One man changed the world of sports by becoming the first ever African American to ever play a professional sport as an African-American. Jackie Robinson affected the sporting world and it would not be the way it is today but it wasn't easy for him. Jackie Robinson started going to school young. He started to go to school at age three with his sister. His sister’s teachers were not happy that his sister brought him so he had to sit outside of the classroom during school. When he became a high schooler, he loved sports. He started playing sports as a young child but wasn’t very good at them. He wasn’t very strong in his early school career. Jackie played sports but he wasn’t very good at them until he decided to attend UCLA in 1939. He played baseball, football, track, and basketball. He played football seriously until he found the love for baseball. Jackie started to play baseball and it took him no time to be really good at the college level. He was noticed nationally by scouts. Branch Rickey, the general manager for the Brooklyn Dodgers, noticed him and was very serious about him. In 1945, Jackie went to play spring league for the Kansas City Monarchs. Spring league went awesome and teams wanted him but were nervous because of his color. From college to the league, it didn’t take Jackie long to be a legend. Getting to where Jackie is today, it wasn’t easy. Through Jackie’s life, he’s had to learn to block out all the things people wanted to say to him. He’s been arrested three times in his life. While he was in his younger days, he didn’t always make the right decisions, he was a part of gangs and bad friends. Jackie made a bad decision by jumping into the cities reservoir. He went to jail but because of sports he got released. He was on bond for two year and it wasn’t going to be good if he got in trouble during those two years. He battled racist people and sometimes he couldn’t hold back. Two times he was arrested because the people were white and hated blacks. He went to jail twice but neither times were they his fault. These weren’t the only obstacles he faced. As a very young kid, Jackie’s father disappeared. Mallie, Jackie’s mom, thinks he was killed somehow. Jackie was to young to understand but things were a lot harder. Once jackie was a parent, he loved it. But on July 10, 1939, his son Jack was killed in a car accident. Things were tough for Jackie and the family. Things went downhill in Jackie’s career. Jackie had a lot of personal and family issues. Jackie had to go through everything to get to where he
