Personal Statement
I have been practicing piano for 10 years. General sound and organized sound has always found its way of affecting me- not just aurally but also theoretically, physically, and psychology. I had been studying music theory, music history, and composition at Jacksonville State University (JSU) for several years. Of course, with historical approaches to musical styles or studying a historical approaches in general, you notice patterns. You notice patterns of thoughts, techniques, interpolations of ideas, and the resumption of musical transformation. Music is a product of people, their eras, and the contexts in which they lived and worked. You may see how the Roman Catholic church discouraged the use of secular melodies as source

For one, I had three music scholarships that all required extracurricular routine. Another was the fact that with the work of extracurricular routine, there was no room for income. The three scholarships held me over while I devoted my focus to psychology. It was not easy, but I had quite a few revelations that proved essential for realizing which reservation of practice I wanted to focus more on in psychology. A practical resort was to remain at Jacksonville State to study psychology, which had an experimental-oriented …show more content…
This, of course, entails the systematic approach for influencing behavior through environmental variables and noting behavior change techniques that make use of the findings. Essentially, science-based psychology was the initial focus that I had actively applied. Specifically, I was analyzing the “Effect of Temporal Variability of Reinforcement on Behavior” through an assigned pigeon with a standard operant chamber. My analysis also included depictions of “scalloped” behavior in a fixed-interval schedule. Moreover, my analysis evaluated the implications of the variability in timing of a reinforcer has as effect on behavior. Before transferring to West Georgia, I was using this appliance of lab activity as a model intended for a representation of theoretical and practical, concrete applications. Students were encouraged to critically think about what we gathered about behavior and apply it in individual, social and cultural contexts. Doing this helped me ascertain and underline the assumptions I considered but didn't exactly agree with. I soon discovered that doing this allowed me and other students to question the inherent integrity or objectivity of this discourse. In this regard, I knew that I had valued that human behavior must go beyond behavior interpretations. Culture and language involve psychological processes that deal with meaning. Not also focusing on
It is without a doubt, attending Rutgers University brings prestige to your name, and distinguishes you from the competition. With over two hundred and fifty years of rich history, Rutgers has been proudly represented by alumni as they continue into their career paths. Dating back to 1766 when Rutgers was first established, notable Rutgers alumni through the years have ranged from politicians such as Elizabeth Warren or Chris Christie to businessmen like David Stern, or even athletes such as Carli Lloyd. It is without a doubt, that Rutgers provides exceptional education as seen through what these alumni have been able to achieve. It is due to the combination of history and high level of education that I believe will help me achieve my career goals.
I chose NDSU because I feel like I was pretty well acquainted with the campus during my time in high school. Each summer, for FFA, my chapter, along with others from across the state, spent a week here competing in different agricultural competitions. Also, I talked with alumni from this nursing program, and they all said it was set up very well, and also put them on a track to getting a good job afterwards. When I came for a tour earlier this spring, I got to hear a speech from the Dean of nursing, and I just sort of felt like this was the right place. On a side note, I like being here because of the agricultural side of NDSU as well, even if I’m not necessarily going into a field pertaining to it. It seems more like home to me, when the person next to me, going into Vet Tech, rides horse as much as I did.
I am a senior at Ontario High School and am expecting to graduate this May. I was born in Querendaro, Mexico and then moved to Ontario, Oregon. While in high school I have already obtained a few college credits at a reduced price, but even though I obtained them at a reduced price it was still challenging to pay for them. In my house, there is my two parents, my two sisters and myself, all living with one parent household income and some help. I also had the advantage to complete the Certified Nursing Program as a high school student through the Allied Health. Since I got the opportunity to obtain these college credits and complete the CNA program while in high school, I took the fullest advantage.
Who we are is a concoction of our life journey, relationships, tastes, goals, and countless other things. I am a family girl from Mexico who is a first generation college student. My family is the greatest part of who I am. They would give and do anything for me and vice versa. Life has brought me to the construction science program at Texas A&M and I could not be more excited to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!
The transition from being a child, dependent upon parents for everything, to an independent adult is one of the most stressful times a person will endure. Legally speaking, 18 is the age when you become an adult but the number doesn’t describe the responsibilities and independence you must take on. College is seen as the “big step” into the real world and many people struggle in choosing where to make their transition. I would like to take my “big step” by attending Florida Atlantic University.
The University of Mississippi is a second home to me, but also a place that continually challenges me on a daily basis to be better, to think outside of normal constraints, and to become a more effective leader. Serving Ole Miss as a student, and eventually as alumni, is so rewarding.
