Globalization is the process by which businesses or other organizations develop international influence or start operating on an international scale. According to economic and political writer Doug Bandow, “Some critics of globalization have contended that the process has helped the rich and hurt the poor. However, the best research indicates that this is accurate: ‘Poverty is falling rapidly in those poor countries that are integrating into the global economy.”. In both documentaries “The True Cost” and “Living on One Dollar” we can see how companies exploit their employees for consumer benefit, as well as the social and economic inequalities that are attached with globalization.

In Alison Bechdel’s graphic memoir Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic, we learn about Bechdel’s parents, Helen and Bruce, and their role in her early life. Specifically, Bechdel constructs a narrative around her father’s death, allegedly a suicide. Young Bechdel lives in Pennsylvania with her parents and her two brothers. Her parents had been living in Europe, where they met, but Bruce was forced to come home after his father’s death to take over the family business – a funeral home (which the children often call the “fun home”). Alison’s father meticulously decorates and improves their old Gothic revival home.

Where did Isis come from? Isis came from Egypt and was one of the most important goddess’ of ancient Egypt. Her name is the Greek form of an ancient Egyptian word for “throne.”

Isis Cult in Egypt and Rome The worship of Isis originated in Egypt where she held various positions and roles extending from myth describing her as sister, and wife of Osiris. These involved being mother and protector of her son Horus, symbolic mother of the king, goddess of “cosmic associations”, “great of magic”, and mourner, maintainer, and protector of the deceased (Wilkinson 2003, pp. 146-149). Knowledge of Isis spread through the contact of sailors, merchants, and soldiers (Wortham 2006, p.104), directly impacting Roman religious tradition.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, most commonly referred to as ISIS or ISIL , is a group formed as a political, religious and military leader over all Muslims around the world. While having one leader, the organization aims to unite all Muslims under a single person. While many followers of ISIS accept the single leader and the violent practices, others have opposing viewpoints. Despite the fact that Islam is an Arabic word which directly translates into the English word of peace, ISIS is being held responsible for many of the human rights violations as well as war crimes that take place in the middle east and around the rest of the world. The United Nations along with the European Union have officially claimed ISIS and the followers a terrorist group. With such a continuously growing hype of ISIS around the world, what effect does it have on the young seventeen year old Muslim girl who just wants to live a peaceful life?

Insurgent by Veronica Roth is a thrilling novel in a four book series. The book Insurgent was created to entertain young adults. Exploring the theme of perseverance, the author, Veronica Roth, uses strong images to create a thought provoking and engaging story of a young woman named Beatrice “Tris” Prior that uses her power of being divergent to help save the people she loves from power hungry tyrants. Due to the power hungry tyrants, Tris has killed her friend because he was controlled and would have killed her.

After the Paris attacks men and women around the world are preparing for the start of a war. A war that will take them far from home, and could end their lives, all because of one group called ISIS. ISIS began as a group to persecute their fellow Muslims, and have since expanded their reach. Now ISIS has attacked innocent citizens of Paris. This proves that it does not matter your race, age, or faith no one is safe. The President of Paris has declared this ‘an act of war’ (Cohen). This declaration of war, allows the President of Paris to use the NATO treaty. In this treaty, if there is an attack against one country, it is against them all (Cohen). In this case Cohen is stating that North America must get involved in the ISIS situation. There is no time for words. There is only time for action. Cohen argues that there is too much at stake for everyone to sit back and wait for the opportune moment. It is time to fight. He is arguing that it is time for the United States to station troops and rid the world of ISIS.

The government needs to do more to protect the United States from terrorist groups such as ISIS. Our government does not realize how bad this world can come to, if we do not start fighting back. ISIS has killed innocent people, destroyed our buildings, and they use our tools and weapons against us. Special agencies need to keep more of their plans secretive, by not leaking any information that should be kept private. Being the next president, I hope that you can try to resolve these problems, make our country a better place, and protect us from any violent acts.

Throughout my high school years, I have worked on perfecting my art skills so that I can be a graphic designer or an illustrator for video game companies. I express my feelings and myself through my artwork by choosing the colors that describes my emotions during the present moment. I strive to enhance my art skills, cooking skills, and helping others when they are going through difficult times or just lending a helping hand. Each day I get inspired to try out new things and being open minded.
