Martha came into Jason’s room to shut the windows while he was still sleeping and saw the empty bottle of cold medicine next to his bed. Jason was shivering, his face was white as albino trout, and he seemed to be moaning unidentifiable sentences. This sort of scene would frighten any parent or at least raise concern, but to Martha this was just another average morning since her son has moved back home. “Whats the matter son? You feeling sick? Do you need to go to the hospital?”, Martha asked with little to no emotion . “No, Im fine mom. Just had a little headache last night. That’s all.” Jason replied. Martha looked at her son with emotional disappointment and hoped that he would soon come to his senses. She understood his pain and …show more content…
I really need your help with a few things today while Im gone. Okay? And aren't you expecting a call about that job at the work-out place? Anyways, I left a list on the table of things I need you to do today. Call me when you wake up please. Oh and don’t forget to feed Yonce.”
Martha closed the door behind her and went off to work knowing that the list would take a miracle to get done today.
Jason hears the closing of the door and slowly open his eyelids that meet the light his mother invited in just moments before. He contemplates on getting up and starting the day off right by taking a shower, eating breakfast, and looking for a job. Though the more Jason thinks about these tasks the more he feels the pressure and decides to stay in bed for just a little longer. He knows anything is possible once one takes the proper action in achieving something, but to him everything he wants to achieve seems unattainable. Jason thinks about the time his friend Trent told him of his depression and how awful the thoughts were that raced in his head. Jason recalls the night Trent and him smoked a joint outside the bar downtown and the words he used to define what believed was the root of his
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines courage as “mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.” Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird flawlessly fulfills this definition of courage by depicting everyday people carrying out acts of bravery in spite of their dangers, fears, or difficulties. To Kill a Mockingbird centers on Scout Finch and her experiences growing up in a small Alabama town during the Great Depression. Throughout the story, Scout’s wide-eyed view of society changes as she realizes other people’s morals do not coincide with her own ideals. Several variations of courage are shown throughout the book, including Atticus Finch’s defense of Tom Robinson, Mrs. Dubose’s decision to give up morphine, and Boo Radley’s rescue of Jem and Scout.
As many Americans know, the status of non-white Americans can be a gray area. Police brutality puts a spotlight on this gray area, with the #BlackLivesMatter movement and the use of media to promote differing perspectives. “Negrotown” takes the perspective against police brutality to another level by introducing a utopian-like community with only Black people. The viewer follows the main character around a fantasy environment before he realizes he’s still arrested in the real world. The comedic short film “Negrotown” by Key & Peele uses satire, specifically situational irony to highlight the discriminatory treatment of African-Americans in the criminal justice system.
“Mom knock it off, I’m going to be fine, there’s nothing to worry about!” I said.
In response to the seminar on Jason’s section, I would like to look at Jason and his car. Jason purchased his car with the money that his mother had given him to invest in the store. Jason obviously sees himself as an astute businessman. However, Jason must prefer the automobile to business as he pursues the purchase of a car rather than a stable career as part-owner of the store where he is an employee. There is something about owning a car that, to Jason, means more than owning part of a business. It is as if after losing the chance to have a position at the bank due to Caddy’s divorce Jason has found his lost manhood in the car. To achieve the control and independence that he seems to want so badly, Jason must purchase a car and a certain kind of car. The reader knows that Jason does not own a Ford, “I think too much of my car; I’m not going to hammer it to pieces like it was a ford” (238). To Jason, a Ford is obviously a cheap car and his more expensive car is necessary for him to attempt to retain the class status of the Compson’s that has dramatically declined since the Civil War.
they should be sleeping, but they are not, nor does either of them seem to possess enough care to crawl into bed, for julius is intermittently warming and cooling his throat while jason steels up for the show that he is about to put up. some things are just not suited for new york city, and this happens to be one of them.
In Auggie’s room, Auggie sits at the desk growing increasingly annoyed by his computer, Karen.
