"No one knows for certain how much impact they have on the lives of other people. Oftentimes, we have no clue. Yet we push it just the same." The novel, Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, should not be censored from schools due to it showing the problem with bullying, it speaks up about teens dealing with depression and shows the side effects that suicide can have on other people. Throughout the novel, the idea of bullying for the main character Hannah Baker seems to be her biggest problem as the rumors that were once small turned into a “snowball effect”. The novel demonstrates and brings awareness to what the result of bullying can have on someone and how those small actions and words can ultimately turn into something bigger. In Barbara Kingsolver’s novel The Bean Trees, Taylor mentions to Estevan her classmate Scotty Richey’s suicide. She explains that although her school had a very distinct social hierarchy, people within a class had each other for company. Scotty, however, had nobody.