It was dark and there were so many noises around me as I slowly woke up and recalled I was in a hospital with abdominal pain. I then heard a familiar voice say “Sweetie, wake up! Wake up!” I opened my eyes to a blurry image of my mother. “Shhh… don't make any noises. We're leaving now. Just act like you are fine. We'll try to sneak out before anyone notices”, my mother said. She explained later that she could not afford to pay hospital bills, so we had to leave before any physician checked over. Living in Vietnam, I was filled with resentment towards their healthcare system, as people were rejected treatment and left to perish in the streets. As a child, I therefore never considered medicine as a career. My spark for medicine was unforeseen until I went on a high school field trip at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Virginia. Hovering over the glass ceiling of the operating theater, I watched doctors performing coronary bypass surgery while witnessing the heart beat stronger and stronger. At this magical moment, I was overwhelmed by the power of medicine to save people’s lives.
Going to college will be a massive step in my life, even graduating from high school. First off, I plan to major in Accounting and become a Public Certified Accountant. I have been told that it will be hard, just going to class will not cut it. You have to be on top of schoolwork making sure you have it turned in on time and more. I chose K-State University because I could see my future there on campus getting through it all. I thought K-State had the best Business program and so much more. Looking at other colleges wasn’t a bad choice but I couldn’t see myself on their campus as much as I did with K-State. Second, I want to get involved in groups that would be good for me. I do not know all the kinds of groups are on campus but I’m sure I will find out. I hope to start off with
My story is neither the most adventurous nor the most interesting. I grew up in an environment, where opportunities were almost non-existent; I quickly got exposed to the rigors and challenges of life at a very tender age. At age seven, I was already selling household items with my older brother (Bidemi) in a big African market as a way of contributing to the family upkeep. He actually taught me how to persuade people to always buy from me which I found very helpful. Before long, I had become so motivated to succeed in endeavor, especially my academics. I was among the top five in my school at the time and was also made the time prefect for the whole school due to my discipline, regularity and punctuality.
I am applying to the Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine because of its great student to faculty ratio, the approach to pathology as a primary learning experience, their outreach in the community, and also because of its focus on providing students with excellent research experiences, such as the summer research stipend projects. The student to faculty ratio is important to me because that means I will have those extra minutes to speak with professors, which will pay off tenfold for exams. Not only does that mean that I will be able to start more discussions with them, but I will also be able to ask more questions. I picture myself attending a medical school where the professors are so passionate about medicine that their
In my last two years of high school, I worked part time at Kroger. After one month of working as a cashier, my manager recognized my leadership and quick learning abilities and promoted me to customer service. From there, I took on more responsibilities and received another promotion to manager of all of the front end operations of the store. I also took a course to become a pharmacy technician and interned at a Walgreens pharmacy for a semester.
I have known for a long time that Baylor is where I belong. While I have repeatedly seen the Lord open doors for me to be able to attend my dream school, I never would have expected to receive the opportunity to attend an event like Invitation to Excellence. Not only was the event a chance to improve my financial situation, but it showcased Baylor University’s personality and important aspects of patient care. Invitation to Excellence provided insights into the healthcare profession, interpersonal experiences, friendships, opportunities, and chances to think critically.
My desire to help others has always been the fuel that has driven me throughout my personal and educational journey. I always knew that I wanted to work in a hospital setting helping children and families, but I wasn’t sure of what path I would take to accomplish this goal. I had never heard of a Child Life Specialist, but once I found out what they did, I knew that I had finally found the career path for me. My next step was to find a program that would give me the education and skills to pursue my passion, which led me here to NSU’s master’s degree in Developmental Studies with a Child Life Specialist concentration. There is no doubt that NSU’s program is the best fit for me. This program will not only afford me the opportunity of realizing
Out of all of the skin care products in the world, your bathroom cabinet needs to be filled with products researched and designed by me. When I entered high school, I discovered my passion for selecting lip sticks, lip glosses, lotions, perfumes, and makeup foundations. You name it. After learning about the connections between the information in my chemistry class and these items, a light bulb went off! I maintained an A average in chemistry throughout the whole year! Additionally, in 2014, I became a student in the Academy of Engineering and Technology, which also heightened my interests in chemistry. In a science fair at that academy, there was a chemistry course where we made colorful slime, and during that process, I learned that I get an adrenaline rush when I am mixing different chemicals together to see what the outcome is. Majoring in chemistry at Norfolk State University will definitely prepare me for a very successful future in chemistry! My ultimate goal is to conduct research and development for chemical cosmetics. I plan to obtain employment at the greatest companies in the world such as L'Oréal and Avon.
I did not realize I wanted to be a physician until three years ago. Once this realization occurred, I worked very hard to overcome the shortcomings in my undergraduate studies. I have maintained a job in order to pay for undergraduate and graduate coursework. This has forced me to enhance my time management and multi-tasking skills, which in turn have allowed me to be exposed to countless experiences and activities.
