When I think of Courage, I think of a superhero or a brave police officer, but actually courage is everywhere and in all of us, it’s just hidden in our everyday lives. The book “Jasper Jones” shows some examples of courage in everyday life. Courage is important because it´s the force that pushes us through times where we are really scared and the times where we are really nervous. We need courage in our lives or else we would never go outside our comfort zones and never take risks.
Being courageous can persuade someone into doing something they fear. Near the end of chapter 1 of ¨Jasper Jones¨, Charlie gets faced with this huge dilemma where he must choose to either follow Jasper into the forest or to stay behind. Charlie chooses to follow Jasper because he trusts him and also because he wants to appear strong and courageous to Jasper. Charlie made the right decision to be strong and courageous because without Charlie´s help Jasper might have been caught and punished for a crime he did not commit. In this example, Charlie's courage helped him trust and help Jasper.

In Jasper Jones, Charlie had a crush on this girl named Eliza Wishart, and Charlie had no idea how to talk to her and was always nervous when seeing her. Charlie had this fear of her thinking he was too awkward and so he stayed away from her and hid. Until one day, when Charlie´s friend, Jeremy teased Charlie into going over and talking to Eliza. Charlie had no idea what to do, so he talked about books. Even though books wasn’t the most interesting topic, Charlie realized that pushing himself to talk to Eliza was the right decision because they wouldn’t have been so close if they hadn’t talked early in the
Courage helps us everyday. It is important to have because it can help you try new things and it can help with many other things. In Jasper Jones, Charlie helps Jasper by going with him to the glade. “Jasper doesn’t respond. He just turns and sets off. I follow.” (Silvey 3) Charlie has many moments where he uses courage and most of the time it helps him or others. He uses it when he goes with Jasper to the glade, when him and Jasper put Laura’s body in the river, and when he goes to Jack’s house.
One of the main factors in Charlie’s journey from innocence to experience is his friendship with Jasper Jones. In the beginning of the book Charlie is very sheltered and naive, but when Jasper Jones appears at Charlie’s window to ask for help, he exposes Charlie to scary situations forcing him to be brave and face his fears. When Jasper asks Charlie to help
Charlie learns that trust is the most important thing in Corrigan and also his life. Charlie hadn’t ever trusted someone as much as he did Jasper Jones. The town believed Jasper to be a liar, thief, a bad influence and many other things, and they all knew especially not to trust him. When Laura went missing, Corrigan believed Jasper had something to do
In the novel The Survivors, by Will Weaver, Miles Newell displays a constant mood of courageousness. One time in the novel, Miles takes the time to walk Sarah to the bus stop, even though she could've walked herself. (19) Another time Miles shows courageousness is when he shoots at that couple near the river. They could’ve been psychopaths and murdered him with axes. They were pretending to have a baby after all. (55) The last way Miles was courageous is when he and Artie tripped Danny off his motorcycle, at Birch Bay to get their old cabin back. (288) Danny could have also tried to kill them with his guns and stuff but they didn't they just left without a fight, which is kinda weird. Courageous means not being afraid to do whatever it takes
Courage can be something that is hard to achieve. Not only do you have to be brave, but also willing to take the risk even when you are scared. Jasper Jones has many characters who show courage, but also characters who could have been courageous and changed the whole plot. Courage can save someone’s life, and the lack of it could cause totally different endings in life as if someone did something that they may not have done without having courage, when someone may have lack of courage causing them not to do something, or when someone may decide to use courage to save a life.
Courage is speaking up and standing up for others while going out of comfort zones to do it. The book I read for book club is called Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Speak is about a girl Malinda who called the cops at a high school and after that nobody speaks to her without knowing the real reason why she called the cops. Her life is crazy until she finally speaks up and the truth comes out. Being courageous is important because it helps people go outside of their comfort zone and stand up for others.
Courage’s importance comes into play if choosing to live life to the fullest. “The quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear.” A revealing and mysterious novel “Jasper Jones” by Craig Silvey has Jasper (14) appearing at Charlie Bucktin’s (13) home late one night. Feeling the exhilaration Charlie takes up Jaspers offer to follow him into the woods, nervous and excited they crept through the night. Charlie and Jasper discover something that never will leave their conscience.
