To me, a hero is someone you can look up to; someone whom you can admire for their qualities and the obstacles they have overcome. “Fifty years ago, Jackie Roosevelt Robinson became the first black player to play in a Major League baseball game. Jackie was a fearless person and fought until the end and made a big history.”"Jackie Robinson: The Story of an American Hero." HubPages. HubPages, 14 Sept. 2014. Web. 9 May 2016. Everyone respects him a lot and he was a brave man to keep on playing baseball. Though people think Jackie Robinson is not a hero, but others do because he did lots of amazing things that led other black people to play any sport they wanted.
“Jackie Roosevelt Robinson, the grandson of a slave, was born in a cabin in Cairo,
To the average person, in the average American community, Jackie Robinson was just what the sports pages said he was, no more, no less. He was the first Negro to play baseball in the major leagues. Everybody knew that, but to see the real Jackie Robinson, you must de-emphasize him as a ball player and emphasize him as a civil rights leader. That part drops out, that which people forget. From his early army days, until well after his baseball days, Robinson had fought to achieve equality among whites and blacks. "Jackie acted out the philosophy of nonviolence of Martin Luther King Jr., before the future civil rights leader had thought of applying it to the problem of segregation in America"(Weidhorn 93). Robinson was an avid

Baseball has always been America’s national pastime. In the early and all the way into the mid 50’s, baseball was America and America was baseball. The only thing lacking in the great game was the absence of African American players and the presence of an all white sport. America still wasn’t friendly or accepted the African American race and many still held great prejudice towards them. All this would change when the general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, Branch Rickey decided he was going to sign a Negro player. Jackie Robinson was that player and Jackie Robinson changed the game, America, and history. By looking specifically at his childhood adversity, college life and the hardships he encountered by becoming the first black player
Jackie Robinson had to deal with overwhelming racism. He handled the racist slurs thrown at him by being gentlemen and playing ball. Robinson risked his life being black in an all-white baseball league. He had it fine in California, but decided to risk his life to show the world what he could do. He became a role model for others like him to be somebody.
Throughout his professional career, Jackie Robinson, received criticism for being the first “black” player to play the game. Not only did Jackie Robinson manage to live up to the criticism, he also changed the face of America’s greatest past time forever. With his entrance into the MLB he opened the path for great black players like Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays, and Ozzie Smith just to name a few. In crossing the color-barrier in baseball Robinson not only strived as a great player on the field, but also a inspiration to the black community of the field with his humility, and willingness to move forward in a time where blacks were not considered “equal”.
A hero is someone who is always thinking about the wellbeing of others before themselves. A hero is someone who inspires and makes a positive difference in the world. Heroes never give up on themselves or on other people. Heroes are very courageous and strive to do the right thing. Jesse Owens was a hero because he was selfless and did everything for the gains of others, of his courage to always stand his ground, his dedication which lead him to never give up, the respect he showed and had for and from others, and his passion that inspired America.
A hero is someone who is known for their courage and kindness. Atticus is a hero to me since he stands up for the african americans and teaches lessons of kindness. My parents and my teachers are heroes to me because they have showed me kindness and taught me lessons. To me, that is what a hero should be.

What is a hero? A hero is someone who is brave, noble, a good leader, intelligent, strong, selfless, and inspires others. While some hero’s actions transcend time and will never be forgotten, other hero’s actions are in the moment and will not stand the test of time. “Only a few stand illuminated characters never to be efface.” (Longfellow) The man who saves the dog from the burning house will be in today’s news, but the man who helped abolish slavery, Abraham Lincoln, will be remembered for many generations to come.
The dictionary definition of a hero is someone who is admired of their achievements or their noble qualities. To me, the definition of a hero is someone who helps people and is caring. In this world there are so many people mistaken for heroes. One example of a “hero” is O.J. Simpson. O.J was best known for being the running back of the Buffalo Bills and was nicknamed “The Juice”. Although he was a Heisman Trophy winner he was also a major suspect of a murder case involving his wife and her new boyfriend. Even though all the evidence was there he was found innocent and never went to jail. OJ Simpson was an amazing football player, but he should be judged by everything he does not just his achievements. One person I think is a hero in all
