I did not get to see this monument due to staying back, but a very great friend of mine did and described his moving experience that made it felt like I’ve been there before. When Jacob’s travel group went to see this memorial it was night time which made it look interesting in how it stood. Jacob was moved by how Dr. King’s memorial was depicted being that he was the hope for our nation to be a whole and equal again. Jacob also noticed how King’s memorial was facing Thomas Jefferson’s memorial. Jacob like how represented being both Americans who wanted to do rights for others. This moves me because these Americans really wanted to make the citizens and America be the best they can be and express their views freely. As an American citizen,
“The scale of Monument Avenue also amplified the weirdness of the whole enterprise. After all, Davis and Lee and Jackson and Stuart weren't national heroes. In the view of many Americans, they were precisely the opposite; leaders of a rebellion against the nation - separatists at best, traitors at worst. None of those honored were
Source A in the paragraph two it starts by saying “pilgrimage site, where communities of believers actually come together in act of occupying a holy site, seeing relic, reenacting a sacred event”. A little after that it says the “memorial itself contains no actual relic of Lincoln”. Lincoln was not alive when the monument was made but it’s still a piece of history that people have studied and have lived through. Source B is a picture of Christopher Columbus Monument.
Though both photographs have a lot to say, a viewer my not know why the memorial means so much to the individual in the image. Looking at the photograph one can begin to draw conclusions, but the story behind each picture truly has more meaning than imaginable. The photograph, A Man Kneels before the 9/11 Memorial, displays a man named Robert Peraza, who is touching the name of his son upon the 9/11 memorial. His son, Robert David Peraza, passed during the 9/11 attacks after American Airlines flight 11 struck the North Tower. Ten years later and the grief still takes over Peraza; he touched his son's name and lowered his head while falling to his knees. Bearing a shirt with his son on the front, Mr.
My monument is very complex, it will look like john Adams with a extended arm holding a flag and in the other hand lies a sort of paper that says “life, liberty, and happiness.” During John Adam`s life, the first thing i knew prior about him was how he thought the high taxes and the unfair treatment was undeniably wrong. He went to do something about it and decided to fight for our life, liberty, and property. Therefore, knowing this, i decided to incorporate that concept into my monument.
Civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. finally got the monument treatment in fall 2011. Many may have been frustrated it took so long to erect but now they are complaining about other things. Many are upset that the work was done by Chinese sculptor Lei Yixin instead of an African-American, or American. A sculptor from a communist country carving a Civil rights activist just didn’t seem right and was very controversial. Many thought the Dr. King’s face looked Asian and he looks confrontational with his arms folded. Despite the complaints, Martin Luther King III liked Lei's work and said, "This particular artist — he's done a good job."
I chose the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial because he plays many roles on ending segregation. I also chose him because he had many dreams and goals at a young, and he stuck to them. From the time that Martin was born, he knew that black people and white people had different rights in certain parts of America. Martin had many different experiences with segregation. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a man who fought for civil rights for all citizens. He was a minister who taught people to be non-violent no matter what the situation Martin had many experiences like he was arrested
Jacob is a student that I have enjoyed having in class and seeing him grow in his writing has been a true reward. When Jacob wrote his first writing sample he stopped writing after about 5 minutes and was stuck on what to write next. I believe that part of it had to do with the fact that we had not talked about too many body systems. For their first writing sample I wanted to get a feel of where they were in regards to wrting. His writing sample consisted of one long sentece with a single period at the end. Jacob also wrote in “I” statements instead of creating his own superhero. This wasn’t surrising since at this grade level they are still accostumed to writing about themselves. He did write about three superheros and their strength, but did not reltate them to any
First of all my cousin, Jacob came over to hangout with Denny,Nick,Lauren, and me sometimes. Jacob was spending the night and my mom asked “Do you want ice cream”? Jacob commented “No I have to lose some weight”, we all chuckled and had fun. But one day it was no giggling matter, Dennis got a call explaining that Jacob was killed in a car crash. He was turning the corner on his moped, with a blink of an eye we lost him.
Session held at the SVABA center. During session, DI and Jacob worked on self-help skills, asking for an adult help when he need it, following one step instructions. Jacob was able to asked for assistance during toileting routine to snap his pants. Jacob was able to finish three worksheets independently. During toileting routine, Jacob was able to follow the steps need it assistance to nap his pants. During a group activity, Jacob had a hard time staid engaged on the activity "gingerbread training". Jacob walk away from the activity to supervisor's room and trying to hit DI. DI re-direct Jacob by giving him a model prompt. Base on observation, a big group activity Jacob gets overwhelmed. DI will try to get Jacob on small group at least one
What this is pictures meaning is, that our lost brothers and sisters will always be remember dead or alive. The Vietnam memorial has over 58,000 lives upon that wall. America to me
The need to memorialize certain events and people is big deal in the United States. Everywhere you travel in the United States you will find a memorial of some kind. Memorials don't have to be just for one individual but for certain events that went down that needed to remembered and the memories should be cherished eternity. Monuments of honor and achievements can be really good while in other cases there can be great sacrifices in monuments. I will further explain how a monument can vary from being good or bad by using the sources provided for me to use.
A monument typically contains much deeper meaning than what first meets the eye, and the Martin Luther King monument is no exception. The monument is symbolic from its the structure itself, to the quotes on it, and down to its street address. King’s legacy and values of justice, equality, and righteousness are presented in various ways throughout his monument.
I think that it is very appropriate that the man who purchased the Louisiana Purchase, and doubled the size of the United States should be on a monument that is within the boundaries of the land he bought. Jefferson knew that to make the great nation that he was the leader of even greater he needed to expand its boundaries. He also is a symbol of exploration that has been carried on throughout the generations of Americans. Jefferson hired Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to follow the Missouri River into the Louisiana Purchase and find out where it started as well as document what landscape, flora, fauna, and people live in the massive tract of land our president had purchased. This ideology of exploration has been carried on through generations of Americans from going into space, landing on the moon and most recently having a satellite pass by the dwarf plant Pluto and on to outside of our solar system. The ideology of develop is also displayed with the choice of displaying President Jefferson through his purchase and exploration of the new land. By doubling the size of our nation, which shows he wanted to develop our nation into not only a bigger country but a more diverse country with many new opportunities for its citizens. President Jefferson’s patriotism is shown through his involvement in writing the Declaration of Independence,
Our story begins in 346 B.C. in a place called Edenia the realm of peace. Edenia was invaded in 347B.C. by the ? ,an evil civilization who wanted to take over all of Edenia so they could build a mighty army and conquer the entire world. Jacob the Great and his mighty army stopped the ? from taking over Edenia...or so he thought. Five years later they tried again this time succeeding in taking over. The ? picked off every last soul who didn’t want to join in the fight in taking over the world. With the remaining survivors the ? gave them one option…to join the mighty empire or be executed. Most people chose the easy way out. When Jacob saw this he
The purpose of monuments are to bring back memories to people that were affected the most. They can either bring people together or drive them away. Depending on their history. For example the area where 9/11 happened that would be an area that would bring strife to people. It would bring americans together but it might not bring “muslims’’ and americans together. They draw out a sense of sadness depending on what the monument mean to everyone else. If it’s a the monument on Capitol Hill it’ll bring out a sense of greatness. If it’s the monument in Japan it’ll bring out