Courage, according to the dictionary is, “the ability to do something that frightens one.” On the other hand, courage defined in the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, is, “ it’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyways and you see through it no matter what.” (Lee, 112) Through this quote, Atticus defines the fact that one must fight with all their might for something that is right despite if they win or lose. But what does it take to be courageous? Throughout the book, courage is best exemplified through the characters Atticus, Scout, and Jem.
People who are courageous are able to achieve their goals, to stand up and to have their say in what is right and what is wrong. They might’ve made mistakes in life, but if they are willing to reach it, they will get up and try again, becoming stronger than ever at trying to pursue their goals.
The definition of courage is “the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear; bravery” (“courage”). Is courage valued today? If courage did not exist, then the world would not be effective. Courage fetches the preeminent decisions and the impulsive decisions out of people. Dismally, people are frightened to expose their true colors. Consequently, this negative reason hurts people. Despite the fear, some rise up to the challenge of courage. Some people practice courage in a negative way as in reckless decisions. How can one simple word have so many outcomes? The answer is human nature. Human nature is what changes things for people. Courage, true courage, is not as common. Courage should be common. Edmund Rostand, who wrote the play Cyrano de Bergerac, shows how courage is used in different ways. Through his characters named Cyrano de Bergerac, Christian de Neuvillette, Comte de Guiche and Roxane, Rostand demonstrates the different types of courage.
What is courage? Courage is the ability to do something difficult even when there’s a risk. It’s not about bravery it’s about perseverance. In Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird Lee teaches readers about what real courage is from her perspective. A few examples are when Jem confuses courage with strength or when Mrs Dubose was fighting her morphine addiction, when Atticus shoots the rabies infected dog, when Boo saves Jem and Scout and sneaks out the Radley house to give gifts to the kids and most importantly atticus’ determination to defend the town.
“You’ll see it Charlie. Shit. You’ll wish you dint, but you’ll see it. It’s not too late but. Are you sure you’re gonna help me?” (9). This shows courage because even though Jasper had never really talked to Charlie before, he trusted him that he wouldn’t act irrationally, and go to the police, or his parents. Jasper wasn’t sure how Charlie would react to him showing him Laura’s body, but he thought that Charlie was different, and hoped that he would understand and believe
We all have opportunities to display courage in our life, but if we actually do is our decision. Courage is being able to do what is right even if it can be hard. In the book Speak by Laurie Halle Anderson I found three different examples of courage. In this book Melinda Sordino, David Petrakis and Melinda, again all show courage.
Courage is important because if you are in a situation where you need to stick up for yourself it can sometimes save you and your self confidence. Even if you don't feel courageous it is always important to act like you are because then it will show someone that you are strong and independent because courage takes a lot of strength. In speak Melinda comes face to face with her fear, Andy Evans. She has always been fearful around him while try to avoid and stay very far away from him. Courage is very important because it helped and saved Melinda from another possible incident. “The light flicks on and the door closes. I am trapped with Andy Evans” (Anderson 193). “I reach in and wrap my fingers around a triangle of glass. I hold it to Andy Evans neck. He freezes. I push just hard enough to raise one drop of blood. He raises his arms over his head”. “Me: “i said no.” (Anderson 195). Courage saved Melinda in this situation, if she didn’t prove and show Andy that she is strong she could’ve been hurt again. A strong and independent personality that is powered by courage is very hard to have but it is important to show because it will make you feel and be powerful. If you are courageous it will not only change people’s perspectives about you but it will change your perspective about yourself which is very important because it will bring you happiness and strength against the many
Courage is defined as "the quality of mind or spirit enabling one to meet danger or opposition with fearlessness." According to Atticus Finch, one of the main characters in To Kill a Mockingbird, "Courage is when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what." (pg.121). Harper Lee clearly portrays the theme of courage in her novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. One likes to think of a hero, as strong, brave, and meeting all challenges head on. All the characters in this book have a different view as to what courage
