grew up with parents who adored her, starting her first day at school, to reminiscing on holidays spent in school camps, although Missy resisted going at first, after actually arriving to camp she really enjoyed the outdoors with her class friends and teachers. However as a whole person, I resist the concept of evoking memories that have the potential to cause emotional pain, when Missy becomes emotional, being intimate with her memories that she for years tried to put behind her, I evoke cultural sensitivity, remembering that Missy is someone’s daughter
Not everyone was happy about it when we found out that we were going to have to greet a new graduate nurse in my unit. A lot of sighs were fired all over the place, and the strange tensions had soaked through the air. Why? I laughed at the fact that we, the seniors, might feel more stressed than those newcomers ironically. Even though we have learned that we have responsibilities to educate your junior staff and help them to grow, I feel like it has become just “theoretical” thing which you cannot find in real life anywhere, but probably in some textbooks or academic journals. Rather than that, I would like to say that all the passion for fostering young people is only valid while they are in school. However, it is clear that no one can overemphasize
I once heard someone say, “Find something you love to do and you’ll always be successful.” If you want to be in a field where you are continually learning, nursing would be the top pick. This paper will reflect the journey I have taken from Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with the incorporation of my learning objectives from my clinical course.