“Craig, You dick! Hurry your ass up!” Ruby Tucker bellowed into her brother’s room. She had been ready for the last two hours, as she had been every morning since she’d started the seventh grade. Craig, on the other hand, was a lazy little cat who preferred nothing more than sleeping in, especially on school days.
"--Neat as a palace--” Neil walked to the front windows and leaned out, but saw nothing.
“ What happened, what did they say to you, did they say something mean?” Jason asks.
I had decided to delay studying for my extensive anatomy test over all the muscles of the body until the night before the enormous test. I knew that my reasoning was not sound and I should have commenced long before. I came to the resolution to make an effort and learn all of the muscles and pray for a miracle while I took the test. The next day I trudged into my anatomy class with my stomach in my throat. As Mr. Nikiforow passed out the test I felt my nerves kick in instantaneously. I sat in agony as my classmates ploddingly passed the test down the row. I began to glance through the test and I knew at that instant that I would never make the same mistake again. When we received our test back later that week, little to my surprise I had failed. My first initial reaction was “this material was tremendously challenging and everyone else obtained poor grades as well, so Mr. Nik must have done an inadequate job teaching it to us”. I went through the rest of my day attempting to forget about the test, but it seemed to keep popping up in the back of my head. When I arrived home, I decided to address the looming thoughts in the back of my head. My sub par grade on the test was in no way Mr. Nik’s responsibility. The grade instead was a clear representation to the lack of effort I had put forth in studying. Prior to anatomy, I had been able to attain quality grades with minimal studying. Failing my anatomy test presented me with the wake up call that I needed.
"Jeff! Mia! Liu!” Yelled Margaret. “Come on! We have to get the rest of the stuff packed up!” She yelled again. “We're coming mom!” Mia yelled back. “Why do we have to move again?” Asked her youngest brother by a year. “Because dad got that stupid promotion” Jeff grumpily explained as he lifted up one of the last boxes. “Come on Jeffrey, it can't be that bad. We are after all moving closer out into the country. Imagine all the cool places we will be able to explore. Cheer up bro.” I said as I grabbed the last few things and went down the stairs. Jeff absolutely hated being called Jeffrey, that's why I tease him about it every once in a while. Jeff always teases me about that fact he's the oldest twin, he's only older by an hour. I guess that's
“D- don’t worry about it. I’m fine” I said, with a sniffle and a tear rolling down my cheek and dripping onto my shirt.
Billy woke up and heard loud beeping with the sound of bricks crumbling. He took a look around and saw big yellow machines running into the building wildly. The men working the machines suddenly stopped when they realized a person was in the building. The workers helped Billy out, then they asked what he was doing in there. He said “ I was staying the night here.” He left in the house in confusion.
jason advised his friends to let him go out and see what was happening. The sun was just starting to rise filled the house with light allowing Jason’s Friends to come out. Everything was calm to the untrained eye.behind the trees there were these creatures slowly walking towards the cabin.jason shrieked as he rushed for his uncle's old rugged van.as he opened the front door he realized there was a weird stench coming from the glove box he decided to just let it be. So he grabbed the spare keys Inside the console and started the van and drove it to his friends who were scared just at the sight of Jason driving. They hopped in anyways. As Jason started flooring the gas pedal but the horrible stench was getting even worse. Jason opened it and a old crusty pepperoni pizza fell out covered with mold ,distracting Jason as he drove down the road.when he was gagging due to the nasty pizza he drove off the road later hitting a tree.he turned around after the crash to find Jackie and Madison
" James...... honey, time for school" yelled a older woman with a hint of urgency beneath every word, she spoke, quietly pushing his bedroom door inch by inch. "honey......... JAMES" spotting a half unconscious boy laying face down, with small drops of blood scatter around. a tiny burn enflamed upon his pale skin. she rushed to his side, embracing his lifeless body in her arms . rocking him back and forth, tightening her grip with every passing minute. running her fingers through reddish orange hair, refraining her touch from coming in contact with his small faintly battered face.
